dead from all wars. It is the Bell of Peace, the largest
bell in the world, which is made from the melted bron-
ze of the cannons which wreaked havoc and death on

ENCOUNTERS WITH CULTURE: THE MUSEUMSKUTLURELLE BEGEGNUNGEN: DIE MUSEEN
MARTOverlooking a square that is covered by a glass dome, the
Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MART) was con-
ceived by Mario Botta. The futurist collection of Fortunato
Depero represents the founding nucleus of this large muse-
um, which exhibits more than 10,000 works and is enriched
by important temporary exhibitions of contemporary art or art
from the last century.
HISTORIC MUSEUM OF THE WAR It is one of the most complete in Italy in terms of documents,
artefacts and exhibitions on the First World War. The striking
environments inside the Castle house the collections of wea-
pons and artefacts.
CIVIC MUSEUM It exhibits interesting collections of natural science, archaeo-
logy, astronomy, figurative arts and technology. It also mana-
ges the Astronomical Observatory on Monte Zugna, the
Roman Villa of Isera and the guided tours to the dinosaur foot-
prints in Lavini di Marco.
Das Museo d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (Museum für
moderne und zeitgenössische Kunst) befindet sich an einem
von einer Kristallkuppel überdeckten Platz und wurde von
Mario Botta entworfen. Die futuristische Sammlung von For-
tunato Depero stellt den Kern dar, von dem aus das große
Museum ins Leben gerufen wurde. Es verfügt über eine Sam-
mlung von mehr als 10.000 Arbeiten und wird mit wichtigen
Ausstellungen von zeitgenössischer Kunst des letzten
Jahrhunderts und der Gegenwart vervollständigt.

HISTORISCHES KRIEGSMUSEUMEs handelt sich um eines der vollständigsten Museen in ganz
Italien und besitzt eine umfassende Sammlung von Doku-
menten, Zeugnissen und Ausstellungen zum ersten
Weltkrieg. Die eindrucksvollen Räume der Burg beherbergen
Waffensammlungen und Fundstücke.
Im Museum werden interessante Sammlungen zu Naturwis-
senschaften, Archäologie, Astronomie, darstellende Kunst
und Technologie ausgestellt. Es leitet zudem die Sternwarte
auf dem Monte Zugna, die Villa Romana von Isera und die
Führungen zu den Dinosaurierabdrücken in den Lavini di Mar-
co.
STADTMUSEUMJeden Abend schlägt sie 100 Mal im Andenken an die
Kriegsgefallenen. Es handelt sich um die Friedens-
glocke, die größte Glocke der Welt, geschmiedet aus
der eingeschmolzenen Bronze der Kanonen, die an
den Fronten des Weltkriegs für Tod und Zerstörung
sorgten.

of Avio and Lizzana. There are Gothic Romanesque traces in S.Antonio di Savi-
gnano and S.Ilario. Precious frescoes decorate the walls of S. Rocco in Volano
and S. Maria in Brancolino. Architectures from the sixth and seventh centu-
ries embellish the archpriestal church of Villa Lagarina, and Montalbano
above Mori. The hermitage of S.Colombano is on sheer drop over the Leno.

The peaks of Stivo, Biaena and Creino protect the Val di Gre-
sta, where tasty fruits and vegetables are farmed. The Leno
valleys and the Monti Lessini, around the group of the Piccole
Dolomiti, are ideal destinations for alpine trekking on the
Pasubio or for mountain bike excursions to discover the
mountain pastures.

WINTER
Winter in Brentonico is not only about skiing, but it is
about sledging, skating and walks with snowshoes. An
experience that is not to be missed is a moonlit excursion
with snowshoes. In the high season a special ski-bus con-
nects the skiing towns of the plateau. For children enter-
tainment is ensured by the snow nursery, which is a
space with entertainment for children, themed parties
and a lot of fun. A few minutes from Brentonico, Rovereto
and Vallagarina present themselves as pleasant destina-
tions for cultural, gastronomic or shopping excursions.
Golosaneve is the key event of the winter season in
Brentonico. The third Saturday of January, with skis
or snowshoes you can reach the alpine huts in which
to enjoy small tasty flavours or succulent dishes with
ancient tastes.

provides access to the pistes of Prà Alpesina, from
where there is an unmatched view of the waters of
Lake Garda.

Golosaneve is the key event of the winter season in
Brentonico. The third Saturday of January, with skis
or snowshoes you can reach the alpine huts in which
to enjoy small tasty flavours or succulent dishes with
ancient tastes.

On Monte Baldo 40 kilometres of pistes and
modern facilities await skiers. Cross-country ski-
tracks are prepared for the classic technique as
well as for skating. Field schools and ski instruc-
tors are available for beginners and youngsters.
At Christmas and during the weekend the ski-bus
provides access to the pistes of Prà Alpesina, from
where there is an unmatched view of the waters of
Lake Garda.
