Kilmacolm Primary School GOLD Newsletter December 2019 & January 2020 CELEBRATING ACHIEVEMENTS AT SCHOOL, AT HOME AND OUT IN THE COMMUNITY…… THIS DEMONSTRATES THAT THE CHILDREN IN KPS ARE…..SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS AND RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS! …Patrick McAlindon had a very exciting Christmas Day! He dug up some old bombs when he was out testing his new metal detector. He appeared on the STV News and on lots of news websites! What a celebrity! …Patrick McAlindon had a very exciting Christmas Day! He dug up some old bombs when he was out testing his new metal detector. He appeared on the STV News and on lots of news websites! What a celebrity!

SPECIAL GOLD AWARDS FOR SPECIAL GOLD ACHIEVEMENTS…CONGRATULATIONS TO…..

…Hayley Anderson and Nuala McLaughlan entertained the nursery children at the Burns Celebrations with some amazing highland dancing!

…Nina & Elliot Green met a lady who works for Womens Aid and after learning about what they do, they both made donations for their first Christmas Eve Pyjama Party. Nina gifted some soft toys and Elliot bought some books. Nina and Elliot have already planned donations again at their birthday.

…the Angel Voices choir performed at the Inverclyde Music Festival and like last year won the Peter Pan Chalice!

Luca Vitrano, Euan and William Laird all took part in a reverse Advent Calendar and they donated lots of food for the Inverclyde Foodbank. Olivia Mews organised a big box of food for the Inverclyde Foodbank - she gave the box to Fraser, Andy and Paul at the Christmas Service.

P1 GOLD ACHIEVEMENTS Oliver Atkinson - has been putting his KPS cooking skills to good use, he helped make his first mince and potatoes meal! Oliver continues to do so well at his swimming lessons! He achieved his final grading at Tiger Cubs and is now on his white belt for Tae Kwon-do.

Jenson McCarroll - has moved up a grade in swimming lessons and can now swim unaided.

Scarlett Andrew and Annabel McCracken - took part in the 2019 Tapathon before Christmas, helping to raise money for the STV Appeal!

Annabel McCracken - passed all her dance exams and took part in medical experiments using the “Egg Challenge”.

Sandy Mackay - is progressing well in his swimming lessons. Sandy can swim a full 5m confidently on his frontcrawl and is starting to learn more complex swimming strokes. (nominated by Isaac)

Ace McLoud Tyley - was player of the week at the Morton in the Community Football training.

P2 GOLD ACHIEVEMENTS Maisie Wilson - has been a fantastic help at home!

Luke Isaksen - received a trophy for playing football for Port Glasgow Boys Club.

Eve Bunemann - participated in “An Evening of Dance” in Johnstone Town Hall Theatre, run by The Terry School of Dance. The proceeds went to “The Society for Mucopolysaccharide Diseases” and St. Vincent Hospice.

P3 GOLD ACHIEVEMENTS Harry Henderson - passed all the swimming challenges to move up a group this month from Level 5 Dolphins to Swordfish, he has completed 3 park runs and is getting faster each time.

Freya Campbell - has been entertaining Mrs McCredie with her beautiful singing voice during lunchtimes!

Harry Andrew - is progressing well with swimming lessons and has been moved up to the next level!

Elliot Atkinson - was helpful in his community by delivering Christmas cards as part of the scouts post service.

Mimi Mckay - has progressed massively with her swimming lessons, she went from having private lessons  to confidently swimming in a busy level 2a class with teacher Brad and is continuing to improve her swimming each week (nominated by Isaac)

Isobel and Elanor McShane - had two ice skating lessons during the holidays and they both did very well.

Isobel McShane - passed her Tae Kwon-Do grading and is now a yellow belt.

Luca Vitrano - has completed his first junior park run, he has been reading regularly to his little brother (I think Aaron prefers stories from Luca than Mummy)!

Maisie Docherty - passed her Royal Academy of Dance exam with a Gold Merit and a Distinction.

Eli Ross - played piano at an annual recital to help raise £420 for The Sick Children’s Hospital - a fantastic effort and a wonderful achievement.

