Welcome players, officials, members and club partners to this Round 18 clash

against Manly United. I extend that welcome to our visitors from the Northern Beaches.

It is round 18 of the competition and semi-finals are not too far away. Following back to back victories over Sutherland Sharks and Parramatta FC in a mid-week catch up fixture, the team is sitting in 3rd position on the competition ladder. That said, we have 5 regular season games to go and they are all tough encounters starting with today’s opponents, Manly United.

As I mentioned above, our last game was a mid-week away catch up fixture against Parramatta FC. On a difficult pitch, it was pleasing to come away with the 3 competition points courtesy of goals from Blake Riciutto and Trent McLenehan.

Manly will be a different proposition and if the last encounter between our two sides is anything to go by, a thrilling 3-3 draw earlier this season, this should be an entertaining game.

In the lower grades, both our 18s and 20s sides will be looking to secure maximum points. Our 18s are currently entrenched in the top 5 while our 20s will be looking to get a win to put pressure on those teams currently above them on the competition ladder.

Our SAP and Youth sides are also in action this weekend against Bonnyrigg and St.George

respectively. Our youth had the weekend off whilst our SAP teams made the long trip out to Bathurst where there were some fantastic performances from our stars of tomorrow.

For our non-comp Juniors, they too will be back in action whilst for our comp grade Juniors, its business as usual. A special mention to our local All Age A men’s team for securing the minor premiership on the weekend and automatic promotion to the local Premier League competition. Well done to the team which features former first grade captain and club stalwart, Pece Apolevski.

Our annual ball, club raffle and junior gala day are all just around the corner so there is much happening at the club. Come on down and support your team as we look forward to what is always a busy July-August.

FIRST GRADE

Third placed Rockdale City Suns will be out to put the pressure on the competition’s top

two sides with a win against Manly United FC on Sunday.

Paul Reid’s side has returned to form in recent weeks to sit only two points behind second placed APIA Leichhardt Tigers.

Rockdale boasts the league’s leading goal scorer in Jordan Figon and he will be hoping to increase his tally on Sunday.

Manly come into this match in fifth position with a three point lead ahead of Sydney United 58 FC.

United has struggled to find consistent results this season but will need to change that trend if they are to cling onto the final qualifying spot for the playoffs.

Both teams have plenty of firepower and quality across the park so expect this to be an entertaining matchup for the fans.

Rockdale City Suns have turned their season around in recent weeks and can give

themselves a real chance at chasing down a finals spot with a win over Manly United at home on Sunday.

Although the ninth-placed Suns were edged 2-1 by Sutherland in round seventeen the side had previously won three on the bounce to join a cluster of sides posturing for a late dash at the top five.

Rockdale are the league’s second lowest scorers with forward James Temelkovksi (five goals in 15 appearances) representing the main threat for tenth-placed opponents Manly, who fought to a credible 2-2 draw with Sydney Olympic a fortnight ago.

The underperforming 2016 premiers have conceded far too many goals to be among the serious title contenders this season but can leapfrog the Suns in the table with a win – one that would keep their campaign alive.
