This being the last week of my seven year term with GRSA, I think it appropriate to recap on my time here with GRSA. When I first came here the support I received from the Board chaired by Bob Kennedy was of the highest standard. I wish to take this opportunity to thank Bob Kennedy for giving me the opportunity to work for the Greyhound Racing Industry. The staff that I inherited from the leadership of Shane McQueen was second to none and is, no doubt, the reason GRSA is in the strong position it currently enjoys at present. To the Racing Industry and its participants, I thank those who have supported me, my staff and the Board through good and bad times. There is no doubt in my mind this industry is poised for bigger and better opportunities as the Racing Industry embarks on the changing wagering environment ahead. I thank the current Board for their support and I wish the Greyhound Racing Industry all the best for the future. ONS MANAGER’S REPORT

PRIZEMONEY FOR 2010‐11 Further to last week’s article on the prizemoney for 2010‐2011, following is more detail on the breakdowns: Angle Park - Normal race prizemoney will continue as per the levels that were announced in January.

- The Adelaide Cup has been increased to $96,000 (2010 ‐ $85,000) with the winner to receive $70,000. The Cup needs to pay $75,000 to the winner in 2012 to retain Group 1 status. Interstate Challenge at $12,500.

- All Group 3 races are increased to $30,000 (2010 ‐ $27,500) minimum, with the winner at $20,500. The Oaks & Derby remain at $32,000. In 2011‐12 they will need to pay $25,000 to the winner to retain Group 3 status.

- Other Features are listed at: o Champion Puppy, St Leger ‐ $14,000 o Doug Payne Memorial ‐ $9,000 o State National Finals, John Gray

Memorial, St Pat’s Sprint, Premier’s Cup, McQueen Memorial & Stayers Cup ‐ $7,000

o Distance Prelude, New Year Sprint & Lower Grade Features ‐ $4,000

- Wednesday matinee race meetings now budgeted for 10 race programs instead of 8 races.

- All meetings to carry Travel Rebates (as per January 2010).

- The Gawler Cup, a Group 3 event, increased to $30,000. This is in line with other Group events. The Cup will now feature on consecutive Sunday twilights, with the Final on November 7th.

- Sunday meetings paid at Tuesday prizemoney levels.

Maiden Breeders Bonus will continue at $125 for Maiden win. METRO HOLDEN CHAMPION SEMI‐FINALS Tonight sees two Semi‐Finals of the 2010 Metro Holden Champion Puppy. This follows the running of three heats last Wednesday, won by Aston Koen (30.72), Vee Best Vane (29.85) and Mighty Heiress (30.65). The two best performances in the heats came from Vee Best Vane, which won in good style and Yilki, which chased it home.

They clash again in the second Semi and if Yilki jumps a shade better, it could be a very good clash. Semi‐Final number one sees the other heat winners clash in Aston Koen and Mighty Heiress. The latter recently won her Maiden running 30.18 and a repeat of that may make her hard to beat. This series sees quite an inexperienced line‐up, so we can expect to see improvement from some of the runners. The Metro Holden Champion Puppy Final will be run next Thursday 8th July, carrying prizemoney of $14,000. The box draw for the final will take place on track tonight, following race 6. GAWLER PRODUCE STAKE NOMINATIONS A reminder to all trainers with greyhounds paid up for the Gawler Produce Stake this month that you are still required to nominate for the heats on Tuesday 13th July. The semis are listed for Tuesday 20th July and the Final will be held on Sunday 25th July as a twilight Sky Channel meeting. The prizemoney breakdowns will be announced after the number of heats are known, but if we run six heats, the prizemoney total pool will exceed $36,000, including an $18,000 Final. *Nominations for the heats close on Thursday 8th July with GRSA at 9.00am.* PORT AUGUSTA TRANSFER Confirming last week’s advice that the Saturday 10th July Port Augusta fixture has been transferred to Port Pirie as a TAB Sunday Twilight fixture on July 11th. This meeting will have Sky coverage. The Strathalbyn Day meeting on Sunday 11th July will be a non‐Sky TAB meeting.

