government enactment of the Energy In-

dependence and Security Act of 2007 and

Energy Independence andSecurity Act of 2007

In December of 2007, the Federal Government signed into law

the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The stated

purpose of the Act is “to move the United States toward greater

energy independence and security to increase the production of

clean renewable fuels, to protect consumers, and to create more

energy efficient products, especially lighting”. More energy ef-

ficient product means greater energy savings for the consumer.

The law requires roughly 25% greater efficiency for light bulbs

phased in from 2012 through 2014. THIS WILL EFFECTIVELY BAN

THE SALE OF MOST CURRENT INCANDESCENT LIGHT BULBS.

Under the law, current incandescent bulbs that produce 310-2600

lumens of light will in effect be phased out between 2012 and

2014. Bulbs outside this range (roughly light bulbs currently less

than 40 watts or more than 150 watts but less than 310 watts)

are exempt from the ban.

Lighting counts for 22% of the total U.S. electrical

usage and by eliminating incandescent bulbs completely

would save $18 billion per year.

LED stands for Light-Emitting Diode. A

light-emitting diode is a semi-conductor

light source. When an LED is switched

on, electrons are able to recombine with

holes within the device, releasing energy

in the form of photons. This is what pro-

duces light.

What is an LED Lamp?A light-emitting diode lamp is a solid-state lamp

that uses light-emitting diodes (LED’s) as a source

of light. Since the light output of individual LED’s is

small compared to incandescent lamps, multiple di-

odes are often used together. In recent years, as di-

ode technology has improved, high power LED’s make

it possible to replace other lamps with LED lamps.

Do LED’s provide high quality lighting?Yes, key aspects of lighting quality are color ap-

pearance and color rendering (CRI). This meaning

that the higher the CRI the better quality lighting

there is to offer. Therefore, at Kimberly we strive to

produce products with the highest CRI possible for

each product designation.

Why choose Energy Star qualified LED lighting? At Kimberly Lighting we are privileged to offer sev-

eral Energy Star rated products for our customers

to choose from. Energy star ratings are important

because not all LED lighting is created equally.

Energy Star ratings are awarded to select fixture

types after extensive testing has been completed on

areas such as efficiency, quality, and lifetime crite-

ria. More specifically Energy Star qualified lighting

reduces energy costs, reduces maintenance costs,

reduces cooling costs, has a three-year warranty,

and lastly is durable.

How long do LED’s last?LED’s are up to 80% more efficient than incandes-

cent lamps and can last up to 50,000 hours.

Are LED’s cost-effective?Yes, because LED’s last up to 50,000 hours it is

important to compare total lamp replacement cost

with energy and maintenance cost savings over the

expected life of the LED product. LED is now the

perfect choice for illuminating your home or business.
