Path to Net-Zero™

Path to NetZero™ is a unique tool for thebuilding industry that will simulate theprocess of achieving high performanceand net-zero energy buildings. Expertsreport on modeling results that evaluateenergy savings and the impact of usinginsulated metal panels (IMPs). This toolis accessible through interactive mobileapplications available on the web as wellas via free apps for the iPad, iPhone,iPod Touch and Android mobile devices.

To evaluate the impact of highperformance IMP wall and roofsystems on building efficiency,Kingspan commissioned a studyby the Architectural EnergyCorporation that simulated threebuildings – school, office andwarehouse – in four locations.

Energy Cost SavingsKingZip’s thermal performance of highR-value, superior airtightness and lowthermal bridging can result in energysavings of as much as 30% overstandard cavity-based insulationsystems.

Performance Benefits

The IMP buildings were comparedagainst EIFS, split-faced block, tilt-upand single skin with batt insulation. Results indicated that continuousinsulation with high effective R-valueand superior airtightness achievedsignificant energy savings, followed byrenewables, such as PV systems andenergy conservation measures. This demonstrates the importance ofEnvelopeFirst™, a high performancebuilding envelope design strategy.

Superior Airtightnessand WeathertightnessOne of the biggest sources of buildingheat loss (or heat gain) is due to airleakage i.e. – ‘leaky buildings’.KingZip™ panels are rigorously testedto ensure that they remain both airand weathertight over the life of thebuilding.

The standing seam design along withthe hidden fastener clip assemblyallows KingZip™ to be utilized on lowslope applications (as low as ¼:12).

The standing seam joint ismechanically seamed using theKingZip™ Power Seamer

Kingspan offers an optionalManufacturers Weathertight Warrantyprogram for KingZip™. ContactKingspan for more details.

High R-ValueKingZip’s insulating core providessuperior thermal performancewith tested R-values of up to 48.In addition, the panel assemblyfeatures a unique thermally brokenhidden clip system that helps preventheat loss and condensation.

Most importantly, the insulation isexterior of the building structure. This feature provides the bestpossible thermal envelope byreducing thermal bridging typical ofcavity insulation systems. In addition, the panels feature excellent foam-to-foam contact, which provides anunbroken thermal shield against heattransfer.

KingZip™ is tested to ASTM C1363,and the tested configuration is typicalof actual in-place construction andperformance.

Carbon EmissionReduction KingZip™ is a superior thermal andairtight system that reduces a building’soperational energy demands (primarilyheating and cooling), and as a result, it’scarbon footprint.

Performance Benefits

Faster BuildKingZip’s one step installation canreduce on-site installation time byup to 50% compared to traditionalmulti-part roof systems. KingZip™

insulated panels provide the exteriorweather barrier, high efficiency insulationcore and an integral vapor barrier. This reduces multiple labor stepsrequired with other roof systems downto a single operation.

KingZip™ is available in 42” cover widthand lengths of up to 48’ making it easierto handle and position, while increasinginstallation productivity. KingZip™ panelsare mechanically seamed using a PowerSeamer.

Kingspan’s singlecomponent systems

can increasespeed of build by

up to 50%

KingZip™ insulated standing seam roof system offers design flexibilityand aesthetics combined with high R-values and unparalleled service lifethermal performance – all ‘built-in’ to a single off-site, factory assembledinsulated panel. KingZip™ is also available with integrated solar PV options.

AccessoriesTo complete the KingZip™ system afull range of integrated accessoriesincluding rooflights*, curb units*,fastening clips, gutters, architecturalfeature trims, and flashings are available.

KingZip™ is easily adaptable toaccommodate safety and fallarrest systems.

* These solutions are project specific. Please contact Kingspan.

Hand CrimperThis tool incorporates an over-bendfeature to roll the top standing seam to aperpendicular orientation. The hand toolis also used to seam the panels at theend of the run for a distance ofapproximately 12” in order to be able tostart the electric seaming tool.

Electric SeamerThe Power Seamer mechanicallyroll forms the seam of each KingZip™

panel to the adjacent panel. The toolfeatures a lightened shaved gear train, hollowed shafts, and dual directionseaming capability. The seamer isavailable for rent or purchase.

KingZip’s vertical side seam and integralbatten provide an attractive linear accentto any roofing application. In addition, the strong one piece flat pan design ofthe panel is ideal for complicated roofgeometries such as hips and valleys, does not require the use ofunderlayments, and may be applieddirectly over open purlins or decking.

A wide range of color and finish optionsare available to enhance the aestheticappeal of the roof. Energy Star® andCool Roof® (CRRC) ratings are availablefor many Kingspan standard colors –contact Kingspan for more information.

A full range of accessories are availableto complete the KingZip™ system. The standing seam concept allows thesystem to be utilized on low roof slopeswith cover widths of 42”.

KingZip™ Finish Options

KingZip™ is available with high-performance, sustainable rooffinishes, including solar reflective Cool Roof® rated options that canreduce peak cooling energy demand by up to 15%. Cool Roof®

rated solutions comply with codes and green building programs. When applied these finishes can contribute to several LEED® credits.

These Cool Roof® coatings are intended to reduce heat islands(thermal gradient differences between developed and undeveloped areas)to minimize impact on microclimates and human and wildlife habitat.

As required by LEED® credit 7.2, Sustainable Sites – Heat Island Effect –Roof, the cool color palette for KingZip™ is Energy Star® compliant, specifying highly reflective and high-emissivity roofing (emissivity of atleast 0.9 when tested in accordance with ASTM E408) for a minimum of75% of the roof surface.

Energy Star® qualified roof systems can reduce the amount of airconditioning required in buildings and can reduce energy bills by up to50%, translating into dollar savings and reducing impact on theenvironment.
