News & Info
• Check calendar for themes, closings & special days
• You will receive a Session 2 calendar in March
• Please send some type of bag/backpack each day
• check backpacks DAILY!
Closings
• If FCPS is on a 2 hour delay- there will be NO preschool
• If FCPS will be closing early, please come pick up your child ASAP
• Ch. 18 & FCPS.org, we will also call/text
Session II
• Long winter break from 2nd week of Jan-to 1st week of March
• Session II: March- June (dates tbd)
• 3’s automatically enrolled into 4’s next year
Folders
• Folders will be used as a form of communication
• Check folder/backpacks DAILY. Folders should remain in their backpacks/returned to school every day.
• Used for sending homework back & forth, daily behavior summaries, special events or requests, scholastic orders
Communication• Most communication will be via EMAIL

Snack
• Kids bring their OWN “light” snack-
10:30-10:40• Please send ALL COLD snacks in a labeled
container/bag (lunch box)• LABEL ALL CUPS!!!!!!!• We provide 100% apple juice.• Send healthy snacks- no cookies, cakes, chips• NO POPCORN, Cut grapes in half!
Special days/Treats
• Treat sign up sheets for holidays• Birthday treats may be sent in- plan for 18
– Please send identical items (same color frosting, flavors, toppers, etc.)
• Please read ingredients carefully:• NO marshmallows, nuts or frosting containing
animal fat
Holidays
• Parent permission needed for parties, thematic lessons
• Alternate activities can be arranged
• Trick or treating around UHS-senior staff only
• “Santa” holiday party
Show & Tell
• Show & Tell will be every Monday/Tuesday @ 11:50
• Kids can have items from home during freeplay, but not during lessons.
• Do not send valuable/sentimental items you don’t want passed around
• Do not send live animals or weapon type toys
Homework
• Children will normally have homework once a week. Check their folder.
• It is optional.
• Complete & return in folder for “grading” (stickers/stamps).
Tutoring
• HOPEFULLY once a week
• Mondays/Wednesdays
• both age groups may come
• 2:30-3:15
• basic skills, computer programs
• parent requested specific skills
Clothes
• Extra set:– full set - including socks– name on zip top bag– send long sleeves in cold weather– we’ll let you know of any accidents or wet
clothes– return a new set the next day
BOOKS!
• Check for Scholastic flyers in backpacks. We prefer parents order online: class code HCPG6
• https://orders.scholastic.com/HCPG6• give paper book orders directly to sign in/out
teacher or put in their folder.
• Check backpacks for books- books with a BAR CODE are from the UHS Media center.
Donations
• Check backpacks/folders for requests for donations of household items
• Feel free to send in any “trash” you think we could use, please clean thoroughly
• Please do not send milk jugs
• Other items: dolls/clothes, tissues, baby wipes, books, paper cups, music cds, “dress up” items (no hats)
Absences
• Not necessary to inform of absences
• But, please let us know if your child has been diagnosed with any contagious illnesses
• We’ll inform you of any “outbreaks”
First Aid
• Basic first aid- wash with soap & water, ice & bandage.
• Medication- see Mrs. Borland
• Provide 3 additional phone numbers
• Give password to all contacts
• Accident report forms in folders for any issues.
Health• Please do not send your kids to class 24 hours
AFTER symptoms DISAPPEAR:– Temp of 100 degrees or higher– sore throat– persistent cough– profuse/colored nasal drainage– diarrhea or vomiting– pink eye– skin rash- poison, etc.– other contagious illnesses
Behavior
– RULES of preschool:
– 1. Use your walking feet
– 2. Use your inside voices
– 3. Keep your hands to yourself
– 4. Listen to the teachers/follow directions
Guidance
• Goal to build positive self-esteem & self-control
• 3 step system:– Remind, Warn, Consequence
• Time out- less than 2 minutes
• 4 time outs/week- “think day” at home
• Email Mrs. Borland with any concerns or need additional info.
Daily Behavior
• Each day there will be an indicator in each child’s folder as to how their day went.
EITHER:– Sticker on the calendar:
good day/or reminded only once
OR
- Behavior slip: warning or time out for specific rules
“W”= “off” day /warning (previously reminded)
“C”= Time out/consequence (reminded &warned)
: ( = sad day-cried- hurt, upset, etc.
Sign In procedures• Sign in teacher- clipboard to sign- mandatory• Parents may bring kids in, but must leave the
preschool room by 9:20- circle time• DO NOT PARK IN FIRE LANE !• Sign in sheet:• “Notes”- pick up early, behavior concerns, special
occasions, book info, show & tell notes• Snack- Yes or No & C- if snack goes in fridge• If you come late, call the preschool & a teacher
will meet you outside.
Shuttle• Pull up in front of gym/against fence• Teachers bring kids inside -9:15-9:30• If you arrive after 9:30, call preschool. A teacher can
come out to bring your child inside.• Afternoon shuttle begins around 11:45. • If you arrive early, call preschool. You will have to
give password• Preschool ends at 11:55• Shuttle ends at 12:05!!!
Sign out Procedures• Mandatory- sign out signature
• Parents can come inside to pick up kids
• DO NOT PARK IN FIRE LANE!
• If using “Shuttle service”…
• MUST say password– give to ALL contacts– anyone w/o password must show ID & match contact card– THEN kids will be brought out to the car– We’d like a family/pick up adult picture
