At Kenworth, we’re always enhancing products to help you improve your bottom line. Kenworth recently expanded the award-winning T880 with a set-forward configuration—the T880S—specially designed for fleet and truck operators in ready-mix, dump and mobile crane applications where every incremental pound of payload delivered contributes directly to the bottom line (p. 4).

This year, nearly 50 percent of Kenworth trucks delivered to customers are powered by PACCAR MX engines, with the number of MX engines in opera-tion in North America expected to reach 135,000 by year-end, a testament to the strong adoption level. PACCAR will launch exciting new power, torque and fuel efficiency enhancements to its MX-13 and MX-11 engines for North America in 2017. The new engines, designed to deliver optimum performance, durability, fuel economy, and the lowest total cost of ownership, will be available in January 2017 (p. 5).

In January, PACCAR will also launch the proprietary PACCAR tandem axle. Rated at 40,000 lbs., the new PACCAR Axle will be the industry’s lightest and most efficient axle in its class. The new PACCAR Axle reduces vehicle weight by up to 150 pounds and is designed to improve the operating efficiency for line haul, regional haul and pick-up and delivery customers (p. 5).

Other new product enhancements include the FlowBelow™ Tractor AeroKit™, a T680 option that further optimizes fuel economy, and cab temperature monitoring within the Kenworth power manage-ment system to enhance the comfort of T680 and T880 trucks. Early next year, Kenworth will offer the Cummins Westport ISL G Near Zero NOx emissions natural gas engine for the T680 and T880 (p. 19).

New innovations also extend to customer ser-vice and support. Read how PremierCare® Gold Certified Papé Kenworth helps keep customers’ fleets rolling reliably and on-time (p. 11). To help drive uptime, Kenworth TruckTech+ and the PACCAR Solutions portal will add a service man-agement system in 2017 powered by Decisiv, which will allow customers to monitor service status of

their Kenworth trucks in real-time (p. 4).

The World’s Best® products and services keep getting bet-ter. That’s our promise to you.

4 World’s Best

Kenworth has expanded the award-winning T880 with a set-forward front axle configuration.

Named the T880S, the new configuration is especially designed for fleet and truck operators in ready-mix, dump and mobile crane applications where every incremental pound of payload delivered contributes directly to the bottom line, and excellent maneuverability and visibility are valued.

Available with a 114-inch BBC and best-in-class 28-inch bumper setting, tare weight is minimized, weight distribution is optimized, Federal Bridge Formula can easily be met, and body installations are enhanced. The bumper setting is espe-cially important in spec’ing Bridge Formula chassis required to stay under the 40-foot length limit. Also offered are 29.5-inch and 31.5-inch bumper settings. Truck operators can specify the mixer tapered (114-inch BBC), dump tapered (115.5-inch BBC) or straight box bumpers (117.5-inch BBC) in a variety of finishes and materials. Removable and cast center-mounted tow hooks are available, depending on bumper selection.

The new T880S is available with a set-forward front axle rang-ing from 14,600 pounds to 22,800 pounds. Single, tandem or tridem drive axles and a wide variety of factory-installed

lift axles, are among a range of options available to meet the most demanding jobsite requirements. The T880 and T880S also provide clear back-of-cab options that make it easy to configure the truck body, handle extreme loads and make it easier for body upfitting.

The T880 and T880S are standard with the 12.9-liter PACCAR MX-13 engine, which provides up to 510-hp and 1,850 lb-ft of torque. For weight-sensitive applications, the 10.8-liter PACCAR MX-11 engine saves 400 pounds compared to a 13-liter engine and is well-suited for ready-mix trucks.

The new Kenworth TruckTech+ Service Management System will help drive uptime by speeding service and repair at Kenworth dealerships. Currently, new Kenworth Class 8 trucks are equipped with Kenworth TruckTech+ Remote Diagnostics, which enables fleets to view real-time vehicle health in the PACCAR Solutions por-tal. In 2017, Kenworth will expand TruckTech+ and the PACCAR Solutions portal to include a service management system powered by Decisiv, which will allow fleets to moni-tor the service status for their individual trucks in real-time.

