INTRODUCTION
Knee joint is primarily a hinge joint
Four movements: flexion, extension, external rotation, and
internal rotation
The knee is highly necessary for weight bearing and locomotion
On a regular basis, the knee can undergo stress from extraweight, strain, compression, and torsion
What contributes to a strong knee joint:
Knee muscles: extensor and flexor muscles
Strong ligaments: provides stability
Meniscus: provides cushioning

Biceps Femoris
Origin long head : ischial tuberosity; short head : lower half of the linea aspera andlateral condyliod ridge
Insertion head of the fibula and lateral condyle of the tibia
Popliteus
Origin posterior surface of lateral condyle of the femur
Insertion upper posterior medial surface of the tibia
Semi Membranosus
Origin ischial tuberosity
Insertion posteromedial surface of the medial tibial condyle
Semi Tendinosus
Origin
ischial tuberosity
Insertionupper anterior medial surface of the tibia just below the condyle

RECTUS FEMORIS MUSCLE
The rectus femoris
extends the knee. Originates on the
anterior side of theilium.
Insertion on thetibial tuberosity,and patella.

30/45
Biceps femoris externally rotates lower leg at the flexed knee
Rotation of the knee occurs when it is flexed at about 20 degrees
Rotation of the knee allows pivoting movements and changing in
direction of the body
