    What is parenting?

Parenting is the process of promoting and supportingthe physical, emotional, social, and intellectual

development of a child from infancy to adulthood.

Being a parent is one of the most fulfilling

experiences a person can have. The most

important thing a parent can give their child,

however, is a sense of being loved.

Parenting refers to the aspects of raising a child

    aside from the biological relationship.

    1. What you do matters

    - This is one of the most important

    principles

    - What you do makes a difference

    - Your kids are watching you.

    - Don't just react on the spur of the moment.

    2. You cannot be too loving

    - It is simply not possible to spoil a

    child with love

    - A spoiled child is not a result of

    showing him too much love.

    3. Be involved in your childs life

    - Rearrange your priorities

    - Sacrifice what you want to do forwhat your child needs to do

    - Be there mentally as well as

    physically.

    5. Establish and set rules

    - Manage your childs behavior while

    he is young

    - Teach him how to tell right from

    wrong- Consequences for bending the

    rules.

    6. Foster your child's independence

    - Encouraging independence

helps develop a sense of self-

direction- It is normal for children to push

    for autonomy.

    7. Be consistent

    - Your rules mustnt vary from day to

    day

    - When parents aren't consistent,

    children get confused.

    8.Avoid harsh discipline

    - Parents should never hit a child

    - Spanking causes aggression in

    children

    - Time out instead of spanking.

    9. Explain your rules and

    decisions

    10. Treat your child with respect

    - Children treat others the way

    their parents treat them

    - Give your child the same

    courtesies you would give to

    anyone else.

    - What is obvious to you may

not be evident to a 12-year-old

How to be a good parent: Its all about

    you!

Research has shown that the one thing a person can do

to be a better parent is to focus on developing him or

herself. This is where a person has to start in order to be

a loving, involved mother or father.

We project our critical feelings about ourselves on to

    our children.

The ambivalent attitudes we have toward our children

are simply a reflection of the ambivalent attitudes we

have toward ourselves. It is not uncommon for parents

to disown their self-critical attitudes by projecting them

    onto their child.

As a result, children begin to see themselves through a

negative filter, which will stay with them throughout

    their lives.
