Kenmare Tidy Town’s had another great turn out to the ‘Adopt a TreeProject’ on Saturday 14th March and one hundred native trees have nowbeen planted in Reenagross Park by families and groups. Ian McGregorof Gortbrack Organic Farm, Tralee gave a very interesting talk onbiodiversity which the children found very informative and a plaque withthe manes will be unveiled in the park during Biodiversity Week in May. Kenmare Tidy Towns would like to thank everyone who participated orhelped in any way in the success of this project.

The Tuosist Dance Club fundraised for three years to buy a defibrillator,as they felt it was essential to have one available in the immediate vicinityof the dance hall. It is currently stored in the pub, but it needs to beinstalled on an exterior wall: the community helped to buy it so it shouldbe They would like to thank all those who supported the car boot sale onSunday 29th March at the Lake House by donating items, running stallsand, of course, those who came along to purchase excellent merchandise. They had a wonderful selection of stalls selling anything from cup-cakesand jams to jewellery, toys, home furnishings and even 'sexy' stockings, and raised €136 towards our outdoor cabinet for the defibrillator. There will be another indoor car boot sale on Sunday 10th May, so pleasespread the word: there will be a car boot sale once a month throughout thesummer.

The root of the word probiotic comes from the Greek word pro, meaning“promoting” and biotic, meaning “life”. There is some debate about how to defineprobiotics. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)defines probiotics as “live microorganisms, which when administered in adequateamounts, confer a health benefit on the host.” Yes, they are actually alive, andmost of these microorganisms are bacteria. Most people think of antibiotics andantibacterial products when you mention bacteria. Both of these kill bacteria, sowhy would you want to consume anything that has live bacteria in it? It’s allabout balance.Probiotics may seem new to the food and supplement industry, but they havebeen with us from our first breath. During a delivery through the birth canal, anewborn picks up bacteria from his/her mother. These good bacteria are nottransmitted when a Cesarean section is performed and have been shown to bethe reason why some infants born by Cesarean section have allergies, less thanoptimal immune systems, and lower levels of gut microflora. Probiotics are believed to protect us in two ways. The first is the role that theyplay in our digestive tract. We know that our digestive tract needs a healthybalance between the good and the bad bacteria, so what gets in the way of this?It looks like our lifestyle is both the problem and the solution. Poor food choices, emotional stress, lack of sleep, antibiotic overuse, other drugs and environmentalinfluences can all shift the balance in favour of the bad bacteria. When the digestive tract is healthy, it filters out and eliminates things that candamage it, such as harmful bacteria, toxins and other waste products. On the otherside, it takes in the things that our body needs (nutrients from food and water) andabsorbs and helps deliver them to the cells where they are needed. The idea is not to kill off all of the bad bacteria. Our body does have a need forthe bad ones and the good ones. The problem is when the balance is shifted tohave more bad than good. An imbalance has been associated with diarrhoea, urinary tract infections, muscle pain and fatigue. The other way that probiotics help is the impact that they have on our immunesystem. Some believe that this role is the most important. Our immune system isour protection against germs. When it doesn’t function properly, we can sufferfrom allergic reactions, autoimmune disorders and infections.Fermented dairy products have been advertised as containing “beneficialcultures”. These cultures would now be considered probiotics. While they maycontain probiotics, there is no guarantee that they have them in the amount or inthe form that is necessary to get the health benefits you are looking for. Thereforea high quality probiotic supplement in capsule or powder form is a safe and moreeffective alternative for all age groups starting from birth. If you want to know more about probiotic supplements and their benefits pleasecall into McSweeney Pharmacy Kenmare or ring us on 064-6679880 and we willbe more than happy to answer all your queries that you may have.

Kenmare boasts this year's winner of the prestigious ‘Eamon Keanefull length play’ for Writers Week 2015.Sadhbh Moriarty, a UCC student receivedthe top award in this section for her playwritten this year ‘In light of salt rings theydrew.’ This is not Sadhbh's first production, she represented UCC last year inBelfast with another play ‘The deepest Goldfish.’Sadhbh has always shown a love of writing from an early age, she attributes this to the many years she spent reading scripts with her parents,Paudie and Carmel, who themselves have acted and produced many plays in Kenmare. It is of particular delight to Sadhbh to be collecting this award in Listowel as she has many connections there, she is a member of theMoriarty family who have a long association with Drama in the town.Sadhbh is hoping to continue writing plays and has already ideas for hernext project, one has the feeling that we will be hearing more from her inthe future.

