    Fundraiser to aid local business owner Tracy Fay to be held in May

    Lizzy and the Enchanted Creamery owner has been diagnosed with breast cancer

    Cumberland, RI. March 3, 2011: Early this year local and beloved small business owner Tracy Fay was

    diagnosed with breast cancer. As a result she has made a tough decision to close her business of five

    years, Lizzy and the Enchanted Creamery. The business was a small town favorite with home made ice

    cream and unique toys being their claim to fame. The closing will surely leave a gap in the hearts of th

    community.

    For the past two years Tracy has been the team captain of the Lizzys Illuminators, at CumberlandsRelay for Life. She has always been a big advocate for cancer fundraising. Now that Tracy has been

    diagnosed herself, some of her previous employees and regular customers will be organizing a

    fundraiser in her honor to help her and her family during this trying time. The fundraiser will be held at

    Cumberland House of Pizza on May 16thfrom 6 to 9pm. The tickets are $25 and are available for

    purchase at Phantom Farms. There will be pizza, music by Joe Silva, raffles and a silent auction. Some

    of the prizes donated by local business owners include:

    -A professionally installed water garden valued at $2,100 from Tranquil Water Gardens and Oasis

    Ponds.

    - A private Phantom Farm tour and apple picking with owner John Hunt.

    - A wine tasting party for 10 from Diamond Hill Vineyards.

    All proceeds will go to help Tracy and her family.

    Fay closes the door on her beloved Enchanted Creamery

    Needs her energy to battle cancer

    CUMBERLAND - The closing of this small business leaves more than a gap in a storefront. For some,it's leaving a lump in the throat of the community as well as its friendly owner.

    Owner Tracy Fay has breast cancer. That's why she has decided to close her store, Lizzy and theEnchanted Creamery. Her illness and shuttering of the ice cream parlor and toy store has createdripples of emotions throughout her web of customers and friends, who are rallying around her with goodwishes and fund-raisers.

    "It's just heartbreaking to see this happen to her. She's only 38," said friend Nancy Pelletier.

    For two years, Fay has been raising funds for the American Cancer Society through the CumberlandRelay for Life. She's the team captain of "Lizzy's Illuminators."

    "The craziness of it all is that she was sitting there only a few weeks before saying, 'I want to make it

    better than ever.' Only two weeks later she found out she had cancer. She had found a lump. She wentright to the doctor. She knew within a week. It was shocking," Pelletier said.

    While running the store and making ice cream, Fay has been receiving weekly chemotherapy that willcontinue through the summer. She said the cell-killing drugs make her feel tired, a feeling that the 38-year-old business owner and night owl isn't used to.

    She was advised that as the treatments become more powerful, "I wouldn't be able to do what I do."

    That has meant closing the store.

    It was a delight for the young at heart, with everything from trinkets to life-size plush dogs. Childrencame in for storytimes and Tracy read; they wore costumes she kept in a trunk. She threw birthdayparties.

    "I have a lot of good memories because I had fun," Fay said as she sat at a table near the counter. "Thiis what I enjoyed doing." The store has been both livelihood and a source of friends since she openedeight years ago.

    "And I'll miss the kids who come in here and tell me they'll miss the store 'because it's a great place.' Itwas a good place. It is a great place. It will definitely, always be a part of me," Fay said.

    Fay appeared contented on Thursday, April 16, one of the last days of the store.

    Her sister, Nadine Littlefield, had come in from California to offer support.

    "She makes my kale drinks," Fay said, laughing. Kale is supposed to be a cancer-fighter. Fay holds hernose and drinks one down each day.

    "The whole family has been supportive," Fay said. Her mother, Kathy, has been helping with the storeand with her sons, Logan, 4, and Garrett, 6, and 13-year-old daughter, Taylor. The store was namedafter Taylor's middle name, Elizabeth.

    Before Fay's diagnosis, she and her husband had wavered about keeping the store open.

    "Because of the last year with the economy, we were up in the air about what to do about it," Fay said."When this came, I knew I had to close. It puts a different perspective on your life."

    "We're going to take a huge financial hit, but I don't care," her husband, Robert Fay, said. "In this

    economy, trying to keep a small business open is an uphill battle. There's no way she can fight twobattles at once." He estimated she worked at least 80 hours a week.

    "I'll have more time with my kids, which I didn't have," Fay said. "We feel it was a sign from somewhereto slow down," she said. "Today, I got to go to my daughter's softball game."

    Robert, a Cumberland police officer, is well known as the school resource and D.A.R.E. officer at fourschools. A recent 5K fund-raiser at Phantom Farms, organized by her cousin, Kerri Stenovitch, broughtout 85 of his police colleagues. They wore white T-shirts with pink letters spelling "Team Tracy." Theteam was organized by Robert's friend, Det. Jackie Hooper.

    "It was amazing that so many people were there for me," she said.

    Sitting at the counter every day, sipping a coffee shake, Nancy Pelletier became close friends with Fay.

    Pelletier has organized a fund-raiser for Monday, May 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Cumberland House ofPizza. The "huge, unbelievable response" of 300 tickets sold to date means that guests will spill overinto adjoining space.

    The $25 tickets, available at Phantom Farms, includes pizza, music by Joe Silva, raffles and a silentauction.

    Fay dallied for a few days before actually closing the store. On a recent day, regular customers came into say good-bye. An elderly woman hugged Fay and said, "I think I'll have a cabinet, after all."
