A. Our client, Kids Beating Cancer, helps serve the Central Florida area in caring for and supporting children with cancer. “Kids Beating Cancer’s objective is to be the resource so that children diagnosed with cancer, leukemia or related life threatening diseases will receive the best treatment regardless of their family’s financial situation, while providing support for families as they face the challenging journey towards a cure” (kidsbeatingcancer.com). Over the last 21 years of service, kids beating cancer has served over 7000 children, raised over 11 million dollars, and added over 37,000 new members to the bone marrow registry.
B. Our project objective and SMART goal was to raise $1,200 through seven different events for the foundation kids beating cancer by November 7th. With this money, the kids will be provided a candlelight Christmas party at the Contemporary Resort on December 7th. Fortunately, we were able to exceed our goal and we hope that the extra money will help provide an even better experience than is currently planned. We hope that it will create a good memory for the kids and their families who are fighting their battle with cancer.

Event 1
A. Birdies for Beating Cancer -‐ September 25 -‐ Managed by Dylan Citron. B. The SMART Goal for this was that Team Black Diamond was to raise awareness and
$75 dollars on September 25, 2014 by 2pm at our Birdies for Beating Cancer event. C. It took place outside the Student Union on UCF’s main campus from 10am-‐2pm.
This event consisted of students putting golf balls for a cookie, which was a way to draw them in and spread awareness about our client Kids Beating Cancer. Due to some key factors including having a Kids Beating Cancer banner and a Square card reader, we were able to make about 35% more than our SMART goal. We made $101.36.
D.
E. We learned many things from this first event that we carried over to the rest of our events. First, we learned that having a Kids Beating Cancer banner allowed us to establish credibility. Before the banner was setup, we were receiving little to no donations. Once the banner was up, it attracted people and gave the cause a face. We also learned that Square card reader was very successful. We live in a world
where people do not carry cash. It’s all about the convenient credit and debit cards. More than half of the donations we collected were by card, which means we did not lose out on those cashless people. We also learned that we should target people other than college students, due to the fact that college students are financially unstable. Business skills that were used during this event were pitching the cause we were trying to sell, drawing people in to the table, planning the event via project management plan and work breakdown structure, contacting the client for the banner and getting donations from Publix. All these factors and skills were considered and used in all of the events following Birdies for Beating Cancer.
Event 2
A. Event 2 – Menchie’s Partial Proceeds Week – Matt Heiden B. The SMART goal of this event was to raise $200 over the course of 3 days at Menchie’s
Frozen Yogurt via 10% partial proceeds from each guest check. C. The plan was the have three days of partial proceeds where 10% of each check was
given to our client, Kids Beating Cancer. On the third day, we also had Matt table at the location to pick up additional donations as well as showcase our Client a bit better with a standing banner and table banner. During these three days our goal was to raise $200 in partial proceeds and donations. In actuality, the three day event did happen and Matt did table on the third day. Matt also delegated Mike to help him print off posters and flyers that were set up around Kissimmee and Celebration to advertise the event. Unfortunately, due to the location being near the tourist area of Orlando and September being the slowest month of the year, we were only able to raise $175 or 87.5% of our goal.
D. Photo below:
E.
1. I think that this event contributed well to our overall teams success. Though it didn’t raise the full $200 goal, it did raised $175 which was nearly at that goal. It also achieved the success of a lasting impression in the community since the event was held in the South-‐West part of Orlando. In that area, the charity was not very well known so to those customers and locals who did stop by, they were able to learn more about Kids Beating Cancer and hopefully remember that charity in the future.
2. The business skills that I used for this event were mostly organizational. I used my existing contacts to organize an event that went smoothly, outside of the amount that was donated. We also had a banner and table banner available due to requesting the materials in a timeframe that allowed the client to provide us with the materials we needed. There were no operational glitches with the event and I think that is due to the organization of the event.
Event 3
A. Event #3, 50/50 raffle, Matthew (Cody) Raulerson B. The original objective for this project was to raise $250.00 by C. The outcome of this event was $205.50 or 82.2% of the $250.00 goal. D.
E. Although this event did not raise the entire goal, it was still fairly successful. Five times over the course of three days we collected donations during a bowling league and raffled off half the pot of money each time. One of the lessons learned during this event is that the size of the audience is a huge factor in the size of the donation. Although the participation was nearly 80% at each league, that still only amounted to roughly $45.00 each time from the crowd of 32-‐80 people, depending on the league. Fortunately, another lesson we learned from this event is that older people are very generous, and are more willing to donate to a good cause than they are to purchase something. The most significant business skill I used in this event was interpersonal skills and public speaking in order to get the high level of participation we had.
Canceled events:
1.
A. Event canceled, Item Raffle, Cody Raulerson
B. The original objective for this event was to raise $350.00 by October 31st.
C. Since this event was canceled early on, it didn’t raise any money towards the goal of $350.00.
D. Canceled
E. This event was abandoned early in the semester due to the inability to get an item of value donated in the short time period of this class.
Event 4
A. Flipping Cancer to the Side, Juliano Mazzurco, Event 4
B. My original event was expected to raise $350 in a partial proceeds night at Moe’s Southwest Grill, however it could not be scheduled. My actual event was table flipping which was expected to return $75.
C. We planned to raise $75 dollars but we actually raised $174.86 which is 230% better than expected.
D. Photo below:
E. After dealing with the Moe’s uncooperative corporate team I had to quickly figure out a new plan and event to raise money. I realized that when dealing with corporate offices, a large amount of time must be allocated to get anything accomplished. I contributed by helping at all events possible and by seeking out additional donations to help achieve our SMART goal. I also learned that most people usually over estimate on how much they think they would raise through an event. Delegating of tasks is key to running a successful event because one person is not going to be able to plan, set, and actually run the whole event.