It was no surprise to most anglers to find out that the stocked lakeshave been reduced in number and also in the length of time that theywould be open for fishing.Everyone knew that they were being highly blackguarded, fish

quotas, angling methods and licences mean nothing to some people. Itis easy to bring class distinction or racism into the argument but greed, self centredness and downright bad manners know no boundary.Just a short few years ago a friends, his brother and his niece went to

one of the (bot local) stocked lakes for a days fishing off a rented boat. They paid their money and were told that the boat was already outfishing, but when they got to the lake to attract the attention of theperson in said boat who would pass it over to them for their day out. This they did no bother, the occupant of the boat was recognised as adoctor from outside the area. As he removed hisfishing gear from the boat they enquired as to the quality of thefishing. Excellent, was the response, showing them a plastic sackcontaining about twenty rainbow trout. My friend was a bit miffed atthis turn of events as the quota in those days was six per angler (nowfour). His tongue being faster then his brain he blurted out, ‘Why didyou kill twenty fish, six is more than enough for anybody, there isnobody trying to stop you from catching more than your quota ortrying to spoil your fun, but release them back into the lake so thatothers can enjoy the sport you had..‘Well I can’t do it now,’ was his response, ‘They are dead.’‘I hope if you come back here again,’ my friend said, ‘You will thinkof others and not be so greedy.’'With B*****ks like you around here there is no danger of me evercasting a rod in this lake,’ was the response from the doctor. After this disappointing start to their day things could only get better

and so they did. A goodly number of cracking trout came to their flies, even the niece who was six at the time managed to catch a fish so atthe days end they were all happy and excited, discussing the fishingand loading their gear into the car for going home.A week passed by, my friend was going to go fishing but could not

find his landing net. Racking his brains he wondered if he had left iton the lake shore while loading the car. ‘If I did it is well gone nowand not only is it a lucky net, but it was scandalously expensive, on anoff chance I will ring the people who rent the boats to see if anyonecould have new of it, but I never expect to see it again.’On ringing he was asked to describe his net, then the answer that

brought joy to his heart. ‘We have it here at the house, a fishermanfound it and gave it to us to return to you so you can collect it anytimeyou like, we will keep it for you.’ That was great news and the bestpart was that there were some few honest people left in the world.‘This is wonderful news, do you know the angler who found it, I willhave to give them some reward for their good deed.’‘Of course we do, do you remember Doctor so and so who had the

boat before you? Well you were lucky when you and your companyleft he decided to go out for a few more cats and found the net in theboat.’Could you believe it, he still wanted to catch more fish despite myfriends lecture. What can you do with people like that? Needless tosay he got no reward, my friend giving a small donation to charityinstead.

The salmon fishing has improved in Waterville and Killarney Lakeswith a few really good sized springers being boated. The same is trueof the Flesk River with some nice fish being caught. Our own areaKenmare is still in the doldrums with no reports of any catches - good, bad or indifferent. The Brown Trout fishing is good though, even if the fish are not in

peak condition, a few more weeks of this beautiful weather with anincrease in insect life will put the fat on them and make more strengthin their play.As I said before, the stocked lakes will not open will not open until

May 1st. Several anglers were cross as it still says opening April 1ston IFI websites, maybe it’s a joke. The sea fishing is so so, not a lot to report expect the demise of the

poor whale who tried to go up The Roughty, despite the best intentionsof those involved in trying to save it. Smith Harrington RIP wouldhave loved it. A whale on the fly in the tinker pool.

As well as offering a standardloan of 11.4% APR to their members, Kenmare Credit Union offersspecialised rates for things like car loans, holiday loans, education loans andhome improvement loans– everyday things that matter most.We understand the positive effect a personal loan can have on your life, giving you the chance to get things when you need or want them, so wealways look at your whole story. We only propose personal loans withrealistic terms, which you can pay back in a way that works best for you. Before taking out a loan of any kind, it's worth taking the time to understandhow lending works. That way you can compare the benefits and be aware ofthe risks. Some of the things that make a credit union loan different are –

We don’t charge for administration fees or transaction charges Interest rates are fair and reasonable and capped by lawRepayments are calculated on your reducing balance, so you pay less interestwith each repayment

Once eligible for a credit union loan, repayment terms can be designedaround your needs

In the event of your death, your credit union loan is insured - subject toterms, conditions and eligibility criteria - at no direct cost to youYou can pay off your loan early, make additional lump sum repayments orincrease your regular repayments, without a penalty. Other lenders maycharge you extra for paying them back faster!

