Local Healthwatch Positioning Helping West Berkshire get the best out of local health and social care.
Local voices improving local health and care
The ambition of local Healthwatch is… The best health and care services, shaped by local needs and experiences
The principles that drive us are… Championing equality Representation, evidence, and accountability
Local Healthwatch shares with Healthwatch England its ambition to achieve the best health and care services that are shaped by local needs and experiences
The way we go about all our work is… Open, flexible, approachable Practical and dynamic ‘From the ground-up’
Local Healthwatch will work towards this ambition in their area, championing fairness and equal access and treatment, making sure they are at all times representative of the whole community and local needs, rooted in the evidence of local experiences and accountable, ultimately, to local people
Every voice counts. Local influence for local impact
Every voice counts when it comes to shaping the future of health and social care, and when it comes to improving it for today. Everything that local Healthwatch does will bring the voice and influence of local people to the development and delivery of local services. Children, young people and adults need to feel that their local Healthwatch belongs to and reflects them and their local community. It needs to feel approachable, practical and dynamic and to act on behalf of local people
Healthwatch will give children, young people and adults a powerful voice locally and nationally. Local Healthwatch will work to help people get the best out of their local health and social care services. Whether it’s improving them today or helping to shape them for tomorrow. Local Healthwatch is all about local voices being able to influence the delivery and design of local services. Not just people who use them, but anyone who might need to in the future.

Healthwatch aims are aligned with the voluntary sector’s
Together we’ll shape a better future for our health and care services
What is going on in the world that makes what we do important?
These are challenging and uncertain times for children, young people and adults using health and social care services
There are huge changes taking place in our health and social care services, especially in commissioning
We know how unsettling it is and we understand the real concerns about the effect of the upheaval and funding cuts on the children, young people and adults you work with
As the changes take effect, Healthwatch will help children, young people and adults to find their way around the new landscape
Healthwatch gives your members/clients a voice that will influence commissioning
Why do we feel that this is important?
A coordinated and unified voice is a stronger voice for children, young people and adults who use and need to use services
Children, young people and adults must have the opportunity to make choices. They need to be heard
Healthwatch can help you help your members and clients speak out and influence services for their health and wellbeing
Healthwatch can bring together the voices of many groups and organisations and by speaking together be more powerful
Healthwatch can gather your members’ and clients’ experiences and use them to build a better system, based on what really works
Working together will produce better solutions

How are we solving these problems?
We can work together to help children, young people and adults understand the changes. We can work together to support people as their services are transformed
We can work together to make sure children, young people and adults take every opportunity to be involved in developing and shaping improvements to services
Our seat on the Health and Wellbeing Board gives us real influence
We’re all about building relationships with communities, voluntary organisations and service providers
We know the massive role the voluntary sec-tor plays in health and social care. We’re not here to reinvent the wheel – we’re here to work alongside you and support your work and make a difference
How do we want people to respond?
These are great challenges – we’ll work in partnership to make sure services are better for everyone
