www.kinetonprimaryschool.org.uk 6 th November 2020 Dear all, Welcome back to the second half of the autumn term. I hope you all had a good break; the children have certainly returned to school recharged and full of enthusiasm! Children in Need Unfortunately we will be unable to hold our usual cake sale next Friday. However to raise funds for Children in Need, the children are invited to come to school next Friday in non uniform (with a Children in Need theme if you wish, but not essential), in exchange for a £1 donation. Payment can be made via ParentPay. 11+ Good luck to our Year 6 pupils who are sitting the 11+ test this weekend. Gilkss colouring competition It was fantastic to see lots of children participated in the recent competition. It would appear we have some amazing artists amongst us! We raised a grand total of £78 which will go towards learning resources in school. Well done to the following KPS winners: Y2 - Olivia Y4 - Chloe Y5 - Liam Birthday celebrations We have had a lovely idea shared with us from another school which we are going to introduce for the rest of this academic year here at Kineton Primary. Due to current restrictions, we are aware that many children are currently unable to celebrate their birthday with family and friends as they normally would. We would therefore like to give them the opportunity to celebrate their birthday in school with their class mates. Therefore on the last Friday of each month, children who have had a birthday that month will help to choose a fun, COVID-safe activity for their class that afternoon. The first celebration will be held this afternoon to celebrate the birthdays that have already happened this term, with the next one being held at the end of November. Parent communication reminder Any messages for staff should continue to be sent via the admin email address [email protected] and marked for the attention of the relevant staff member. However, if you have a question relating to a specific activity set on Google Classroom then you may use this as a channel of communication but for the activity set only. Kineton Christmas Tree Trail We are very much looking forward to seeing Kineton transformed into a winter wonderland as the annual Christmas tree trail starts at the beginning of December. The final deadline to order your tree is next week - Tuesday 10th November at 5pm. Don't delay! Drop your form and payment in cash into Flower Thyme. A 5-5.5ft Spruce tree without stand costs £16 or including a wooden base support is £20. The theme is 'heroes and Heroines'. Enquires can be made to [email protected]. Kineton Primary School will be benefitting from any monies raised which will be used to support the installation of new interactive whiteboards in school. We are hoping, restrictions willing, that we will be able to sell maps and hot drinks to help you on your way around the trail.

With Black Friday coming up, we would love you to choose Friends of Kineton Primary School as your nominated charity. There is no cost to you, just go to smile.amazon.co.uk to choose your charity. So far we have 39 customers supporting our charity - can you help us make that 100? Have a lovely weekend.

Firework-free fun for the family this NovemberWe could all do with a bit of magic this year. But with organised displays cancelled due to the restrictions, you may be asking yourself: ‘Is fireworks night cancelled this year?’ Do not fear, there are ways to make it good fun, bring the family together and make lovely memories, no fireworks required!

Celebrations without the risk F Bring back some of the foody delights from your childhood – toffee apples, honeycomb, Parkin cake to name but a few. You could dip breadsticks in melted chocolate and sprinkles for your own edible fireworks. Get the BBQ out for hot dogs and marshmallows, rinsed down with hot chocolate. And don’t forget the jacket potatoes in tin foil!

F Why not go old school with apple bobbing? One of the oldest Bonfire Night traditions and it couldn’t be simpler to do. Just fill a basin with water and throw in some apples. Then grab an apple out with just your teeth (leave the stalks on to make it a bit easier for the littlies). Get the kids to ask grandparents what games they used to play and bring them back to life with your family.

F Put the Guy back into Guy Fawkes Night – you might not be burning him on a massive bonfire, but you can have fun with the kids making your own Guy with old clothes and stuffing him with paper. Tell them the Guy Fawkes story as you stuff!

F Get creative with the littlies – splashes of paint on black paper make a beautiful fireworks display. Or paint toilet roll tubes and use orange or yellow tissue paper for the rocket.

F If sparklers are part of your staple, it’s best to wear gloves and have a bucket of water handy for spent sparklers, so no-one is tempted to pick up a used one. Children under five are too young to handle sparklers themselves.

F When everyone gets too cold or too tired, cuddle up on the sofa, turn off the lights and watch fireworks displays on TV – you can find loads on YouTube.

This article was created by the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) - find more fireworks night information on their website.

Fireworks can be unpredictable, which means putting on your own display can put your family at risk. If you are still planning on setting off fireworks, please read the advice on firework safety and what to do if someone is burnt.

  • Anti-Bullying WeekAnti-bullying Week takes place 16th-20th November, with a theme of United Against Bullying. Stress Awareness DayStress Awareness Day is coming up on the 4th November, and with everything that’s going on, it’s as important as ever to take some time to focus on our wellbeing. Talking to children and young people about stress and helping them recognise and deal with the symptoms is key to building their resilience. Why not start the conversation by talking about times you’ve both felt stressed and how this made your body feel, then try some relaxing breathing techniques together? We’ve also compiled some wellbeing activities for all ages:

    Wellbeing Bingo game

    Stress Busting Fortune Teller

    Mindful Colouring Exercise

Emotional and mental healthLots of children and young people may struggle with their mental health at some point.