Catherine Orpen from Kenmare Credit Union said: “A loan from KenmareCredit Union is a much better and more sensible option than borrowing fromhigh interest rate moneylenders and we would urge you to come and talk to usfirst before you approach one of these companies. The two most importantthings about a loan are being able to borrow the money and being able torepay it. Loans are only one of a raft of services available to members at theirlocal credit union, so whatever stage of life you are at - we are here to help.

She continued: "A credit union personal loan can help you in many ways, whether it’s to upgrade your entertainment system or to invest in a new modeof transport. On Easter Saturday, a lovely tradition continued when the Polish community in Kenmare held an Easter Mass in Holy Cross Church, part ofwhich involves families decorating their eggs and food which they bringup to the Altar for blessing. Father Tom Crean officiated, and the masswas translated into Polish by a member of the congregation. Harry Masterson’s photographs show Iga Maksym with her grandparentsStanislawk and Jan Baran; and two young pupils from St. John’s NationalSchool Wiktoria and Emilia.

Kenmare & Locality Animal Welfare SocietyThank you to everyone who donated to the KLAWS Church gatecollection, and supported us at our recent Quiz Night at the Brook LaneHotel. They both raised valuable funding towards helping the animalscurrently in our care. Your continued support is wonderful. Also, a big"thank you" to those involved in the rescue of the Minke Whale that wasbeached in the Roughty River. Let's hope it made it back out to openwaters.

If anyone can give a good home to a horse that was found at Muckrossrecently, please call KLAWS on 087 970 4480 and speak to Sabine. Plus,if anyone could foster a cat or a dog, please contact KLAWS to volunteeryour services.

We know of the good work of Guide Dogs or the Hearing Dogs for theDeaf. And of course, dogs are trained to sniff out drugs at airports andshipping ports. But now they are being trained to sniff out ivory and rhinohorn as it leaves airports and ports, in what it is the third largest illegaltrade after drug and human trafficking. A new project has been set up bythe Endangered Wildlife Trust to stamp out this evil trade and prevent therhino and the elephant being hunted to extinction, with dogs at theforefront of a ground breaking method of detection and prevention.

There are many excellent examples of how animals do good, and yetMankind continues to treat them in appalling ways. Too many dogs get leftat the local Pound or get taken in because they are running loose on thestreets. Therefore, why don't the Airport or Port Authorities recruit theSpaniels, the Setters and the Terriers to see if they can be trained to searchfor drugs or explosives? The Garda should look there first for the largerbreeds of dogs that could be used in the help of fighting Crime. Thevarious Authorities should work with Animal Welfare Groups and helpreduce the number of dogs abandoned without a hope.

If anyone is looking to give a home to a dog or cat please try your localanimal welfare group (KLAWS 087 970 4480) or the local Dog Poundfirst and give an unwanted animal their "Forever Home". You may besurprised, as you may have just given a home to your own "Life Saver".

At a recent low tide a minke whale wasbeached nearby the Roughty River inKenmare, this is the very far end of theKenmare river. It is the second deepestinland a Minke whale was ever found inIreland. With the help of many thewhale was kept alive during the lowtide and eventually dragged in to somewater. Eventually this beautiful animalwas herded by two local boats down theriver, under the bridge and into openwater. The last sighting was of thewhale swimming in a straight linetowards the sea after a great effort fromall involved! Sadly the whale later died, what wonderful people we have inKenmare who tried so hard to give hima chance of living.

