Anand Kumar, SecretaryMr Anand Kumar has served as Joint Secretary in Ministry of Tourism. He has also served as the Managing Director, National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited in 2014. He joined Indian Administrative Service in the year 1984 and was allotted to Kerala state. He holds an M.Phil with distinction from University of Delhi and MBA with honours from University of Queensland, Australia. During his career he has held many important positions in tourism, infrastructure, industry, biotechnology, finance, revenue, elections and governance sectors under the State and federal governments.

He was appointed as Chief Technical Adviser for Nigerian General Elections 2007 by UNDP. He served UNDP, Nigeria for the purpose from 2006 to 2008. He has since acted as a resource person for UNDP on Elections and Governance having done assignments in Cambodia, Lebanon and Belgium. Mr Kumar designed international campaign ‘Find What You Seek’ that received First Golden Gate Award in Berlin and domestic campaign ‘Go Beyond’ while working as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. In Infrastructure sector, Mr. Kumar scripted first Port Privatisation Policy for the country. He was Founding Managing Director of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL). In spare time, Mr. Kumar writes and paints.

Dr. Mahesh Sharma, MinisterDr. Mahesh Sharma was previously, Minister of state (Independent charge) Culture and Tourism and Minister of State Civil aviation. He is a Member of Parliament, (Lok Sabha) from Gautam Budh Nagar constituency, U.P. and also member of Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare and Member of Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Urban Development. Prior to this, Dr. Mahesh Sharma was elected as

first MLA of Noida newly constituted Constituency. Dr Sharma is National Convener of Medical Cell (BJP), Member of BJP State Working Committee, (U.P.), Chairman of Kailash Group of Hospitals and Chairman of IMA Standing Committee for Public Relations.

In his previous stint as environment secretary, Lavasa simplified procedures for environmental clearance and brought down the time for issuing clearances from 600 days on average to 190 days after introduction of online applications. In the case of forest clearances, the time for approvals was brought down from 420 days on average to 170 days. Lavasa, in his role as aviation secretary for a brief period of seven months, worked out the policy for the maintenance, repair and overhaul industry, and the design for no-frills airports.

Mrs. Sushma Swaraj resigned from the Union Cabinet to take over as the first woman Chief Minister of Delhi in October 1998. Later, she returned to national politics and was Minister for Information & Broadcasting from September 2000 - January 2003 and Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Parliamentary Affairs from January 2003 to May 2004. Upon completing his time as Ambassador in Prague, Dr. Jaishankar returned once again to India, where he led the Americas Division in the Ministry of External Affairs. After three years heading the division, he again left India in 2007 to serve as High Commissioner to Singapore for two years. Dr. Jaishankar was the Ambassador of India to China from 2009 to 2013 and was the Ambassador of India to US before assuming responsibilities as Foreign Secretary.

Gireesh B. Pradhan, ChairpersonA career civil servant with over 37 years of experience, both at the national and state level, Shri Gireesh B Pradhan was born in Mumbai on 20th December 1952. Before joining the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1977, Shri Pradhan briefly taught history at the undergraduate level in Delhi University and also served in the State Bank Group as a Probationary Officer.

He was also closely associated with the setting up of the new district of Sindhudurg in 1980-81. Later he worked as the Member and Secretary of the Maharashtra State Electricity Board. Mr. Pradhan has also been the Municipal Commissioner of Pune and Additional Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai. As Director General of YASHADA, he was instrumental in making that institution a premier civil services training institute of the country. At the national level, Mr. Pradhan has worked in the Ministries of Food & Civil Supplies, Home Affairs and Power. He has served in the office of the President of India from 1992 to 1997 both as Director and then Joint Secretary to the President. He also served as Secretary to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha 2002 to 2003. Mr. Pradhan joined the Ministry of Power, as Joint Secretary, in November, 2003 where he was handling diverse subjects including Planning, Coordination, Energy Efficiency, Transmission and OM. He also served as Chairman of the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).

A.K.Singhal, Member

Shri A.K. Singhal, a Chartered Accountant by profession, has a distinguished career, characterized by steadfast adherence to principles. He has a rich & varied experience of over 37 years in Corporate Finance Management. He worked as Director (Finance) of NTPC Limited (a Maharatna Company) for over 8 years. In NTPC, Mr. Singhal played a pivotal role in providing valuable

inputs to the Board for taking various strategic decisions to enable the company in achieving its Vision. He was responsible for the entire gamut of financial management of the organization including financial resource mobilization from domestic & global sources, optimum utilization of funds, budgetary controls and investment decisions. During his tenure of 12 years in NTPC, he had led several landmark transactions for the Company such as its IPO, FPO & OFS of equity, very large term loan facilities from banks and financial institutions and establishment of USD 2 billion Medium Term Note Programme and

issuance of notes there under. As CFO, he was responsible for establishing adequate internal control systems and adherence by the company to sound corporate governance practices.

Considering the contributions and rich knowledge & experience of Mr. Singhal, the Government of India has appointed him as Member, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission for a period of 5 years and joined the Commission on 9th October 2013, to shoulder even higher responsibilities as the Power Sector Regulator.

