The tasting rooms that have been set up by these California wineries are among the finest in the state, and not just because of the wines that are on offer. The locations of these wineries and tasting rooms is at times totally breathtaking.

It would be altogether too easy to find yourself wanting to stay put in a single location, in spite of the fact that there are so many other incredible spots just waiting to be discovered along this magnificent wine road. And this is all just assuming that you stick to the wineries in Russian River Valley, since there are so many more fantastic regions in Sonoma County.

Healdsburg, California is probably the best place to set up base camp when looking to do a little exploring in Russian River Valley.

There are great accommodations to be found there, as well as fine dining, and a number of tasting rooms that pull in wines from all of the magnificent wineries that fan out from this central location in Sonoma. With so much to see and do in this part of the world, it’s definitely best that you do a little pre-planning before making the trip.

One thing that we would definitely suggest is that you look at taking an organized tour of the Russian River Valley wineries, and we say that for a couple of different reasons.

The most obvious is that it’s never a good idea to drink and drive, and the temptation to do so in this part of the world can be strong.

The other reason is that with over 150 wineries to choose from, it can be overwhelming to try and create a travel plan that includes everything. This is one area in Sonoma that may be better suited to a guided tour of sorts, just so that you don’t miss anything along the way.