Kenmare Waste Transfer Station; Please see following reply from KerryCounty Councils Environment section. Due to an increase in the amount ofcontaminated waste going into the plastic and paper skips in Kenmare WTSi.e. black bags of waste and nappies going into these without payment. Thishas resulted in an increased operational cost to us from our contractedcollector. In addition the good quality materials is not being protected from therain and this is causing good quality paper  not reaching its potential worthrecycling wise. Therefore a decision was made to close the covers and minimse contaminationand rain egress. There are slits on both sides of the skips which prevent largebags being forced into the skips.  I do realize that this probably adds 2/3minutes extra to dispose of waste but this ensure that we can continue toprovide this service free of charge to the public.Kenmare Hospital; utilization of 21 extra beds needed. I have again calledfor the first floor of the new Kenmare Community Nursing Unit to be openedto patients. The new facility caters for a huge catchment area stretching fromCaherdaniel almost into Castletownbere. The staff do an amazing job and itstime that the new hospital is fully used especially to allow more peoplerecuperate after illnesses, respite availability and long stay patients. DeputyBrendan Griffin TD has been assisting and the HSE informs us a review iscurrently underway throughout all Kerry Community Hospitals and hopefullyfunding will be provided from the Nursing Home Support Scheme.

Further to my continuousrepresentations the council informed me the extra signage on this dangerousturn is to be erected when the signage company is next in the area.Blackvalley - Shocking Phone coverage. The phone coverage is terrible attimes in the Blackvalley and it is essential that people living in an isolatedlocation are able to contact people especially in the case of an emergency. There are often problems with coverage in the locality. I have contacted theCommunications Regulator; they are investigating the issue and are to get backto me.Rossdohan, Tahilla Water Scheme. The use of the existing bored well supply will bediscontinued, following the cleaning of the reservoir and the commissioning ofthe new pump station at Derryquin.Housing in Kerry: €62 million extra. Kerry County Council has beenallocated an extra €62 Million from the Government to help alleviate thehousing situation in the County. The Council will be building and leasing morehouses and it is hoped to reduce the housing waiting list by 26% in Kerry. Ifanyone has any housing queries please feel free to contact me.Roadside hedges: must be cut. As I have alreadyhighlighted in recentweeks, the Department ofSocial Protection hasdisgracefully tried to takebusiness away from ourPost Offices. They havetaken business byencouraging people to gettheir social welfarepayments paid into theirbanking institutions.Thankfully theDepartment and theMinister for SocialProtection have now beenembarrassed into

stopping this practice. I would strongly encourage everyone to rememberone very important fact. When it comes to your local Post Office, if youdon’t USE IT you will LOSE IT.”I was glad to welcome the chairman of the board of the IDA to Kerry in

recent days. They held a stakeholders forum meeting, which is importantfor our county. Myself and others on the board impressed the need forfurther job creation in our county. I believe that the IDA has overlookedour county in the past. But I am glad that they are now concentrating newefforts to bring much needed work to our county.

Once again last month, Kenmare was the focal point of the lace-makingworld as enthusiasts of this delicate art gathered to take part in thesecond Kenmare Lace Festival, there were workshops, competitions, lectures, exhibitions and fashion shows, not to mention the lace-bedecked windows of the shops and restaurants all over town. There are so many people who need to be thanked for their help and

support including Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine, the Carnegie Arts Centre, the Park Hotel Kenmare, Sheen Falls Lodge, the local shops andrestaurants, Senator Mark Daly, Michael Healy Rae TD, Councillor DanMcCarthy, Noel Crowley, the lacy window artists, the many volunteerswho gave up their time to curate our exhibitions, and everyone else whohelped in any way towards the success of this, the second KenmareLace Festival. Special thanks to everyone who took part in ourcompetitions, and to the National Tailoring Academy for sponsoringthe Fashion-Able competition and offering such wonderful prizes. Thanks also to the local shops, the designers and the couturiers of thefuture whose creations graced the catwalks in the Park Hotel and theSheen Falls Lodge. There was a time not so long ago whenpeople in rural Ireland used to leave theirdoors open and unlocked when they were outin case one of the neighbours might need tocome in and borrow something. That day isnow long gone and has been replaced by a veryreal concern about being robbed or evenattacked in their own homes. Gates, locks, dogs, alarms and local community alert networks havenow become an essential part of rural life. The text alert system has proved very effectivearound the country, as a way for communities tomonitor unusual or suspicious activity in their

neighbourhoods and the Guards have been verysupportive in that area. Yet there is still aconcern about break-ins, especially at night.Women living on their own as well as theelderly are particularly vulnerable. Personalalarms are a reassurance for these people andtheir families, having an alarm on your person, which will connect with a monitoring stationand notify your nominated neighbours, gives aperson the knowledge that they are not alone. These devices are also valuable for farmers whomight be in a remote area alone for a long timeon their own and not be able to phone for help.