Ravindra Kumar Verma, Chairperson

Ravindra Kumar Verma is presently holding the charge of Chairperson, Central Electricity Authority, Ministry of Power, Government of India. He is also working as Member, Grid Operation and Distribution (GO&D) in the Central Electricity Authority. He has over 37 years of service in different capacities in CEA. He began

his career with BHEL and after being inducted into Central Power Engineering Services Group-A 1979 Batch, he joined CEA in January 1981.

As Chairperson, CEA he is responsible for the discharge of CEA's statutory functions and duties which are enshrined under the Electricity Act, 2003 and broadly include formulation of National Power Policy & Plans, Integrated resource planning and optimization of resource utilization, Policies for safe, secure and economic operation of regional and national grid, Techno-economic evaluation of power projects, renovation and modernization schemes, investigation of accidents on electrical installations, environmental aspects of generation projects, monitoring of rural electrification and optimization of Distribution network, regulatory, legal and financial matters co-operation with neighboring countries for development of water resources, cross boarder power transmission, etc.

Pankaj Batra, Member

Pankaj Batra joined the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) in 1983 through the UPSC’s Combined Engineering Services Examination. He has worked in the Western Regional Load Despatch Centre (WRLDC) as a System Operator, operation and maintenance of Power House, Switchyard and Dam in Chukha Hydro Power Corporation in Bhutan and operation and maintenance of transmission and distribution system of Bhutan and also erection of the first 220 kV station in Bhutan at Thimphu.

He has also worked in the Grid Management in the CEA Headquarters, monitoring Regional Grids. He was involved in the finalization of issues in the Indian Electricity Grid Code (IEGC), Availability Based Tariff (ABT), Open Access, Power Exchange, etc. He framed the regulations of CEA on Technical Standards for Connectivity to the Grid and regulations on Grid Standards. He has worked as Chief

(Engineering) in Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) formulating various Regulations, including various provisions related to wind and solar generation in the revised Indian Electricity Grid Code. He also started the Division on Regulatory Affairs in CEA and was responsible for regulatory issues of CEA, CERC and SERC Regulations. He was also earlier Member Secretary of the National Reliability Council for Electricity.

K S Popli, Chairman and Managing Director

K S Popli was earlier Director (Technical) in IREDA. He is an electric engineer from the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra. He has worked for more than 33 years in the power sector during which he was also associated with the National Hydel Power Corporation for 11 years.

Satish Kumar Bhargava, Director (Finance)

Satish Kumar Bhargava has been a Director of Finance at Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited since December 26, 2012 and served as its Company Secretary until December 26, 2012. Mr. Bhargava served as a General Manager of Finance and Accounting at Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited. Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, Niti Aayog

A DPhil in economics from Oxford and a PhD from Lucknow University, Rajiv Kumar has held senior positions in the Ministries of Industries and Finance, and is currently serving as founding director of Pahle India Foundation, a non-profit financial, economic and political research think-tank. He is an independent member in the high-level search committee for appointment of regulators in the Indian financial sector, a government-nominated independent director on

the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India, an independent director on the Board of Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Ltd, and a member of the Advisory Board of CISCO India.

He has been a senior fellow at the Centre for Policy Research, the secretary general of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and chief economist at the Confederation of Indian Industry. An author of several books, Kumar released one last year called ‘Modi and his Challenges’. According to the publisher, in the book, Kumar “recommends measures that Modi must implement to deliver on his promises, thereby enabling India to realise its true potential”.

Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Aayog

Amitabh Kant is an IAS officer, 1980 batch. Until March 2016, Kant was posted as national Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP). He was responsible for formulation and implementation of industrial policy and strategies for industrial development, monitoring the industrial growth and performance of specific industrial sectors, formulation of foreign direct

investment (FDI) policy and FDI promotion and facilitation. Related policies covered intellectual property rights relating to patents, trademarks, industrial design and geographical Indications. He was also responsible for promotion of productivity, quality and technical cooperation.

Dr. Bibek Debroy, Member, Niti Aayog

Bibek Debroy is an Indian economist. From March 2007 to January 2015, he was professor at Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi. He has also been Visiting Honorary Senior Research Fellow for Institute for South Asian Studies in National University of Singapore from May 2009 to 2014.

Since its conception in January 2015, Mr. Debroy has been a member of NITI Aayog, the think tank of Indian Government. As the head of the panel on restructuring railways Mr. Debroy brought out a final report seeking to appoint an independent regulator while doing away with Rail Budget altogether.

Suresh Prabhu, Minister

Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu is an Indian politician and the current Minister of Commerce & Industry of India, under the Narendra Modi government. He is a Chartered Accountant by profession and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Since 1996, he has been a repeatedly elected Member of

Parliament from Rajapur Lok Sabha constituency in Maharashtra as a member of the Shiv Sena (SS) political party. He quit Shiv Sena and joined BJP on 9 November 2014. He currently represents Andhra Pradesh in Upper House of Indian Parliament.

