KIN for Dummies Confused Kirkwood Instructors, Version 2.0

Below is some pertinent and (hopefully) easy-to-follow information for using the Kirkwood Information Network. Use it wisely, grasshoppers. Contact Jessica Haight-Angelo ([email protected]) with suggestions, criticism and/or requests.

Logging into KIN from Kirkwood:

When prompted, enter the following information (customized for yourself, of course):o User Name: k0000000@kirkwood

o Password: your password

You do not need to add “.edu” or anything to the end of “@kirkwood.” It is not a functional e-mail address, merely an indication that you are logging in to the network while physically “at Kirkwood.”

Logging into KIN from Home:

Type in the following address: https://kin.kirkwood.edu/ (remember the “s” at the end of “http!”).

Login using your k-number and your password. Since you are not at Kirkwood, you do not need to add “@kirkwood” after the user name here.

Ways that KIN Makes Your Life Easier (Really!):

You can check your Kirkwood e-mail from it. In fact, you can have it set-up to log you in as soon as you access your KIN homepage. To do this, click on the “Enter Your Credentials” link on the mid-left-hand side of the KIN homepage. When prompted, enter the following information, customized with your k-number and such:

o User Name: kirkwood\k0000000 (remember to use a forward slash [\] rather than

a backward slash [/]!)o Password: your password

You can access your weekly schedule! Once you access your KIN homepage, there will be a blue box called “My Week.” If you hover over the apple icons for each class, it will tell you where it is located. In addition, you can move ahead to future weeks, as well as go back.

You can access your Eaglenet information from KIN. In the upper-right-hand corner, you will see a collection of tabs: “Faculty Portal,” “Applications,” “Employee Information,” and “kirkwood.edu” (yes, that is a link to the college Web site right from KIN!). Click on “Applications,” and you will see a list of options in a blue drop-down list. If you want to access your class roster (now with an images option!) and grading, for example, simply click on “Faculty Information.”

The “Applications” tab will also bring you to a list of commonly-used Web sites by faculty in the center of the page. You will still have to log-in to them separately, but think of this section as a bookmarks page. For example, if you need to access ANGEL, click on the “eLearning” icon (currently the third one down), and a new window will automatically open.

Wanna get a copy of your Pay Advices or My Stipends? Go to “Applications,” and click the “Employee Self-Service” link. Voila! (Also, notice how you can use the links at the top of the page [“breadcrumbs”] to navigate back and forth without clicking the “back” button on your browser. Genius!)

On the KIN homepage, under the “My Sites” section on the upper-right-hand side, you can click on the appropriate department under “Department Sites” and quickly access all sorts of information about developments in English or what have you.

Do you want a quick weather report so you don’t have to (horrors!) venture outside of Cedar Hall? Scroll past the “My Week” box on your KIN homepage and there you go!

Want to know what’s on the menu at The Café without expending the energy to trudge to the cafeteria, only to be disappointed? Click “Employee Information” (right next to “Applications,” remember), and check out the “Helpful Links” section on the upper-left-hand side of the page. Bon appétit!

Under “Employee Information,” beneath “Helpful Links,” you can also search Kirkwood’s Library resource for books/videos and articles, without leaving KIN!

Need to find a faculty member’s e-mail address? Underneath “Employee Information” in the center of the page, you can easily search the Staff Directory and locate them.

Want to add an important personal or “work-related” site to KIN for easy access? On the KIN homepage, click “My Bookmarks” (next to “My Sites”); click “Add to My Links,” and fill out the quick-and-easy form that follows. Presto!