Kenworth TruckTech+ Service Management will also provide detailed chassis information, parts catalogs, service bulletins, parts and service promotions, as well as warranty and repair history to service technicians at Kenworth dealerships, helping them resolve issues more quickly and efficiently.

TruckTech+ Service Management takes the connected truck to the next level by giving Kenworth customers not only visibility to the health of their trucks, but also transpar ency and real-time information during service events. By partnering with Decisiv to develop the

Service Management capability within the Kenworth TruckTech+ suite of connected vehicle solutions—and by providing Kenworth dealers’ technicians with these industry-leading tools—Kenworth is applying the latest new tech nologies to maximize customer uptime.

Kenworth trucks equipped with TruckTech+ will provide critical information to the dealer service departments and PacLease franchises at check-in, reducing some of the manual data entry required with trucks not equipped with TruckTech+ Remote Diagnostics. The back-office integration between TruckTech+ Remote Diagnostics and Service Management will offer additional value-added data sharing for these chassis.

World’s Best 5

PACCAR is launching exciting new power, torque and fuel efficiency enhancements to its MX-13 and MX-11 engines for North America. The new engines will be available in January 2017. The PACCAR MX-13 and MX-11 engines are designed to deliver optimum perfor-mance, durability, fuel economy, and the lowest total cost of ownership for customers.

PACCAR increased the MX-13 engine’s output to 510 hp and 1,850 lb.-ft. of torque and increased the MX-11 engine’s output to 430 hp and 1,650 lb.-ft. of torque. The enhanced PACCAR MX-11 engine also adds a new 335 hp and 1,150 lb.-ft. torque rating in the lower end of the power range. PACCAR’s MX engines deliver peak torque at 900 RPM for the majority of engine ratings, supporting increased performance and driving flexibility.

PACCAR designs MX engines to an industry-leading B10 life of one million miles. This means 90 percent of the PACCAR MX-13 and MX-11 engines are expected to reach one million miles without the need for a major overhaul. Each PACCAR MX engine also comes standard with fac-tory installed remote diagnostics to deliver proactive cus-tomer support. This translates into low cost of ownership and superior uptime for truck owners.

The 2017 PACCAR MX-13 and MX-11 engines include a new single cylinder air compressor, variable displace-ment oil pump, and variable speed coolant pump provid-

ing customers with fuel economy gains over the previous engine design. The latest PACCAR MX-13 and MX-11 engines extend oil and fuel filter change intervals from 60,000 miles to 75,000 miles, a significant cost savings for customers over the life of the vehicle. PACCAR MX-13 and MX-11 engines now utilize a single canister aftertreat-ment system that reduces weight by 100 lbs., improves serviceability and lengthens service intervals.

“PACCAR will have 135,000 PACCAR MX engines in operation in North America by year end. Nearly 50 percent of our trucks delivered to customers in North America this year will be powered by a PACCAR MX engine,” says Landon Sproull, PACCAR vice president. “This strong adoption level is a testament to the out-standing performance, durability, fuel economy and low cost of service delivered by the PACCAR MX-13 and MX-11 engines.”

PACCAR is launching a new proprietary tandem axle that is the industry’s lightest and most efficient axle in its class. “PACCAR is pleased to deliver the most fuel efficient axle in the industry to complement the superior performance and fuel economy of our PACCAR MX Engines,” says Landon Sproull, PACCAR vice president.

The new PACCAR Axle is designed to improve the operating efficiency for line haul, regional haul and pick-up and delivery customers. The new axle is rated at 40,000 pounds, supporting a gross combination weight of 80,000 lbs. Kenworth will begin offering the axle to customers in January 2017. PACCAR Axles reduce vehicle weight by up to 150 pounds, and provide improved fuel economy.

The PACCAR Axle features a unique pinion-through-shaft design that simplifies power flow in the axle for maximum efficiency. It also incorporates an innovative laser-welded carrier design that reduces weight and improves fuel economy. The PACCAR Axle comes with an industry-leading warranty of five years or 750,000 miles, and offers ratios from 2.47 to 3.70 with engine torque compatibility up to 1,650 lb.-ft. and multi-torque rating compatibility up to 1,750 lb.-ft.