Ramesh Abhishek, Secretary

Ramesh Abhishek, a 1982 batch Bihar cadre IAS officer, had earlier headed FMC. Subsequently, he was serving as secretary of performance management at the Cabinet Secretariat. Abhishek's term at FMC saw a major development relating to the National Spot Exchange Ltd. Subsequently, FMC was shifted from the ministry of consumer affairs to the finance ministry. It was later merged with Sebi from September 2015.

He has been the Chairman and Part-Time Director at Nagapattinam-Madhugiri Transmission Company Limited since March 29, 2012 and of Powerlinks Transmission Limited since September 30, 2015. K Sreekant, Director (Finance)

K. Sreekant has assumed the charge of Director (Finance) of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) on 1st September 2016. Prior to taking up this assignment, he was working as General Manager (Finance), NTPC. Mr. Sreekant has about thirty years of experience in the power sector involving all facets of Finance &

Accounting function and in particular, long term financial planning, investment appraisals, formulation of capital budgets, resource mobilization from domestic and international markets and corporate accounts.

R P Sasmal, Director (Operations)

Prior to taking up this assignment, he was Executive Director (Operation Services) in the company. A graduate Engineer from Sambalpur University, Odisha, Shri Sasmal has more than 34 years of experience in power sector. Shri Sasmal has handled multi-disciplinary functions such as planning, monitoring and implementation of

HVDC projects, EHV transmission systems and Load Despatch and Communication Systems. He was instrumental in introducing the ±800 kV multi-terminal HVDC transmission system which is first of its kind in the world. Under his guidance, the first unmanned operation of 400 kV sub-station at Bhiwadi was implemented as a pilot project.

He has been bestowed upon with “Distinguished Member of CIGRE, 2012” and has published various technical papers on transmission systems especially on HVDC in various national and international professional forums/societies like IEEE and CIGRE. He is currently the national representative for India at CIGRE for HVDC and Power Electronics. Before joining POWERGRID in 1993, he had worked in NTPC Ltd. for around 13 years. He was appointed as a Director on our Board in August, 2012.

Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General

Mr Banerjee has been with the CII for over 26 years and has been the Director General, CII since May 2008. Mr. Banerjee is a Post-Graduate (MS) in Economics with specialisation on Economics of Planning and Econometrics from the University of Calcutta. Earlier, he did his Graduation from St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) in Economics (Hons).

Mr Banerjee has been responsible for important areas of work including the Sectoral Verticals - Manufacturing, Services, Agriculture and Life Sciences Sectors and the SMEs. He has led key policy work of CII in the areas of Economic Policy, Financial Services and Corporate Governance (he was also the First Executive Director of the National Foundation of Corporate Governance -NFCG, an organization set up

Soma Banerjee, Principal – Energy & InfrastructureSoma Banerjee has represented the Indian industry at national and international forums on policy and technology issues. Among the recent international forums where she participated both as a speaker and as a member of the official delegation include COP 21 at Paris, India Energy Strategic Energy Dialogue at Tokyo, Clean Energy Ministerial at Seoul, Energy dialogue at Mozambique, the Energy Dialogue at UK to name a few. Reinvest, the first ever

global investment summit in renewable energy was organised by the energy team in partnership with the ministry of new and renewable energy in 2015.

In parallel, the Infrastructure Team, which she directly led, has been working with the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) on the National Mission on Smart Cities, with specific focus on sustainable urban construction and systems. Mobility, urban transport, infrastructure financing, and construction are some of the key areas I work on under the infra space. Prior to CII, she was a reporter at The Economic Times.

Dr. Sanjaya Baru, Secretary General

Dr. Sanjaya Baru took over as Secretary General of FICCI from 1st September 2017. He has been editor of India's major financial newspapers, The Economic Times, Financial Express and Business Standard. He was professor of economics at University of Hyderabad, Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (Delhi) and Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (Singapore).

Dr. Baru has been Media Advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh (2004-08) and Director for Geo-economics and Strategy, International Institute of Strategic Studies, London (2011-16). He was Member, National Security Advisory Board of India (1999-2001), India-ASEAN Eminent Persons Group (2010) and the Indian National Defence University Committee (2002-2004). Dr. Sanjaya Baru will also be Secretary General of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), India Chapter; Secretary General, FICCI Confederation of MSMEs (CMSME) ; and Director General, Indian Council of Arbitration.

Some of his notable publications include: The Strategic Consequences of India's Economic Performance; India and the World: Essays on Geo-economics and Foreign Policy; Accidental Prime Minister: The Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh; & 1991: How P V Narasimha Rao Made History.

Prior to this, he was the Chief Executive – New Initiatives (Fuel & Power Distribution) at CESC Ltd. He was also the President & Chief Executive at the Integrated Coal Mining Ltd. where he was responsible for

P&L of integrated operations of captive coal mining, coal washery and AFBC power plant with additional charge of business development of power distribution and acquisition of domestic and off-shore coal assets.

Vivek Pandit, Senior DirectorMr. Pandit has been serving in FICCI since 1995 where has held several positions like Director – Energy and Defense & Aerospace, Assistant Secretary General, etc. He holds a Master’s in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics.