Abby Isaksen - performed in two ballet shows.

P4 GOLD ACHIEVEMENTS Ailie MacDougall & Ava Gallacher - have been helping each other tie shoe laces!

Euan Laird - received a trophy at the end of season football presentation night for the football team that he plays with.

Murdo MacEachran - took part in a Cubs sleepover at the Science centre, and received a new badge! Murdo is concentrating very well at violin lessons and is working on ‘Twinkle Twinkle’. He is focussing well at his swimming class and enjoying the new level he is now on.

Ellis McQuillan - took up Tae Kwon-Do in August, he achieved a white belt with a yellow stripe at his first ever grading in December.

Libby Cowan - has been practising counting in French and Spanish. She can confidently count up to 10 in Spanish and 69 in French! During the festive period, Libby performed with Angel Voices choir at several events. The highlight was singing with the Bridge of Weir Choral Society at their annual Carol Concert.

Sebastian McCracken - won first place in his category in the hill climb bike ride. He took part in medical experiments using the ‘Egg Challenge’. He was very brave in hospital and thanks his classmates and teachers for all their support.

P5 GOLD ACHIEVEMENTS Freja McKeown - performed 'Walking in the Air' on piano at a Christmas Concert in Kilbirnie Auld Kirk.

Vera McKeown - performed 'Carol of the Bells' on violin at a Christmas Concert in Kilbirnie Auld Kirk, she took part in the Waterfront iceskating show 'The Greatest Showman on Ice' and did six shows in total.

Joseph Wilson - has started to play American football with Inverclyde Phoenix. He has taken part in two tournaments, one before and one after Christmas. He has worked really hard at becoming part of the team and upping their game.

Patrick Greene - was made a sixer in cubs.

Heidi Dow - performed in a Christmas ice skating show.

Amelie McCallum - has used her crafty skills to create a Minecraft head from a cardboard box and paints. Now she can look like one of her Minecraft characters for real! 

Lucas McEwan - has worked hard at his ice skating lessons, he has now been moved up to Level 6.

Reef McLoud Tyley - at the Allander Floor and Vault Gymnastics competition, Reef won an individual Bronze and a team Gold for his routine.

P6 GOLD ACHIEVEMENTS Anna McMinn - was a fantastic big cousin in the holidays taking great care of her little cousin, playing with him and helping him when he was staying with her during the holidays. Anna was delighted to receive a medal for good progress at her recent football presentation.

Brodie McStravick - was such a brave boy going on Big Thunder Mountain and then he was even braver to go on Hyperspace Mountain which went upside down! He has also been enthusiastic about taking long walks round the village including The Knapps and the Glen Moss Nature trails.

Ben Ross, Rahul Samrai, Dreavyn Regan and Kieran McKewon - were very kind to Lewis when he hurt his hand in school.

Hayley Anderson - got 1st place with her sword dance at a recent dance competition.

Sophia Taylor - together with their Girlguiding friends, Sophia braved torrential rain and freezing winds to accompany the Santa Sleigh in Kilmacolm and raised over £500.

P7 GOLD ACHIEVEMENTS Daniel Wilson - has started to play American football with Inverclyde Phoenix. He has taken part in two tournaments, one before and one after Christmas. He has worked really hard at becoming part of the team and upping their game - Daniel even scored two touchdowns last week!

Nixon Williams - joined an American football team with two of his friends, they have played in two large all day tournaments with teams from around the country and one even travelled over from America to play.

Stella MacEachran - has a part in the Scottish Opera production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and will perform at The Festival Theatre in Edinburgh and The Theatre Royal in Glasgow. She is enjoying rehearsals and as well as lots of singing she is also learning to play the Sopranino recorder as part of this very special experience! Stella is working hard at her violin, piano and singing. She is currently preparing for the Inverclyde Music Festival. She also enjoys singing cantor at church regularly. Stella took part in her ballet show which was wonderful - and this year her class also got to take part in the Nutcracker in the second half of the show! 

Canaan Black - played in a piano recital recently.
