What is Hazard Mitigation?
Mitigation is the effort to reduce loss of life and property by lessening the impact of disasters.
Mitigation efforts provide value to the American people by:
• creating safer communities by reducing loss of life
and property, • enabling individuals to recover more rapidly from
flood and other disasters, and • lessening the financial impact on the Treasury,
States, Tribes, and communities.