Canceled Event:
A. Event Canceled – Moe’s Partial Proceeds – Juliano Mazzurco
B. The original objective for this event was to raise $350 in a partial proceeds night at Moe’s Southwest Grill.
C. Since this event was canceled early on, it didn’t raise any money towards the goal of $350.
D. Canceled.
E. This event was abandoned early in the semester due to the inability to get ahold of the correct people at Moe’s Southwest Grill in time to complete the event.
Event 5
a) Event 5, Marathon Table, Mike Boghos b) The goal of the event was to raise $200.00 by the end of the event on October 19th. c) I had planned on having about 3000 people at the event and raising at least $200.00 by the end
of the event. It turns out that there were about 2500 people there and I only raised $55.00. d) I would consider this event as a failure. I did not meet my goal I intended to and made very little
profit.
e) I learned a lot from my first event. I did not think ahead about how many people would donate at the event. Considering it was a marathon and just about everyone there did not have money on them, we did not make much. I also tried to sell bananas, waters, and nutria-‐grain bars which also did not work out for me. It turned out that the event was giving away free waters and bananas and people thought that we were also giving it away for free. I could have looked further into the details of the event before deciding to spend money on items to sell to make little to no profit. My only contribution to the team was that we made $55.00. I feel that I could have done a very similar event in a different setting. I believe that I should have held a tabling event, like I did with the marathon, at a farmer’s market. People go to these events with their wallets planning to sell which would have helped us out a lot. The most significant business skill I learned was negotiation. To hold a table at an event like this costs money. I was told the fee was $250.00. However, I was able to negotiate a deal that I would pass out flyers for a free table.
Event 6
a) Event 7, Venus Partial Proceeds, Mike Boghos b) The goal of this event was to raise $125.00 by the end of the event on October 28th. c) I planned on placing a donations jar to receive extra money as well as the partial proceeds. My
expected outcome was $125.00. I ended up with $118.00. I found that a lot of my donations came from the donations jar.
d) This event was a success. I was able to raise more than enough money to meet my goal.
e) In my second event, I learned a lot about how to be successful with my events. I could not be afraid to ask for donations. It seemed to me that when I told people about the organization they would be more willing to donate instead of letting them look at the facts sheet alone. I also had to be aggressive with telling people to make sure they mention Kids Beating Cancer when they cash out. This was a big part of how to make the most money at an event like this. I feel as though I contributed a lot more to the team in this event. It was very successful and did not cost me anything to set up. I ended up making $118.00 for my team. I could have improved these results if I had planned this weeks in advance and advertised about it. The most significant business skill I learned was being able to connect or network with people. The more people I talked to and spent time with the more they were willing to donate.
Event 7
A. Event 6 Bento partial proceeds week -‐ Lexi Bryant B. The smart goal was to raise $200 through a partial proceeds night at Bento Cafe Downtown by November 1st. C. Unfortunately, only 162.40 was raised through the week, which was 80 perfect of my expected goal. Luckily with the successes of our other events we were still ahead on money.
D.
F. Promoting the partial proceeds nights at our other events helped us get a good turn out. Also choosing Bento as the location was a success because UCF students wanted to check out the downtown location before the UCF location opened up. I think we could've promoted the partial proceeds week on social media a bit more, which might have given us more people. Or if we made the event over a span of two weeks instead of one. The most important business skills acquired through this event was communication with the marketing director of Bento. It gave an insight of proper professional communicate with a professional as well as an insight as to how partial proceeds nights work and what Bento does for charities.
Event 8
A. Dress Down Chapter -‐ Project Manager: Andrea Nall B. My SMART goal for my event is to raise $100 on Sunday, November 3rd by doing a “dress
down” chapter meeting at my sorority house. C. With the small amount of time I had before our project was due, I decided to hold a “dress
down” chapter meeting at my sorority house on our normal Sunday meeting day. In exchange for a dollar donation to Kids Beating Cancer, the girls were able to come to the meeting in comfortable clothes instead of our normal business professional attire. With 185 girls in the chapter, I estimated it to raise about $100, since there are conflicts with members making it to every meeting. The dress down chapter meeting exceeded my estimate and raised $170.
D. Picture below:
E. I contributed by helping at every events possible and by having my own event to help achieve our SMART goal. I also learned that most people usually over estimate on how much time they have to plan an event. However, I learned that using your existing networks and resources is sometimes the best way to accomplish tasks and achieve success.
Canceled Event:
A. Title: Hot Dog and Burger Cookout -‐ Project Manager: Andrea Nall B. The original event I planned was to sell burgers and hot dogs outside the Knight’s Pub during
happy hour on October 17th with supplies I was hoping to get donated. Due to upper management having to reschedule the event and then having long response times to choose a different date, I had to create a new plan.
C. This event was estimated to raise between $100-‐$150. D. Canceled.
Event 9
A. Title: Donations -‐ Project Manager: Dylan Citron & Juliano Mazzurco B. The SMART goal for this event was to raise $50 in additional donations by November 1st to
cover for any shortages in our groups overall SMART goal of raising $1200. C. This event was estimated to raise $50, however, our event exceeded expectations and we
raised $165 through family friends corporate donations. D. . E. We contributed by maintaining that we would have enough funds to cover our overall
SMART goal and we were able to exceed our expectations both for this event and then for our overall SMART goal of raising $1200 by raising over $1300.
