Characteristics

• Thicket forming shrubs or small trees• Small oval leaves, dark green• Glands on petiole• Serrated leaves• Spur shoots grab clothes and skin• Small dark red or purple fruit• White flowers form round clusters• Silhouette similar to chokecherry, mahogany,

serviceberry

Ecology

• Found in Southern Oregon and Northern California, especially in Klamath and Lake counties

• Widespread in our area in canyons, roadsides, hills, and forests

• Forms dense thickets• Great browse and habitat for deer and elk• Plums eaten by birds and variety of mammals

including raccoons and bears• Plums make excellent jam