Serving the food and beverage industry across 48 states, Navajo Express has a well-deserved reputation for excellent service and on-time deliveries. Based in Denver, Colo., this long-time Kenworth customer stresses that any success it has achieved rests on the hard work and day-to-day commitment of its drivers.

“When our drivers succeed, we all succeed,” says Navajo Express President Don Digby Jr., whose father, Don Digby Sr., founded the company 36 years ago. “By giving drivers the right equipment that won’t break down, by giving them a quality cab and sleeper where they are comfortable driving and resting, they can have success.”

Drivers come first To help recruit and retain top drivers, Navajo began purchasing Kenworth T680 76-inch sleepers in 2014. It now operates 437 T680s with the PACCAR MX-13 engine. “The T680 with PACCAR engine has been a very good truck for us with its aerodynamic fuel efficiency and, more importantly, the comfort it provides our drivers,” says Digby. “If you want the best drivers, you better have the best equipment. For us, Kenworth was a simple choice.”

Today the Navajo fleet has grown to 831 trucks, including 700 Kenworths. Navajo driver Charlie Hamilton got his new T680 about nine months ago. “It’s a smooth ride, comfortable cab and one of the quieter trucks I’ve ever driven,” says Hamilton, now in his 17th year with Navajo. “Yesterday’s run I finished at 8.2 miles per gallon* hauling 33,000 lbs. So far I’ve put 124,000 miles on the truck and have had no issues, zero downtime.”

On this particular day, Digby notes, 18 trucks are down system wide. “None of them are Kenworths,” he says. “The T680s and PACCAR MX-13 engine are proven reliable.” So much so that Navajo will be purchasing up to 225 additional Kenworth T680s in 2017. Digby especially appreciates the power, performance, fuel efficiency and reliability of the PACCAR MX-13 engine. “Our drivers prefer the MX engine because it’s considerably quieter,”

says Digby. “They’re standing in line waiting for the PACCAR MX-13.”

Spec’d for comfort, reliability Navajo specs its T680s with many additional driver-friendly features like the Bendix® Wingman® Advanced™ system that delivers adaptive cruise control with braking features along with collision mitigation technology that can help drivers in collisions, potential rollovers, and loss-of-control situations.

“We believe the T680 is the best truck on the road with features like the automatic-unlocking fifth wheel to limit the exposure of the driver’s rotator cuff,” says Digby. “These things are important to us and to our drivers.”

When it comes time to spec new trucks, Navajo looks to its dealer, MHC Kenworth – Denver, for assistance. “We like to try new things, the latest and greatest in terms of driver

comfort,” says Digby. “MHC is a true partner at bringing new ideas and new visions to the table. Plus, MHC Kenworth blankets the United States with coverage and is really

able to help our drivers with any situation.” Hamilton adds, “I haven’t been inside a dealer since I got my T680. It runs really well, smooth and quiet, and no downtime.”

Kenworth is the driver’s truck for comfort and reliability. Concludes Digby, “We give our drivers the best piece of equipment on the road, to make sure they can achieve success. At the end of the day, they want to drive Kenworth.”

*Individual fuel economy improvement will vary depending on use, road conditions and other factors.

For Tucci & Sons, enhancing productivity, driver comfort and safety is the name of the game when it comes to delivering asphalt. And with the new Kenworth T880 Super Dump, it’s a game Tim Tucci fully expects his family’s Tacoma, Washington-based heavy construction business to win.

“We’ve found that in many cases our new Kenworth T880 Super Dumps can haul up to 10 percent more asphalt in a single day than the dump trucks and end-dump trailers they replaced,” says Tucci, who serves as the company’s secretary/treasurer and fleet operations manager.

When drivers deliver asphalt using a dump truck and end-dump trailer, they must first empty the end-dump trailer. Then, they must get out of the truck, unhitch the trailer, dump the load in the bed of the dump truck, and then re-hitch the end-dump trailer to the truck before they can return to the plant. Tucci says since that entire process can take anywhere from 20 minutes to half hour for each delivery, the company can add back one to two hours’ worth of revenue-generating productivity each day. After all, Tucci & Sons does not make money when its trucks aren’t moving, he says.

