Do not litter. • Be sensitive to wildlife. Bears can be dangerous and should not be fed. Food must be stored away from your campsite, preferably in a locked vehicle, to avoid attracting hungry animals. Do not store food in your tent. •Warm clothing is needed for cool nights. • The use of insect repellent will add to your comfort. • Learn to recognize and avoid poisonous plants such as poison ivy. • In case of injury or illness contact a Campground Attendant or Park Patrol Officer. They can assist you to reach medical help. • Canoeists and hikers travelling in backcountry areas should advise a friend of their intended destination and anticipated length of trip. • Backcountry camping is only allowed at designated campsites. • It is illegal to use or transport elm firewood. The park, named for all the spruce trees growing in the area, was once the home of Fort des Epinettes, a 1700s Northwest Company trading provisioning post. Spruce Woods is home to the famous Spirit Sands, a desert-like area that features sand dunes that tower up to 30 metres. Within these dunes, catch a glimpse of Manitoba’s only lizard, the Northern prairie skink, or see the Western hognose snake and cacti - all unique to Manitoba! Be sure to visit the Devils Punch Bowl, an eerie pond formed by an underground stream. There are 11 oxbow lakes found in the park, one of which is Kiche Manitou Lake located in the Day Use area of the campground. “Kiche Manitou” is an aboriginal phrase meaning “Great Spirit.” The park boasts an interpretive centre including an interactive interpretive workshop and an Exhibit building that open up into a spacious amphitheatre. Visit the gift shop operated by the park's cooperating association, The Friends of Spruce Woods Inc. Join the park interpreters on a guided hike or participate in an amphitheatre or campfire program to help make your visit more enjoyable and meaningful. Bring the kids to a family program so they too can connect with the park in new ways. There are many activities available for busy families including interpretive programs, canoe and paddleboat rentals as well as miniature golf at the Pine Fort IV concession, fishing, swimming, bird watching, and biking or hiking along the many trail throughout the park. Horse enthusiasts can bring their horses and trek along the equestrian trails through the backcountry. The Kiche Manitou campground features electrical, basic and yurt camping. See the best features of the Spirit Sands and Devils Punch Bowl with a covered wagon ride booked with the Spirit Sands Wagon Outfitters. If you are on the lookout for fresh produce and baking, be sure to stop by the Famers Market in Glenboro and Carberry on your way to Spruce Woods.
