Former Ministry of Labour inspector Mark Gignac brings 30 years of experience to this open discussion about supervisor duties and responsibilities as it relates to accident investigations. Actual court cases are touched upon – along with the perspective of the courts and judges – in order to fully understand the true responsibilities of a supervisor. Learn what questions are typically asked during an accident investigation. Having created a template of 50 different categories of questions for the MOL investigation case management system in the northern Ontario region, Mark brings a unique and valuable perspective to help you better understand the legal duties and responsibilities of a supervisor.

BURNOUT IN THE WORKPLACE: A FOCUS ON PREVENTION Kamil RizviRegional Health and Safety Consultant Public Services Health and Safety Association

According to Statistics Canada more than 3,400,000 Canadian workers feel burned out. Burnout is a psychological response to hazards. This presentation will explore the workplace factors which have the potential to cause the mental harm leading to burnout. Additionally, we will be discussing what we can do to eliminate or control the hazards which have the potential to result in burnout.

The first wave of the newest generation graduated high school last June which means it is now possible to encounter five different generations in a workday. Violence and harassment in the workplace has always existed but the law has not always been responsive. Developments in wrongful dismissal; grievance arbitration; the Occupational Health and Safety Act; the Human Rights Code and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act now provide more tools. This presentation will review some of the many of the options and current decisions addressing violence and harassment.