“Drivers in our new T880 Super Dumps can deliver their loads to the job sites, dump them and then go right back to our Lakewood or Tacoma plant for another load,” he says.

Bigger payloads, great maneuverability Tucci worked with Kenworth Northwest to choose the specifications for the company’s first two Kenworth T880s compliant with federal bridge formula requirements for lift axle spacing and capacity. Both T880 Super Dumps achieve their 25-ton capacity through the use of three 8,000-pound W&C Tru-Track Super Alumilite steerable lift axles and an 8,000-pound steerable “flying tag” axle. The T880s are specified with the PACCAR MX-13 engine rated at 500-hp and 1,850 lb-ft of torque.

The additional axles increase the truck’s gross combination vehicle weight to 80,000 pounds by spreading the weight over more axles, which is permitted under an alternative federal bridge formula used by the state of Washington.

The truck, with a 256-inch wheelbase, measures 40 feet from the front bumper to the rear steerable pusher axle. That’s considerably shorter than the 75-foot length of the tractor and end dump trailer units the T880 Super Dumps replaced. That makes the T880 Super Dumps more maneuverable. And the company doesn’t have to use transfer trucks to deliver asphalt to paving projects in tighter urban areas.

Drivers love them Since his grandfather, Michael Tucci, started the family business in 1950, Tim says Tucci & Sons has always tried to choose trucks that can offer employees a comfortable and productive work environment. Today, the company runs a fleet consisting of 15 tractors and end-dump trailers, six transfer trucks and six water tenders in addition to the two T880 Super Dumps that the company acquired in May. Nearly all of the trucks are Kenworths.

“The T880 is a phenomenal truck that offers the latest in technology for improved driver comfort and productivity,” Tucci says. “Our drivers love them. And that’s really important to our company for attracting and retaining the best drivers.

We’re certainly going to be getting more of these T880 Super Dumps when it comes time to replace our other dump trucks and end-dumps.”

Papé Kenworth, led by president Dave Laird, has a vision for the kind of service Central Oregon Truck Co. (COTC) and other customers need for their trucks while they’re travel-ing. “It’s really no secret—if their trucks have an issue on the road, our customers want to know what the problem is, they want it fixed quickly, and they don’t want to sweat the unknowns,” Laird says.

While COTC chief executive officer, Rick Williams, likes that vision, he likes how Papé Kenworth executes it even more. “Papé Kenworth makes the whole process of sched-uling service and repairs, and obtaining updates, seamless,” Williams says.

With long-haul, regional and dedicated transportation services to all 48 states and Canada, COTC has the drivers and equipment to get the job done right and on time. With 250 Kenworth trucks, COTC partners with Papé Kenworth to manage problems on the road and to help choose the right specs for their T680s to maximize driver comfort, fuel efficiency and effective use of technologies.

Solving problems with TruckTech+ “We’ve been very happy with the performance of our new-est Kenworth T680s equipped with PACCAR MX-13 engines,

Kenworth Idle Management, Kenworth TruckTech+ and Bendix® Wingman® Fusion™,” says Phil Taylor, COTC vice president of maintenance. When trucks need repairs or service on the road, the Kenworth TruckTech+ remote diag-nostics system, which came standard on COTC’s newest Kenworth T680s, makes the job easier. TruckTech+ delivers a powerful tool to technicians to help them better manage any fault codes that may be triggered from time-to-time.

“The system interprets the fault codes and then provides us information and recommended actions based on the severity of the issue,” Taylor says. “We can then determine whether the issue requires immediate attention or if our driver can continue driving, satisfy the load and have the problem addressed immediately afterwards or when the driver returns to the company’s headquarters.”

TruckTech+, which COTC dispatchers and managers access via a web portal, displays a variety of information such as engine speed and temperature, ambient temperature, and

exhaust gas temperature. It also provides a map that displays the locations of the company’s trucks. “No matter what day or time we call, Papé Kenworth makes it all seamless for us,” says Taylor. “That’s good because our expertise is in hauling building materials and heavy equipment on flatbeds safely and on-time.”

