What is Hydroelectric energy?Hydroelectric energy is the use of flowing water to create electricity.

The most common type of hydroelectric plant uses a dam on a river to store water in a reservoir.

Advantages Controls flooding & provides recreational activities .

Simple design makes for inexpensive repairs and maintenance costs.

Renewable energy source, because the water is not destroyed by passing through the dam.

If needed, dams can be shut down instantly, where thermal plants take hours, and nuclear plants can take days!

Very few breakdowns.

DisadvantagesDisrupts natural seasonal changes in the river, and ecosystems can be destroyed.

Ends flooding that help to clean out the silt in rivers, causing them to clog .

Studies show that the plant decay caused downstream of major dams produces as many greenhouse gasses as more conventional methods of producing electricity.

Dams are expensive to build, and due to drought may become useless, or produce much less power than originally planned.

Dams can break in a massive flash flood.

My Vision of the future in the USI believe that Hydroelectric Energy will become the main source of energy .

1) It’s renewable 2) Inexpensive 3) 2,000 hydroelectric power plants

My vision of the future around the world

Hydroelectric energy use will decrease greatly around the world. In 2008 the demand for

hydroelectric power dropped for the fist time in 30 years.

In 2009 it continued drop in Europe ,China, etc.
