Editorial

The idea of a e-magazine has been with me for some time and I amhoping that it will be a success. There will be about 4 magazines ayear, this will depend on you to some extent as I would like yourstories about you, & your Cavalcade. Stories of your rides , funnystories, rebuilds, any information on maintenance, etc. I would alsolike pictures with the stories or just pictures of you, your family &your Cavalcade(s).

There will be a section for free advertising of Cavalcades, parts andextras that you might want to sell, buy or exchange.

Just email me the information and I will put them in the magazine.

I will send out a reminder of the publishing date about 2 monthsbefore. This will give a month for people to send me their stories, etc. And a moth for me to edit and put the magazine together.

The magazine will of course be free of charge. It will consist of afront cover with photos (if I receive some), then a small editorial, followed by your articles and adverts with items for sale wanted.

This e magazine will go to the USA and Europe first and if I receivethe email addresses from other countries, they will be added. Forthe USA I will be posting it to Cavalcade_USA as that will reach all1700 Cade owners worldwide. It will also be posted on WindowsLive for a download eventually.

Dave.

Let’s see if we can get more than 31 Cavalcades to that event.

There are two USA Cade Raids next year, on the East & Westcoasts.

East Coast Cade Raid. There is no official location for theEast Coast Raid. Some have suggested it be held inSusquehanna Valley of Pennsylvania, possibly from 12th

Me And MYCavalcade.

87 LXE

This is my 1987 GV1400LXE. It sure is a beautiful motorcycle. Ido think that a motorcycle looks better in Black with all thechrome trim, just my opinion and not to everyone’s taste. That’sthe great thing about motorcyclist, we all have our own ideas as towhat a motorcycle should look like.

I purchased this Cavalcade in May 2009 for the sum of £1500, about$2250. The bike had just over 29000 miles on the clock, and becausein the UK a bike has to have a road worthy test every year after it is 3years old, an MOT, then the mileage is recorder ed and so it is a prettyaccurate way of checking the mileage.

The Cade had a small leak from around the drive shaft boot and Iassumed that the secondary seal had gone. It also had been downheavily on the left hand side, with damage to the mirror, mirror frameand scraped the top fairing slightly and damaged the engine bars. Notbeing a mechanic, all fingers and thumbs, has we say in the UK, I askeda very good friend if he could do the necessary. Enter Tony to do thehard bit and repair the Cavalcade. Little did I know what needed to bedone. Far from being just a replace the secondary seal, it turned into anear complete rebuild except for the engine, carbs and frame.

When Tony started taking the plastics off of the Cavalcade , he foundthat there was rust everywhere; the tank, swing arm and main stand. The mirrors were secured to the frame with home made brackets andthe mirror arm was very bent.

As can be seen from the photos there was an awful lot of work to be done on TheCade to make it totally safe to ride.

Other problems that came to light were, the rear tyre, although the correct size itwas a Dunlop 404 and would not carry the weight of the Cade so that waschanged to the Metzler 880, the best tyre for the Cade.

The rear brake discs fitted were for the 86 model so had to be changed to the FA150.

Here’s a list of the repair work carried out.

Investigate oil leak from rear of secondary gear case.

Replace secondary gear case seals, O rings and gasket

Replace secondary gear plug with upgrade ‘Tracy’ Plug.

Clutch slave cylinder, clutch push rod seal, gear change shaft seal.