MOUNT GAMBIER TAB START DELAYED Trainers should also note that the meeting listed for this Sunday (4th July) at Mount Gambier has reverted to a non‐TAB fixture. This is due to work on the optic fibre DVN not being completed at this stage. While the work has been ordered, Sky Racing is not able to give us a completion date at this stage, we will keep you updated on this. ANGLE PARK TRACK TURNOVER There will be a track turnover at Angle Park, tomorrow (Friday 2nd July). This means that there will be no Saturday morning trials on the 3rd July. As always the turnover will be dependent on suitable weather conditions. AGRA GROUP RACE CALENDARS The 2010‐2011 AGRA Group Race Calendars are now available from GRSA. There has been a change to the timing of the calendars, which previously were based on the calendar year. However from this year on, the calendars will now be produced to line‐up with the racing season, from July 1st to June 30th. LOCALS INTERSTATE No luck for the South Australian’s last week. Chasers went Wi‐Fi last month and it is great to see that we have already had a high usage of this technology to date. The Wi‐Fi actually works in the whole of Chasers Restaurant and inside the grandstand on western end. We are in negotiations with our Internet Provider – Internode and we will be installing the same system in McQueens Tavern & Gaming to extend this technology to our McQueens Patrons. We will keep you informed on when this is installed. It should be up and running by mid July. SMS TECHNOLOGY

GRSA relies on the internet to communicate with trainers but it can be delayed information as trainers are usually tending to their greyhounds not sitting on the net. SMS technology is a great marketing tool which allows organizations to communicate immediately with mobile phone users. This technology will be implemented next week by GRSA to all trainers who have a mobile phone listed on our database. Primarily, this communication tool will be utilized for nomination changes, ie: extensions. However, SMS text messaging opens up a lot of opportunities and how we utilize it will definitely evolve. We are currently exploring the EDog system with GRV, which provides an SMS to each trainer advising them about the fields, ie: whether their dog has made the field, what race number and the box draw. We will keep you posted on this progress as it comes to hand. IN THE BOX SEAT

She is nicely drawn and should prove hard to beat especially if she can lead. Race 11 No 2 South Central – He had no luck last start when he found trouble and flashed home for an eye catching third last start at Angle Park. TWO GET DOUBLES Sunday’s Gawler meeting again proved a positive one for greyhound enthusiasts. Two trainers went home with training honours for the day. Bruce Lellmann made the long journey from Renmark to compete at the Gawler meeting and went home with a 100% win ratio, with two winners from two runners. Honky Tonk Girl took out the BON honours when she won by 5.5L in 30.82.

Bred by Lellmann the Bombastic Shiraz/Bar Crusher sprinter has now won 5 from just 9 starts along with 2 placings. Litter mate Stack’Em Flat also broke 31.00 on the night and made it a hatrick of wins and just like his sister has the impressive record of 6 wins from 9 starts with 3 placings. These two handy performers continue to be well placed by Bruce and on recent form they will work their way through the grades. SA’s leading TAB trainer, Shaun Matcott’s double kicked off with Melisandra Bale in an Open Maiden but then had to wait until the last event on the programme when Espionage saluted over the 400m. Another handy winner for the day was the ultra consistent Gable La Flash. The Gable La Forche/Bar Flyer chaser has been in the money in 11 from just 13 starts and she looks set to win many more races. Her 30.84 win on Sunday comes on the back of a very handy 2nd behind Stack’Em Flat in the meeting prior in another BOD time. KISS OF DEATH

It’s not any easier to tip winners this week than it was last Thursday night at headquarters. Leading kennel Shaun Matcott should kick off the night with a handy sprinter in Viscount Fawn. He continues to improve and has the pace to lead and win. Satanic Cash will continue on his winning way in the 3rd event. He is yet to miss a cheque over the 600m in 6 starts. He will be short but will get the chocolates.