A simple devise worn around the wrist can be alifesaver.Blackwater Women’s Group are hosting ameeting on Tuesday where a leading expert inintruder alarms and security systems will bemaking a presentation and answering yourquestions. The meeting is open to everybodyin the greater Kenmare area. For further details contact MaireadRobinson, Blackwater Women’s Group on087 2426781

This is a great time of year with the temperatures rising inthe bright spring sunshine and the countryside coming to lifewith splashes of wildflowers and the trees beginning to comeinto leaf a little bit every day. The weather recently has beenvery good , bright and sunny, cool at nights with no real frostand with a little bit of rain that did no more than keep thedust down ! hopefully it will remain the same as long aspossible but by the time you are reading this however itcould of all changed as April weather is notorious for itsheavy ‘April Showers’ and indeed the unsettled ‘cuckooweather’ at the end of the month into early May. But , let’sbe optimistic and hope that this will be the beginning of whatwill turn into a long warm summer !!So, less of the chat and off to work !1. The dry weather has made it possible to cut the grassdown very low into the mossy layers in many lawns. Takethe opportunity to spread some Lawn fertilizer and MossKiller to help curb back the moss and encourage grassgrowth. By collecting the clippings at each mowing you willhelp reduce the further build-up of moss. Apply the fertilizerjust before some rain is forecast and don’t mow for about 4to 5 days later.2. From now on it is time to start planting up yoursummer patio containers, window boxes and hangingbaskets. There are so many flowering patio plants andsummer annuals to choose from now that you can mix andmatch and come up with your own recipe for a colourfularrangement. Just be careful of the clear skies at night untilthe middle of May as it is still possible to get a nights’ frostup until then that can damage your plants and can even killthe more sensitive ones . To create your summer displaysyou can use any container to plant into from old boots, tincans, dustbins and saucepans if you are into recycling, or tocolourful plastic pots and ceramic pots and terracotta. Thenchoose your compost, from a regular potting compost to onethat contains slow release fertilizer that will feed your plantsfor several months. A water retention gel can also beincorporated into the compost at this stage if you want tomake the task of watering in the summer a little easier. Andthen off you can go to choose your selection of plants. Not

possible to mention all the different types available but wehave a wide range in stock out at Willowfield that we canshow you. The most popular plants would be Geranium,Petunia, Begonia and Lobelia but there are many many moreto choose from, so come on out and have a look see !3. In the Fruit garden, try and get any trees or bushesplanted up as soon as you can before summer arrives.Fertilize the soil with some organic fertilizer or a layer ofmulch would also help keep weed growth down in closeproximity to the base of the bush/tree. Keep an eye out for anearly attack of greenfly on the young developing leaves. After a mild enough winter there will be small armies ofgreenfly ready to attack any young tender growth that willsoon be appearing. Make sure all freshly planted trees orshrubs are securely supported to prevent ‘rocking’ n thewind. Black currants, Gooseberry and Raspberry shouldideally all be planted now but still possible for another fewweeks with a bit of extra care and attention.4. In the vege garden there is plenty to do. Potatoesshould be planted by now and earthing up can take placewhenever the shoots are several inches above the soilsurface. Earthing up at this time of year, as well as helping toincrease your yield , it also helps prevent against frostdamage..Peas and beens can also be sown direct into the soilas well as the root crops like carrot, parsnip, turnips ..etc.Lettuce and cabbage can also be planted as young plants. Toprevent against damage from frost or cold winds, you canprotect your plants and encourage germination of freshly

