BUILDING ACTIVITY ON VILLAGEHALL SITESA temporary suspension of buildingactivity on the new houses on the oldMemorial Hall site during April inevitablygave rise to some speculation as to why.The simple reason was that building hadproceeded so swiftly that it hadoutstripped the agreeing of finalcontractual arrangements to do with thenew village hall and activity had to besuspended. I am pleased to report thatall contracts have now been signed, sealed and delivered and by the timethis newsletter is published activityshould have restarted on building thehouses and over the summer a startshould be made on our new hall. Thistime next year we should be in it!KENNINGHALL NEIGHBOURHOODDEVELOPMENT PLANAt its May meeting the Parish Councildecided to apply to Breckland Council tobecome a Neighbourhood Forum. Thiswill allow the Parish Council, in fullconsultation with Kenninghall residents,to prepare a NeighbourhoodDevelopment Plan (NDP) that willestablish general planning policies forthe development and use of land inKenninghall Parish. The NDP will allowKenninghall to ensure the right type ofdevelopment for the community, although plans must still meet the needsof the wider area. In order to get BT to providecapacity right throughout the village it isimportant to contact your provider andask for it, or contact BT directly. The morepeople without it who do so, the morelikely BT will extend provision. Progressive Lunch – Not ThisYear But Next Year! The Memorial Hall Committee recentlydiscussed this at some length and havedecided regrettably that we will not beorganising a Progressive Lunch thisyear. Given that the meadow and hallsite now have construction work goingon, and problems finding other suitablevenues, we realised we would have tocompletely rethink the whole event, andfelt we had left it too late. However, weare committed to putting on the Lunchnext year, and will start planning for itearly next year. It is an important eventin the village calendar, and fairly uniqueto the village.
If you would consider hosting one of thecourses at next year’s Lunch, or wouldbe willing to volunteer moving furniture, setting up gazebos, helping make food, serve food, wash up, help behind the
bars, tidy up and dismantle gazebosafter the event, then we would love tohear from you. Please contact AnneKay on 01953 888320 so we can startplanning in advance.

Those who walk regularly around the woods will haveexperienced a lovely spring with an abundance of blossom onmany of the trees and shrubs, especially the wild cherries, blackthorn and apples. The pathways have recoveredremarkably quickly from the wet winter and are now firm andgood for walking on. The meadows are now in full growth andwill be rushing into flower in the coming weeks. Please keep
to the pathways so as not to trample the meadows unduly. Please also keep dogsunder control, on a lead if need be!The car parking area along Heath Road in Hemp Meadow Wood is now finishedand provides an excellent all-weather parking place for up to five cars if sensiblyparked. This has been a big effort on behalf of the Trust and we must thank thosewho have made it possible: Kenny Boatman for organising and doing the work;Jacko for doing the driving; David Brown for use of a tractor and trailer; Mark Porterfor the use of a digger and for Miles Yallop for acquiring and transporting the stoneetc. The Trustees are greatly indebted to all those who made this project possibleand seen it through to fruition. The next big event in the Trustʼs calendar is the Mid-summer Event, Saturday June21st. ✄ St Maryʼs Church, Kenninghall PCCAs you are probably aware, we are currently raisingfunds and applying for Grant Aid for urgent repairs toour church roof. As a Grade 1 listed building and abeautiful focal point of the village itʼs important thatthe building should be preserved and, even moreimportantly, that it should be used as much as possible by thecommunity. The PCC would like to ask you for your views on theamenities and use of the church. It is first and foremost a church butcould be used for other functions. If so:
1. Do you believe it could be suitable for other occasions?Have you any suggestions?
2. Are there any other amenities that you feel wouldbenefit and encourage the use of this beautiful building?