GRADE 6/ JUVENILE REVIEW A reminder that we are seeking comments from participants as to how the Grade 6/Juvenile changes have effected greyhound racing in SA. In particular any weaknesses or improvements that you may have identified. If you think the system is working well and doesn’t need changing we would also encourage you to let the Panel know this.

While this isn’t a survey as such, the more comments we receive the better the understanding the Panel will get on the industry’s opinion. Bitches ‐ GAP needs to be aware of the last season of the bitch so de‐sexing can be set within safe guidelines to make sure she is out of the “danger zone”. As you know, there is a certain time frame that bitches can be de‐sexed after a season, and we want to make sure all our girls are safely de‐sexed. Dogs – We need to be aware of descended testicles, whether or not both, one or none are there. Most importantly, if a dog has had a testicle(s) removed. This will eliminate any unnecessary searching while the de‐sexing is taking place and will make de‐sexing easier on the boys. SUGGESTIONS OR COMMENTS Do you have any suggestions? RESULT OF INQUIRY Mr. Clarence Christensen Stewards completed an inquiry on 23rd June 2010 into the circumstances relating to the obtaining of a positive urine sample taken from Amy’s Delight which competed in and won race one (1) at the Greyhound Racing SA meeting held at Angle Park on Wednesday 28th April 2010. Mr. Clarence Christensen was charged with a breach of the GRSA Rules of Greyhound Racing R83 which reads:

R83 Greyhound to be free of prohibited substances (2) The owner, trainer or person in charge of a greyhound‐ (a) nominated to compete in an Event; (b) presented for a satisfactory, weight or whelping trial or such other trial as provided for pursuant to these Rules; or (c) presented for any test or examination for the purpose of a period of incapacitation or prohibition being varied or revoked shall present the greyhound free of any prohibited substance. (3) The owner, trainer or person in charge of a greyhound presented contrary to sub‐rule (2) shall be guilty of an offence. (4) A greyhound presented for an Event contrary to sub‐rule (2) shall be disqualified from the Event or any benefit derived from a trial or test. Angle Park last night Best of the night was Kimberley Jinx for Gavin Harris who went 4.57, 17.21,30.23. Ray Murray trialled a black bitch who went 4.58, 17.26, 30.28. Viva La Emma who finished third was also an eye catching run coming from a long way back. Margins ¾ x 2 ½ time for the 512 metre final 30.80.

With everybody’s toes curled up with the cold, coursing got underway with a good 8 event program. Shaun Laffin’s Sparrow Baz returned to coursing with his usual zest when defeating Barry Jones’ Slipper’s Tonic in 15.21 in the Kennard’s Hire Open Stake. John Rees’ Mr Miller showed his liking for Virginia when successful in the Emerley Park Novice Stake. John Mundy had a good day when his two charges, Bobby Dee and Brahma Boy won

their respective events. Shaun Matcott’s Eagan Bale defeated Vic Kellaway’s Jackpot dog, Lola Jean in the Adelaide Plains Vet Surgery Maiden Stake probably spoiling what could have been for Vic. Ossie Chegia’s Les Norton showed his determination when defeating Dale Martin’s Cool Colleen. The Ruby Loans Maiden Stake was won in convincing style by the John Spoolder trained Testie Times in 15.45. It was good to see Cossie Lopresto return to the winner’s circle with Dakota Flair in the GOTBA Maiden Stake. Owners and trainers are reminded that we race again next Sunday, 4 July, and all grades will be catered for. Remember, we are running 2 $500 jackpots and are probably getting close to running 3. The Club is proud to announce that we are increasing our prizemoney and this will commence from our next meeting. All 8‐dog events will provide $220 to the winner and $80 to the runner up, with 4‐dog events running for $145 to the winner and $50 to the runner up. Prizemoney will be reviewed again before the end of the season.
