The SEA COW Saving Every Animal Changing Our World
World Oceans Day!
World Oceans Day is June 8th! That is less than one month away.
The ocean is over 70% of Earth’s surface. More then 97% of Earth’s water is in the ocean. The average temperature of the ocean is 39 degrees F. More than 3.5 billion people rely on the ocean for food.
The oceans are really important to keep clean. It is home to lots of animals, and some like corals are very fragile.

Saving the WhalesHave you seen the hit show on Animal Planet following the Sea Shepard in its
crusade to save the whales? Whale Wars is an intense show capturing the fight to save whales going on currently in the Antarctic.
The campaign is led by Captain Paul Watson and the Sea Shepard Conservation Society. They use any any non-violent way possible to protect the whales that are being hunted by Japanese ships.
The crew leaves from Australia for a two-month campagin that is dangerous and controversial. They have received international media attention for their whale protecting actions.
It is clear that each volunteer crew member cares deeply for these creatures, and their passion is shown through the tv show. The new season preimeres on June 1st on Animal Planet. Check your local listings for channels and times.
If this cause is something close to your heart, please visit the Sea Shepard Concervation Society (www.seashepard.org) to learn more, donate, and even sign up to volunteer. They have a variety of different campagins going on from protecting sea turtles, whales, seals, and sharks. Their mission is to conserve the ocean.

Cownose Stingray
! Stingrays get their name because they have a barb on the base of their tail which is used for protection. Cownose stingrays can be found swimming in schools up to 10,000 in the wild. Unlike other species of stingrays, cownose swim in schools. ! Despite their reputation, stingrays have more to fear of us, then we do of them. Many species have been heavily overfished and their populations are readily declining. ! The next time you buy sea food, ask where it comes from and how it was caught. Many species like stingrays are accidently caught and die in nets.
