KK's FACEBOOK for my FRIENDS class

RSVP & ADDRESS OMG…I’m already feeling overwhelmed I hope that’s not how you’re feeling. Here’s the deal … I’ve never taught a facebook class before and chances are you’ve never taken one. So this is a new adventure for all of us. I’ve set aside 3 hours on Mon. Sept 28 th from 9-12 to cover all the basics you’ll need to get started and actively using Facebook. I’m hopeful that we can get through most of the key material in that time. It would be extremely helpful if you could bring a laptop to the class, as we’ll be doing hands on learning, but don’t stress if you can’t. You can share with a friend or just watch on the big screen. I am taking up a love offering with all the proceeds going to First Friday, so if you are able to pay, the cost is $30, but please don’t let this stop you from coming, it’s totally optional! Like any other program or new thing you learn, the key to Facebook is active use and exploration. My goal is to get you started and comfortable so that you’ll go home and continue to play around with it. Then in about a month, I’ll offer a 2 nd update refresher Q&A class. Monday, September 28 th , 2009 9:00 am-12:00 pm A facebook party? Are you kidding me? Is that what you thought when you read my email or saw my facebook status? Pretty silly…. Or is it? Facebook has more than 300 million active users of which 50% log on to Facebook each day. The fastest growing demographic is those 35 years of age and older. Isn’t it about time you became part of the most popular and fastest growing social network in the world? You must DO THIS before you come to class!

1. Have a facebook login created. Go to

www.facebook.com and create your username and password.

2. Make sure your system is up to date. For MAC users go to the apple in the top left corner and click.

Go down to software update and click on it. Then click on install. For WINDOWS users, click start…

then click control panel… then click system… then click automatic updates… then click automatic and

click apply at the bottom of that windows. Now click ok. At some point you will be prompted to install

updates if your system is out of date.

3. WINDOWS users only, download a free photo

sharing application called picasa. Go to www.picasa.google.com and click download Picasa.

Check to make sure you don’t see a line at the topic saying internet explorer is blocking this window. If

you do see this, click on it and then click again to download the file. Don’t worry about installing it,

we’ll do that in class. For MAC users, we’ll be using iphoto, which comes on your mac.