sown crops by covering the ground with a special ‘fleece’that is available in the garden centre. Thus will keep theground several degrees higher and encourage early growth.5. A Herb garden can be planted up from potted plants orseed can be sown under protection for planting out muchlater on. Planting can be carried out in the ground or incontainers close to the house for ease of picking. Most herbsare happy to be grouped together but Mint should be kept intheir own container as they are very invasive and will takeover the whole herb patch if not contained.6. Lavender will make a great summer flowering plantand should be planted up now. The regular Lavenderaugustifolia makes the largest toughest plant that canwithstand our winters very well but misses out of theintensity of colour produced by Lavender Hidcote orMunstead varieties. If planting on wet ground, plant on aslightly higher raised area to give better drainage.7. Alpines are very useful for providing colour in thegarden at this time of the year as they are able to withstandthe late frosts of April without any damage to their flowers.Aubretia, Arabis and Campanulas are best of the earlyflowering alpines and there are plenty more to follow forcontinual splashes of colour.8. Larger Herbaceous perennials can also be planted nowfor summer flowering. Astilbe, Delphinium, Lupin,Phlox…etc will all produce a great splash of coulor for lateron in the season.9. In the shrub beds the early flowering Mahonia,Camelia, Viburnum and Forsythia are beginning to give wayto Magnolias, Rhododendrons, Choisya and the variousPieris with their changing leaf colour and flowers. Add newbushedto your shrubbery to provide a continuous splash ofcolour for throughout the season.10. Get as much work done as possible over the next fewweeks as it will make summer gardening work so mucheasier !....and no midges at the moment !!Until next month, Happy Gardening and come and see usoutat Willowfield on the Sneem Road out of KenmareSimon and Margaret Linnell 087 9809733

Aren’t these up cycled pieces of furniture fabulous? If you are interested inlearning how to achieve results like these then why not join one of ourworkshops or a private class where you can bring your own piece and wewill refinish a piece of furniture with you.We created this look with the chest of drawers by cleaning it first withsugar soap, then giving it two coats of Autentico ‘byzantine' chalk paint. We then slightly distressed the piece and painted the rims with 'old gold’before finishing the piece with a clear wax.The Paint Room, 22 Henry Street, Kenmare 064 6640885

Kenmare And District Garden ClubThursday, 26 March was the Club’s AGM and was reasonably wellattended. We got the business out of the way first and there have been afew changes to the Committee: Chairman: Neal Cahill; Secretary:Geraldine Johnston; Treasurer: Coral Knowles; PR: Rosemary Dixon andcommittee members Ros Green, Therese Hayes, Eva Kelleher and exofficio, Stephen Austen. Heartfelt thanks were given to the retiringChairman, Stephen Austen and Treasurer, Anne Cronin for all their hardwork over the past few years. We were given a fascinating talk and slide show by Donnchadh Mac

Carthaigh, a native of Kenmare who from a young age showed atremendous interest in plants but went on to study science. He has workedfor 40 years in Germany and is shortly off to head a university in Ethiopia. The subject of his talk was the “Rapidly Changing Markets in Horticultureof the European Union” and he held us spellbound as he described thevastness of the growing nurseries in Europe, particularly Germany andHolland. Everything is mechanised and produced in such huge quantitiesincluding the ‘ready-grown’ giant trees required these days in suchprojects as the London Olympics. Mind-boggling information! Our first trip will be on Thursday 7th May to Muckross Park for lunch

and a tour of the gardens and this will be instead of a speaker in theevening. Final information will be available on Monday, 27th April.Details were given of the overnight trip to Mount Usher and AirfieldGardens plus at least one nursery on 13/14 May. If anyone is interested inthese trips, please contact Geraldine on 0863935965 but further detailswill be available at the next meeting at Gateway, 7.30 p.m. on MONDAY,27 April when Sally Gregson, a designer/writer and owner of Mill CottageNursery in Somerset, U.K. will be coming to speak about “Shady Ladiesand Damp Damsels” which sounds fascinating! She will be bringingplants for sale too. Please note the change of day.

We love it and have made manyfriends. I am aware from listening to Lyric FM of how much the Irishlove the voice and I have myself sung on numerous occasions in the localhostelries in the Derrynane area. What better then than to bring a reallytop class male voice choir to the area. I have been a member of theImperial Male Voice Choir for nearly 5 years and have found theexperience really rewarding. My wife has listened to the choir on manyoccasions and says that audiences never leave an IMVC concert withouta smiles on their faces. We are quality but we are fun!

A great start to the SFL with a full six pointstaken from Currow, Laune Rangers andGneeveguilla. At this point we have played thefirst round in the Intermediate Championship. With a large panel of players the competition forplaces has been healthy and the football we haveplayed very entertaining.

U14 Football Division 1: Kenmare playedtheir first game in the Lee Strand County League

on Wednesday April 1st against Legion onhome ground in Fr Breen Park. This game wasfiercely entertaining from the word go. Kenmaregot off to a better start but there was never muchbetween the two teams. Kenmare's half timelead was diminished with two successive goalsfrom Legion but our boys kept their heads andwent on winning by two points with the finalscore reading 5-12 to 5-10. It was a strongoverall team effort with great performancesfrom the whole team.

