Frisco High School musicians (left to right) Aubrey Worley,12, Mason High,12, Alex Clink,12, and Gillian Herman,10, verbalize their stress with each other while waiting for their name to be called for the semester band auditions to ease their nerves on December 17th. “Becoming friends with new people every year is why band has remained so enjoyable” Clink said.
Principle saxophone player, Michelle Park, 12, raises her hand during class to ask about a rhythm in the music for the winter concert. “Getting one-on-one attention is the easiest way for me to learn” Park said.
Multi-instrumentalist, Branson Plunk, 12, plays the bass for the varsity Frisco High School band. Along with the bass, Plunk has played tuba, sousaphone, guitar and actively sings for his church. “I can’t wait to study music business when I attend Alabama next fall” Plunk said.
Tuba player, Adam Naumann, 12, practices Percy Grainger’s “Shepherd’s Hey” for the Holiday concert. Shepard’s Hey was conducted by student teacher Tony Gonzalez as his last assignment before he finished his undergrad. “I chose to play the tuba because it’s big and shiny,” Naumann said.
Michelle Tong, 11, rehearses the harp for the holiday concert. “Harps add a graceful touch to the pieces of music” Tong says.
Kirsten Evans,10, (left) and Alvin Lo, 11,(right) practice the violin in Mrs. McDaniel’s orchestra rehearsal. “I hope being involved in so many activities will help me get into great colleges,” Evans said.
Frisco High Orchestra students rehearses for the 2nd annual Choir-Orchestra combined holiday concert. “This is my favorite concert we have all year,” Lendon Jackson (11) states.
FHS Orchestra teacher, Mrs. McDaniel, conducts holiday songs for the Holiday concert. “There’s not anything I’d rather be teaching than the arts,” McDaniel said.
The Frisco High Choir practices for the Orchestra-Choir combined holiday concert. “Becoming a better singer has helped me become a better actor as well,” Johnny Mata, 11, says.
Frisco High varsity horns (left to right), Kaleigh Gallant,12, Nate Meeks, 11, and Annie Ratner, 12, practice for the Grainger Concert in which all pieces played are arranged by Percy Grainger. “The greatest thing about band isn’t playing notes, it’s having the opportunity to play real music,” Nate Meeks said.
Kaleigh Gallant, 12, plays horn in the varsity band for the 3rd consecutive year. She plans to attend SMU and be highly involved in the music program. “I love making great music with my friends” Kaleigh said.
Julia Hambright, 11, and Ethan Zimbelman, 10, listen to the band director as he lectures about the importance of independent practice. “I am inspired by the trumpet section leader, Juan, to play the trumpet” Zimbelman said.
Trombonist, Carlton Shnell, 11, listens attentively to student teacher, Tony Gonzales, while he instructs Sheapard’s Hey. “I enjoy band because I like being with my friends,” Shnell said.
John Cox gets distracted after the saxophone section interrupts rehearsal with there giggles. “Band is more fun when there’s friends with you” Cox said.
