Kennebec Valley Garden Club Spring. 2019 Newsletter By, Debbie Sherman,VP Sorry this Spring Newsletter is a little late , but I am just returning from spending the winter traveling through many countries of Europe. It was a perfect time of year to visit places that are usually crowded during the Spring and Summer months. From reports I've received and the view from our home on the lake ,it was an interesting winter in Maine. Veteran’s Day Tribute On Nov. 8th some members gathered at the Arnold Lookout in Hallowell and the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery in Augusta to place a wreath at the Blue Star markers dedicated to all Veterans who have served, are serving, or will serve to protect our great country. Karen Foster,Chair., of the Blue Star Marker Committee has once again decorated the two beautiful wreaths. Members attending were: Karen Foster, Penny Pray, Coral Garrison, Jane Berthiaume, Nancy Voisine, Ann Thomas, and Debbie Sherman

Sorry this Spring Newsletter is a little late , but I am just returning from spending the winter traveling through many countries of Europe. It was a perfect time of year to visit places that are usually crowded during the Spring and Summer months. From reports I've received and the view from our home on the lake ,it was an interesting winter in Maine.

Karen Foster,Chair., of the Blue Star Marker

Committee has once again decorated the two beautiful wreaths. Members attending were: Karen Foster, Penny Pray, Coral Garrison, Jane Berthiaume, Nancy Voisine, Ann Thomas, and Debbie Sherman

  • Blaine House theme : A Holiday Tribute to our Armed Forces

Preparing for the annual Blaine House decorating takes a lot of KVGC members to turn that splendid residence into a much admired extravaganzas. Each room of the main floor is adorned with decorations and this year is very special as we honor all members past and present of our Armed Forces.

The social on Dec.4th was a huge success ! First Lady, Ann Lepage, attended each session and remarked several times what a transformation took place to make “ the people's house” so patriotic. She said:”it is beyond beautiful and such a tribute to all who serve our great nation.” This event was spectacular in every aspect….well done members !

  • Our Hearts are Saddened

    Jan. 9, 2019

  • KVGC club has just lost the oldest club member at the age of 103. Hope lived a wonderful life and attended every major event of KVGC. She attended our recent Blaine House Holiday Social in December and was greeted by many members and guests.

    ART in BLOOM

On February 24, 2019. KVGC held its first art-inspired floral designs at Lithgow Library in Augusta. Many members who were not traveling during the winter months contributed to this very exciting event. Many kudos to all the members who made it a huge success. A special thanks to Lesley Sprague of Sprague and Curtis Realty who graciously put two ads in the KJ, and also on the sign in front of their Western Ave. business.

Each arrangement was displayed next to a piece of artwork with the artist’s name, title of artwork, description of art piece and the plant materials that were used ,
