Safe Use of Ideal 18s

To take a boat out for open sailing all sailors

regardless of prior sailing experience must be

certified by the Director of Sailing.

Life vests (PFDs) are required when sailing.

We recommend all sailors have their own vests,

sailing gloves and non-marking shoes. There are 2

vests stored on each boat.

Boats must be signed out and a radio brought on

board.

Sailing area is between the Tappan Zee Bridge and

Hook Mountain. Boats may cross the shipping

channel but should avoid spending time in the

channel.

Safe Use of Ideal 18s

Boats must be on their mooring by sunset.

The use of alcohol, marijuana or any other drugs

are prohibited while on the boat.

When returned to the mooring, the boat should be

stowed according to the Rigging/Derigging guide

that is on board.

Any issues or necessary repairs should be noted in

the log book.

The boats shall not be brought to the dock except

for emergencies

When racing, a fleet member knowledgeable in the

Racing Rules of Sailing should be on board. Boat

to boat contact is always to be avoided.

A Note on Damage

The Ideal 18 program absorbs the cost of repairs and replacement of broken equipment due to normal wear and tear. The program does not absorb the cost of repairing substantial damage or loss of equipment, including damage that requites immediate repair, compromises the integrity of the hull or deck or that breaks the gel coat of the boat. Any incident must be reported to the DOS immediately. The DOS will then interview the skipper and others to determine the relevant facts for the purpose of fault and responsibility for the cost of repairs. There is a $500 deductible per skipper per incident. Other expenses may be assigned to the skipper if reckless behavior or disregard for property that caused the damage