2015 Dealer of the Year Papé Kenworth’s service coordination for COTC helped it to earn the company’s gratitude and Kenworth’s 2015 Dealer of the Year award. “I wasn’t surprised at all when Kenworth announced Papé Kenworth as its Dealer of the Year,” says Williams. “Papé Kenworth is a great partner to our company.” Not surprisingly, Papé Kenworth is one of Kenworth’s leading dealers in the PremierCare® Gold Certified program and is dedicated to providing the ultimate Kenworth experience on the West Coast with locations throughout California, Oregon, and Washington.

When you’re in the business of hauling recyclables and trash, every pound counts. For Ecology Recycling and Transportation Services, lightweight specs are a recipe for success. The latest example is a transfer dump contract the company received in the Phoenix area.

“Contract waste hauling is a very competitive business, which requires very accurate cost accounting and revenue projections,” says Greg Evans, equipment maintenance manager for Ecology. “It comes down to who can haul the most trash at the lowest cost.”

Ecology, with a fleet of more than 600 trucks, is the larg-est company west of the Mississippi that provides truck-ing and transportation services for bulk waste and recy-clables. The company has purchased 450 Kenworth trucks since 2010 through Inland Kenworth in Montebello, Calif.

To help get the contract hauling waste from transfer sta-tions in Phoenix to landfills between 80 and 120 miles

away, Ecology has done more with less by reducing weight in its new Kenworth T880 tractors and trailers. “All told, we decreased weight by about 2,000 pounds, as com-pared to other combinations we’ve run in the past,” says Evans. “The biggest contributor was going with the PACCAR MX-11 engine, which is 400 pounds lighter than a 13-liter engine. We have always been believers in the PACCAR MX-13 engine, and run those with great success in California with our Kenworths. But, with the new PACCAR MX-11 engine, we can save weight and have comparable performance. What’s more, our drivers really love being behind the wheel of the T880.”

When petroleum hauler Dixon Bros. wanted to save weight, haul more payload, and enhance productivity, the new Kenworth 40-inch sleep-er became the company’s choice for its T880 tractors.

“We haul primarily gas and diesel to convenience stores, coal mines, and airports, and also transport propane to wholesalers. Most of our runs are 250 or fewer miles one-way, but we do go as far as 500 miles—and we do run into Canada,” says Jim Dixon, who founded Dixon Bros. 56 years ago in Newcastle, Wyo.

Dixon Bros. operates 120 power units, nearly all Kenworths. When Kenworth launched the 40-inch sleeper last fall, Dixon was quick to recognize the potential benefits. “We run some Kenworth T880 52-inch sleeper combinations and had to obtain special permitting to

run in Canada because of our overall length. With the smaller sleeper we saved 12 inches to reach a 244-inch wheelbase, which allows us to run legal in Canada,” Dixon says.

The trucks feature 525-hp engines and 13-speed automated transmissions. The higher horsepower engines are needed since combination weights can reach as high as 129,000 pounds in Montana

and Idaho. “We wanted the 40-inch sleeper so our spec would work in all areas and regions. It also offers additional payload opportunities with a 260-pound weight savings compared to the 52-inch sleeper,” says Dixon, whose drivers might use the sleeper once a week, “or it could be once a month—overall pretty minimal,” he says. “But, we need the 40-inch sleeper just for that, the occasional night’s sleep. It’s also a safeguard for bunk time in bad weather.”

Rich Halbersleben knows that when he calls his local Kenworth dealership with questions about his fleet’s Kenworth trucks, he’ll get answers quickly.“When I call with something I need, my sales representative usually gets me an answer within 45 minutes, or lets me know when to expect one. And when my drivers walk into a Kenworth Sales Company dealership, I know they can get answers from the person standing right in front of them. It’s certainly appreciated when we receive the same high level of responsive service from Kenworth Sales Company that our shippers expect from us,” says Halbersleben, the managing partner of Halbersleben Trucking.

