If you are planning on participating in the District Horse Show, please come by the Extension Office to pick up the necessary
paperwork for Validation. The paperwork along with a $10 validation fee will be due to the Extension Office on May 1st.
Also due to the Extension Office by May 1st is a copy of the horses registration papers and documentation of a current negative coggins test.
Regisrtation on 4‐H Connect will be open from April 26th to May 13th. Late registration will be accepted until May 16th with a $50 late fee.

LIVESTOCK PROJECTS
State Fair Validation Tags If you are planning at the State Fair of Texas in
Dallas, you must order Validation Tags for those animals.
Lambs & Goats - Tag orders must be turned into the Extension Office no later than April 9th. Tags are $7/each & payment
must be made at the time the order is placed.
Swine - Tag orders must be turned into the Extension Office no later than April 28th. Tags are $7/each & payment must be made at the time the order is placed.
Kerr 4-H Project Center
Pens are filling up fast. If you are wanting a pen
in the project center for your 2011
animal projects, please come by the
Extension Office to get on the list.
Pens are limited & will fill on a first-
come-first-serve basis.
The fee is $50/pen & must be paid in order to
reserve your space.

Hill Country District Junior Livestock $how checks are in!!!! A print out of the buyers for your animal(s) were handed out at the February club meetings. If you did not get a copy,
contact the Extension Office.
In order to pick up your check, you must turn in a completed & signed Livestock Record Book, along with copies of Thank You notes sent to all buyers.
A signature will also be required.

2010 Texas 4-H Congress This is a 4-day mock legislative experience for 4-H members ages 15 to 18. During this time, the 4-H members assume the roles of senators, representatives, lobbyists, press
corps, and special interest groups to gain a first-hand understanding of how the
legislative process works. Bills that are written and sponsored by 4-H members focus on issues concerning Texas and Texas youth. These bills are assigned to the appropriate committee and then debated in committee meetings and then on the floor of the House or Senate. If a bill is successful in negotiation and the legislative debate in all 3 stages, it is delivered to the Governor of the Texas 4-H Congress for his or her signature or veto. Copies of all
the bills that are signed into law during Texas 4-H Congress are provided to the Office of Governor Rick Perry for his review.
This event will take place in Austin, Texas July 11-14, 2010 &. The cost of this conference will be $275. Depending on the number of
participants from Kerr County we will discount the cost. If this sounds like something that you would be interested in, please contact
the Extension Office for more details on how to apply.
Tractor Supply Company Paper Clovers Campaign Friday, March 26th through April 18th, 4-H Clovers will be sold in Tractor Supply Company stores in all 44 states for $1 by TSC store clerks & prominently displayed in-store. 60% of the funds raised by the paper clovers sold will go directly to the county 4-H program in which it was raised.
Sportsman All weather, All terrain and Marksmanship Training (SAAM)
Kerr County participants in this years SAAM training were Miles Michel, Dylan Huser, Emma Hamilton & Bailey
Teague.
What is SAAM? A training that will allow hunters to learn their weapons and their own capabilities and achieve the
sills needed to become a better hunter within those capabilities. The participants train on “Situational Hunting
Courses” ranging from 100-500 yards in varying environmental and terrain conditions. SAAM teaches its participants to become better hunters by acquiring the
knowledge to develop the skills and get the practice to be more confident.

2010 Texas 4-H Golf Challenge
What: Contest based on your Golf Score, Quiz (Sports Nutrition, Turf Grass/Golf Course Management, Golf
Rules/Etiquette), On Course Scenerios. (Study guide available at: http://d24‐h.tamu.edu/)
When: June 17, 2010 Tee‐off is at 9:00 a.m. sharp
Where: Meadowbrook Golf Course, Lubbock, TX
Who: Open to all Intermediate & Senior age 4‐Her’s across the state.
Entry Fee: $20 per person or $60 per team (3 members) ‐ Fee includes 9 holes of golf, cart (2 carts per team), bucket of
range balls, and lunch.

2010 ‐ 2011 District 10 4‐H Council
Qualified delegates interested in seeking a Council office must apply by mail. Applications are available at the Extension Office and must be mailed to the District Office in Uvalde. The applications must be postmarked by May 1st. Elections will be held at Leadership Lab in June. Please call the Extension Office to check for eligibility
& to get the applications and required documents list.
2010 National Congress After a very successful trip to the 2009 National 4‐H Congress it is that time for applications for 2010. National 4‐H Congress is the flagship event of the National 4‐H Program. Each year 4‐Hers ages 14‐19 come from around the U.S. as well as Puerto Rico to attend Congress and participate in
fun and exciting leadership opportunities. During this 5 day event community leaders, speakers, and educators present the most current and timely information available. The 2010 National 4‐H Congress will take place
November 25 ‐ 30th in Atlanta, Georgia. The cost for youth to participate is $1400. Online applications will open on 4‐H CONNECT starting February 1, 2010 and close on April 16, 2010. The Texas 4‐H and Youth Development
Program strongly encourages all youth between the ages of 14 and 18 to apply. For more information on attending National Congress go online:

Registration for the Texas AgriLife Extension Services’ Texas Brigades Camps this summer has begun!!!!!!!
Youth are taught leadership skills and natural resources conservation at the camps, each of which are limited to 20‐30 students from ages 13‐17. The camps are designed to develop life skills such as critical thinking and team‐building through fun and interesting activities. Participation in the Brigade camps offer youth a chance to get not only a taste for such careers, but also to develop a network of
contacts who can help them achieve their career goals. Camp dates and locations:

2010 Youth Range Workshop, June 20‐25
This workshop is open to all those who have an interest in practical range ecology, ranch & natural resource management. It will provide knowledge & understanding in the following areas; land stewardship, range
ecology, plant growth, plant‐soil‐water relations, primary & secondary plant succession, watershed management, livestock & wildlife needs, tools of range & natural resource management, prescribed
burning, the impact of management decisions on the range resource, & the landowner. An intensive 6 days of hands‐on training & learning from range professionals throughout the state will provide curriculum
reinforcement, visual examples & opportunities to learn skills in plant identification, plant collecting, plant species composition, total resource planning, stocking rate determinations, estimating forage standing
crops, & estimating brush densities & ecological trend. The workshop will be conducted at the Texas Tech University Campus in Junction, Texas. Only 40 youth will be accepted to the workshop. Please contact the

21st Annual 4-H Team Roping School June 24-27 at South Plains College in Levelland
This school will be directed at the development of roping and horsemanship skills of youngsters 12 years old to 18. The cost of the school will be $300 per student plus a $25 stall deposit. This includes meals from Thursday evening through Sun-
day breakfast, 3 nights lodging, instruction, insurance, a cattle charge and re-freshments. The $25 stall deposit will be refunded at the end of the school if
your stall and tack room are clean and pass inspection. The school will be limited to 30 participants on a first-come, first-serve basis.