U16 East Kerry League: Kenmare played awayto Keel/Listry in the first round of the EastKerry League coming away with a three pointvictory with a final score of 3-9 to 1-12.Kenmare had a bye in round two.

U16 Hurling Division 1: Kenmare/ Kilgarvan

played their first game at home in Kilgarvanagainst Ballyduff . Kenmare/Kilgarvandominated from the onset never lettingBallyduff into the game . It was a well balancedhome team with strengths in all areas. The finalscore read 8-11 to 0-03 in favour of the hometeam.

Kenmare/Kilgarvan played their second gameagainst Crotta on home ground again. This was amuch closer encounter and the visitors got off toa better start. The home team responded welland went ahead by a point ,this game couldhave gone either way being level with only afew minutes to go. The final score read 3-2 to 0-13.U14 Hurling Div 1: Kenmare/Kilgarvan playedtheir first game away to Kilmoyley and theirsecond game away to Ballyduff . Despite agreat team effort the opposition prooved toostrong on both occasions. Our first home gamewas played on Easter Saturday againstAbbeydorney, conditions were ideal on thislovely sunny evening. It transpired to be a veryone sided game this time in our favour. Weregistered our first win of which we were glad.

Neidin Bowls ClubThe singles league in the club got underway 2weeks ago and already a number of matcheshave been played. It is extremely goodpractice over 7 ends using 3 bowls. It is anon going league with a movement of peoplebetween the sections depending on scores.

In the Kerry league the Kenmare Eagles teamof Mary Nolan, Ann Lynch, Brenda Holdenand Norman Wilson were just pipped on thelast ball by a very strong Beaufort team whowon the league last year. A very good resultindeed for our team.

Our numbers continue to grow and thestandard is rising all the time. We are nowable to compete as equals with teams whohave been playing much longer than we have.

If anyone is interested in playing, we bowl onMonday and Thursday mornings from 10.45until 1.00 pm at the GAA hall. Bowls andtuition are supplied. For further informationcontact Aiden at 086 040955 or Sue at 0863487633. There is a very friendlyatmosphere in the club and new members arewelcome.

It’s a revolutionary new advance in tractor mower technology that bringsthe convenience of one-touch starting, real-time feedback and keylesssecurity to lawn equipment.

“When we asked our customers what features they would like to see onfuture riding mowers the answer was unequivocal; “make it easier tostart”, “find a way to tell me if something is wrong”, and “make it saferaround my kids”. So we did just that,” says Andy Walsh – After SalesManager Husqvarna IrelandThe new SmartSwitch feature means you don’t need a key to start the

engine. Just enter a code in the SmartSwitch display and a successful startis just one touch away. It makes the starting procedure easy and cuts thetime needed to get the tractor operational. No key also means no moredead batteries caused by accidentally leaving a starter key in the ‘On’position. “In fact, SmartSwitch shuts down the system automatically after a shortperiod of inactivity,” says Andy Walsh at Husqvarna. Security is always a top priority for Husqvarna. And with SmartSwitch

we are able to make our tractors safer than ever before. Themicroprocessor-controlled display gives the user clear feedback if anythingneed to be corrected before starting – battery status, the parking brake orthe cutting deck. Instead of guessing, SmartSwitch provides immediateand correct information. The built-in intelligence of SmartSwitch makes handling very easy. It

tells the driver if something is wrong or needs to be corrected. And shouldthe driver forget, SmartSwitch will remember. For instance, if the drivershifts into reverse without pressing the ‘mowing-in-reverse-button’, thesystem will automatically shut down the cutting deck and leave the enginegoing. And should the tractor be left with the headlights on, SmartSwitchtakes care of that too and switches them off. SmartSwitch was launched with the new TC 338 & TC 342 tractor

models available in dealerships in Ireland starting in MARCH 2015.These are the new SmartSwitch features:Keyless, multi-functional display with push-button start and stop.Indicator lamps for parking brake, battery, headlight and ROS (ReverseOperating System). Endurance Series engine specifically tailored to the SmartSwitch to allowsimple one-touch starting. For more information, please contact your local Husqvarna dealer. They

can be located using our ‘Dealer Locator’ tab on the Husqvarna.ie website.