The truckload carrier hauls various freight in dry van and refrigerated trailers across the continental United States, with a focus on the Western United States and Upper Midwest. Its fleet of 60 trucks are predominantly Kenworth, including 20 Kenworth T680s with 76-inch sleepers and PACCAR MX-13 engines purchased from Kenworth Sales Company. Based in Salt Lake City, Halbersleben also has a large Phoenix operations hub and a terminal in Boise, Idaho, and maintains a strong presence in South Dakota and Minnesota.

Halbersleben Trucking is just one example of the dealership’s outstanding customer support. As a result of its overall efforts, Kenworth Sales Company – Salt Lake City is among the Kenworth dealers that have achieved the prestigious Kenworth PremierCare® Gold Certified status. Under the Gold Certified program, certified dealers go above and beyond industry standards to help fleets and truck operators maximize uptime with a range of premium services.

“TruckTech+ takes the blinders off when it comes to issues with trucks on the road,” says Kevin Henggeler, director of maintenance for Tribe Transportation, about the Kenworth TruckTech+ remote diagnostics system. “It gives us a tool so we can make informed decisions on what to do should a fault code go off. We could never run trucks that don’t have the system—the information is that important to us.”

Tribe Transportation, based in Gainesville, Ga., runs more than 200 Kenworth T680s with 76-inch sleepers. Spec’d with the PACCAR MX-13 engine, each new truck comes equipped with Kenworth TruckTech+, which processes fault codes and provides vital information on vehicle status so fleet managers can make informed decisions.

“We’re seeing the future with TruckTech+ and are big believ-ers in how remote diagnostics will improve our uptime,” says Todd Gooch, vice president of Tribe. “It’s doing it already. Email alerts come to Kevin’s team in our maintenance depart-ment and they know immediately what’s wrong with the truck so there is no time lost trying to figure out what’s happen-ing. This saves us a lot of time and gets us back on the road faster,” he says. “TruckTech+ is adding to our uptime, and thus our on-time delivery rate. We’ve had great success with the T680 in reducing costs, improving fuel economy, and it’s helped keep our driver turnover rate among the lowest in the industry. We will be a 100 percent T680 fleet by year-end.”

Gary Amoth remembers his first trip in a Kenworth truck. It was 1967 and he was accompanying his uncle as he drove a brand new Kenworth from the dealership in Spokane back to their home in Idaho. Now, Amoth has embarked on what he’s sure will be not just a memorable trip in a brand new Kenworth T680, but the haul of a lifetime. Instead of a load of building products or an overseas container his company’s trucks usually pull, he’s hauling an 80-foot Engelmann Spruce from the Payette National Forest. The tree will be set up on the U.S. Capitol’s West Lawn. The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree tour will make 27 stops on its 4,000-mile trek to Washington, D.C.

This trip, which began in early November, will be the longest journey in his 33-year career as a truck driver and the owner of Twin Falls-based Gary Amoth Trucking, which operates a fleet of 125 trucks. “This trip has been absolutely amazing,” Amoth says. “It’s wonderful watching all the people show up to catch a glimpse of the Capitol Christmas Tree through the trailer’s 15-foot long viewing window. Our truck with its bright red paint and beautiful graphics certainly gets lots of attention. I am proud to be hauling “The People’s Tree.”

According to Amoth, the choice of his company as the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree hauler has been a testament to his entire staff. “It’s really been quite an honor for us all to be chosen to deliver this very important national symbol of unity,” Amoth says.

Spec’d for performance and comfort Amoth says his company’s new Kenworth T680 features many things his uncle would have dreamed of having in his Kenworth — a comfortable 76-inch sleeper, fuel-efficient 485-hp PACCAR MX-13 engine, Eaton Fuller Advantage™ 10-speed automated transmission, and the new PACCAR Axle, the industry’s most efficient and lightest weight tandem drive axle. The truck utilizes Kenworth’s T680 Advantage configuration, and has new aerodynamic fairings now standard on the T680. “So far, I have really enjoyed driving this Kenworth T680,” Amoth says. “The engine is quiet and with the automated trans-mission my shoulder feels great at the end of the day.

