Today’s world needs professionals prepared to solve global challenges related to agribusiness, climate change, a safe and reliable food supply, protection of natural resources, improved nutrition, public health, and alternative energy sources.

The baccalaureate degree program in Agriculture, Food, and Environment has four options:

Option in Agricultural Systems requires the courses:• Agricultural Economics and Marketing • Soil Science• Environmental Entomology • Agriculture and EnergyAcceptable option electives include:• Organic Agriculture • Ornamental and Landscape Plants• Urban Agriculture • Introduction to Geographic Information Systems

Global ecological problems such as climate change, species and habitat loss, soil, air and water pollution, and food safety and quality will be among the biggest challenges of the next millennium. The search for solutions will demand creative and holistic thinking. The Master of Science in Environmental Studies program helps train graduates who can make the necessary connections between disciplines for applied problem solving.

The MES program takes and interdisciplinary and experiential learning approach to the study of human interactions with the environment. Traditional and non-traditional students enter the MES program in the thesis or Capstone options from a range of backgrounds including physical and natural sciences, social sciences, engineering, education, and state employment.

Kentucky State University is home to one of the top aquaculture programs in the United States. Known for its innovative research, KSU supports aquaculture initiatives across Kentucky. The KSU Division of Aquaculture is the university’s Program of Distinction and the region’s only full-service aquaculture program offering opportunities in teaching, research, and extension.

The Division of Aquaculture offers many education options at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. We offer an undergraduate Certificate Degree in Aquaculture/Aquatic Sciences, which requires a minimum of 12 credit hours of aquaculture coursework and can be earned completely online. There is also an Aquaculture Systems option as part of the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Food, and Environment (see page 4). KSU also offers the Master of Science in Aquaculture/Aquatic Sciences with a thesis or non-thesis option.

The Division of Aquaculture has the largest offering of online aquaculture courses in the U.S. at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. More than 700 students from 40 states and 27 countries have taken online classes through our aquaculture program.

ADMISSIONS

For admission, you must submit an application online or in paper to the university along with the following:

• Official high school transcript with cumulative GPA and courses listed.• Official ACT/SAT test scores• $30 application fee

Admission Requirements:

• 2.5 weighted cumulative GPA or higher• 18 composite on the ACT or 860 (math and reading sections only) on the SAT

FINANCIAL AID

Kentucky State University is affordable with a variety of financial aid options!

• Work Study jobs. The funds for the Federal Work-Study Program are earned by working a part-time job. Receiving this award depends on when you apply for aid, your level of financial need, and availability of funding.

• Scholarships, grants, and student loans. Academic, first-time freshman, and transfer student scholarships are available. To qualify, admission counselors will evaluate each student using their current GPAs and ACT scores.
