Kiss Army Argentina exclusive interview with Matt Starr: “The songs we have been working on are fantastic and Ace sounds better than ever”

KISS Army Argentina: Hi again, Matt. Thanks for this new interview with KISS Army Argentina. This time we would like you to tell us about your musical projects, which are varied and very interesting. The most interesting one seems to be the project with Burning Rain, as the band has recently released an album. Could you please tell us about this project, in which you work with Doug Aldrich from Whitesnake? According to what we saw on the internet, it is clearly a hard rock band, with obvious influences of Whitesnakeand a singer who reminds us of Robert Plant in his best times.

Matt Starr: It's great to talk with you guys again. Burning Rain is a band with Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, DIO), Keith St John (Montrose) & Sean McNabb (Dokken, Quiet Riot) &myself. I was

asked to join last year after we all played a benefit show together & it sounded great. The record was released in the U.S. & worldwide in May 2013. We are planning to tour later this year so stay tuned!

KISS Army Argentina: Could we say that Burning Rain is currently your most important personal project? What are your expectations regarding the future of the band?

Matt Starr: All the artists I play with are important to me. But being Ace's drummer is my priority. Although in the past year I've been fortunate to have enough time to work with different bands & artists. The BR project is super cool & we're just getting started. There's lots of cool stuff to come.

KISS Army Argentina: You also are part of Love/Hate, a band fronted by Jizzy Pearl; you have worked with them quite a lot this year, with dates in the United States plus an England tour. Please tell us how you joined Love/Hate, which are your plans for the future and what the England tour was like.

Matt Starr: Love/Hate will always be Jizzy, Skid, Jon & Joey, the original 4 guys.ButJizzy asked me to being the touring drummer for their up coming dates& I was more than happy to do it. We have more shows coming up this year. The UK tour was a blast, lots of Guinness and good times. The band sounded great & they have lots of great fans in the UK. We just played a festival in the U.S. called M3. We have another UK tour in March 2014 & The Monsters Of Rock Cruise after that.

KISS Army Argentina: Apart from these two bands, we see in your Facebook page that you are also performing with Dizzy Reed and other musicians, like for instance, the recent date in the Rainbow Bar, in which you joined Faster Pussycat. We could say that these are more a kind of secondary projects that you do for fun, rather than main projects, like Burning Rain, which is sort of an already settled band, as you have already released an album and you also have a record label that supports you with the publicity.

Matt Starr: I didn't actually play with Faster Pussycat, it just so happened that their banner was up behind us when we played. We did a gig with Jon E Love & some other friends to celebrate the Rainbow's anniversary. Hooker n Blow with Dizzy from GnR started back in 2004 when Dizzy played on the Beautiful Creatures release of "Deuce". Me& Alex Grossi started talking with Diz about putting something together where we could go out & play a bunch of classic tunes & have fun. That's what we did & there have been lots of different members since & it's great to be playing with them again.

KISS Army Argentina: Let’s talk about your activities with Ace Frehley. It seems that this year the Spaceman is not doing much. What can you tell us about that? Will there be any dates in the United States, or maybe a tour beyond American lands? Because we are sure that many Ace fans are expecting to see him in Europe, and in South America as well, especially in Argentina!

Matt Starr: The focus has been doing a new record & there's a lot of business that goes along with that, that I am not involved in. But there will be new music soon and once that is out there will of course be tour dates to follow. But as to when & where we'll have to wait & see.

KISS Army Argentina: Not so long ago you told us about the plans for the album that would follow Anomaly; is there any news on that?

Matt Starr: As far as the specific direction, you'll have to talk to Ace about that, but the songs we have been working on are fantastic & Ace sounds better than ever.