The Diamond VIT interior and the heated Ultraleather Kenworth GT702 driver seat make for a very comfortable driving environment, which helps me to stay focused. The forward lighting system is fantastic and the visibility through the panoramic windshield makes a big differ-ence when you’re maneuvering and parking an 80-foot trailer.”

Gary Amoth Trucking strives to provide its drivers with comfortable and attractive equipment. “Providing our drivers with what I would want to drive has been a crucial part of our driver recruitment and retention strategy,” Amoth says. “We try very hard to take good care of our drivers. That’s why we almost always have them home on the weekends. And we provide them trucks that are a pleasure to drive.”

Introducing Two New T680 Advantage PackagesNew T680 Advantage with 52-inch Mid-Roof Sleeper, and New T680 Advantage Day Cab

Kenworth introduces two new fuel-efficient T680 Advantage packages: the Kenworth T680 Advantage with the 52-inch mid-roof sleeper, and the T680 Advantage Day Cab. Both configurations include the 2016 PACCAR MX-13 engine or PACCAR MX-11 engine and the Eaton Fuller Advantage™ series 10-speed automated transmission, combined with fuel-efficient Meritor MT40-14X drive axles rated at 40,000 lbs., Kenworth Driver Performance Assistant, Kenworth Predictive Cruise Control, Kenworth Neutral Coast, and FlowBelow™ wheel covers.

The Kenworth T680 Advantage Package with the 52-inch mid-roof sleeper for regional haul and less-than truckload operations features additional new aerodynamic elements that help redirect airflow around the chassis and sleeper to further enhance fuel economy. These include a front air dam to redirect air around versus under the tractor,

mini-kickout fairings to force air around the trailer and drive tires, and lower fairing extenders. The Kenworth T680 Advantage Day Cab also includes new aero-dynamic treatments designed to further reduce aerodynamic drag and improve fuel economy, including a front air dam, roof

cap “bulb” seal, lower fairing extensions, lower fairing closeouts, and FlowBelow™ wheel covers.

Both T680 Advantage with 52-inch mid-roof sleeper and T680 Advantage Day Cab packages offer up to a 6 percent fuel economy benefit* compared to their respective non-optimized Kenworth T680 configurations with the previous generation of PACCAR MX-13 engine, Eaton Fuller automated transmission, and standard drive axles.

*Individual fuel economy improvement will vary depending on use, road conditions and other factors.

Already offered with heavy duty 16,000-lb, 18,000-lb. and 20,000-lb. front axles, now the Kenworth T370 is adding a durable straight steel channel bumper, larger size 385/65R22.5 steer tires, and rugged, molded thermoplastic fender extensions to benefit vocational customers. The heavy front axles can be paired with 46,000-lb. rear axles to create specifications ideally suited for vocational applications, such as dump, fuel delivery, utility, crane, service trucks, or mixers. The T370 is available with Meritor or Dana non-drive front steer axles rated from 16,000- to 20,000-lb. and 44,000- and 46,000-lb. heavy duty tandem-drive rear axles. The T370 can be spec’d with the PACCAR PX-9 engine rated up to 350-hp and 1,150 lb-ft of torque.

Kenworth will add the Bendix® Wingman® Advanced™ system as an option for the medium duty Kenworth T270 and T370. Bendix Wingman Advanced is a radar-based collision mitigation system that delivers adaptive cruise control with braking, along with autonomous emergency braking technology to help drivers mitigate rear-end collisions. Using a radar sensor mounted to the front of the vehicle, Bendix Wingman Advanced

delivers both warning alerts to drivers and active interventions. The system provides following distance, impact and stationary object alerts, which are always available—whether or not cruise control is engaged. When drivers engage cruise control and set speed, the system will actively intervene to help them maintain a safe following distance behind a forward vehicle by reducing throttle; engaging the engine retarder; or, if necessary, applying the foundation brakes.

Earlier this fall at the 2016 American Trucking Associations (ATA) Management Conference and Exhibition in Las Vegas, Kenworth announced new product enhancements. Kenworth and FlowBelow partnered to develop the FlowBelow™ Tractor AeroKit™ as a Kenworth T680 option. Consisting of an AeroKit fairing fitted on each side of the truck between the Kenworth T680’s tandem axles, along with a fairing directly behind the rear drive axle. The system also uses stylish, quick-release aerodynamic wheel covers designed to reduce turbulence within the wheel itself to help customers optimize fuel economy.

The industry-leading Kenworth power management system, available on T680 and T880 models, has added cab temperature monitoring to its Auto Start and Stop capability. If the truck is not outfitted with Kenworth’s Idle Management System or another APU, as the outside temperature rises, the system will start the main engine to support cab and sleeper air conditioning needs. Kenworth also offers the Espar Airtronic D4 fuel-fired bunk heater. For engine-off, constant heat in the sleeper, the new D4 has a BTU rating up to 13,650, nearly double Espar’s previous generation heater, and is available for the Kenworth T680 and T880 specified with either the 76-inch or 52-inch sleepers.

In early 2017, Kenworth will also offer the Cummins Westport ISL G Near Zero NOx emissions natural gas engine for the Kenworth T680 and T880. Emissions from the ISL G

Near Zero natural gas engine are 90 percent lower than the current NOx limit of 0.2 gram per brake horsepower-hour, and meet the 2017 EPA greenhouse gas emission reduction requirements. The 8.9-liter natural gas engine comes with ratings up to 320 hp and 1,000 lb-ft of torque.

The Kenworth Certified Pre-Owned Program was introduced recently in conjunction with the Used Truck Association (UTA) Annual Convention. Exclusive to Kenworth dealers and PACCAR Financial Used Truck Centers, the new pro-gram enables customers to purchase quality, pre-owned and certified Kenworth Class 8 trucks in the United States and Canada. Qualifying Kenworth trucks are late model and low mileage, and will come standard with engine and aftertreat-ment warranty coverage. Each Kenworth vehicle must pass a comprehensive 150-

point inspection, which includes engine, aftertreatment, interior, exterior, chassis, electronics, safety devices, and a road test. Each truck must be certified by a Kenworth dealer technician, carry D.O.T. certification, and receive a full diesel particulate filter (DPF) cleaning, and an oil and filter change. Kenworth trucks are recognized and respected for their excellent quality, fuel efficiency and durability. With the new program’s official launch in January 2017, truck buyers will receive a high level of confidence when buying

pre-owned Kenworths that have undergone thorough inspections and are certified according to Kenworth’s high standards. Customers will be able to search for Kenworth Certified Pre-Owned trucks on the www.kenworth.com homepage. Information will include detailed vehicle specifications and photos, and dealer location.

Russell Hardy (Trimac Transportation), Kevin Scott (TMC Transportation) and Troy Davidson (Werner Enterprises) are the three top finalists in the “Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence” recognition program (www.transitiontrucking.org), which recognizes America’s top rookie military drivers. “The caliber and professionalism of all those who were nominated in the award program is inspiring. One of these three deserving candidates will drive away in the ultimate ‘Driver’s Truck’—the Kenworth T680,” says Jason Skoog, Kenworth assistant general manager for sales and marketing. The winner—who will be announced December 16 at the Pentagon—will receive a fully-loaded T680 with a 76-inch sleeper and a PACCAR MX-13 engine, courtesy of Kenworth. The contest is a joint effort of the U.S Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes Program, Kenworth and Fastport.

When it comes to community service, it’s hard to outdo the accomplishments of Idaho Youth Ranch (IYR), which served over 2,000 at-risk children in 2015 from proceeds of its 29 thrift stores in Idaho. Several years ago, IYR turned to Kenworth Sales PacLease to support them in reducing maintenance and operational costs so they could invest those savings into helping kids in need. Not only did PacLease help them achieve operating savings of more than 20%, but their new 15 Kenworth T270 box vans gave them additional fuel savings and improved driver retention. According to Gregg Crow, Director of Distribution, “These trucks have made it possible for us to keep our drivers, who are our ambassadors in the community. I credit our full-service lease with PacLease for helping us to hang on to our drivers.”
