Goals

To bring sustainable livelihood of the most vulnerable families by enhancing diversion based irrigation initiative addressing food security in Karanjkot and Baburmunda the most drought prone villages of Golamunda Block.

Objectives of DBI To develop and conserve natural resources and

use of waste water of the area by developing two Diversion based Irrigation projects in two villages and provide irrigation facility to the un irrigated and waste lands.

  To provide the sustainable irrigation facility with

the community management and improve the water management skills among the tribal farmers by indigenous way for development of agriculture and kitchen garden.

PROGRAMME UNDERTAKEN IN DBI COMMAND AREA

Formation of Village DBI Committees Capacity building through training and exposure to

potential area Training on vermi culture, compost pits and Dry

land farming i.e. mixed cropping and cotton cultivation

Fund generation for maintenance of DBI Provide seeds and fertilizer for Kitchen gardening Demonstration and Promotion of Kitchen Gardening Water Supply for domestic purpose

INITIATIVE ON COMMUNITY INSTITUTION IN DBI AREA

Formation 2 Water users committees in two DBI villages with compromise of 30 members

Organise regular meetings in village level with the committee and the villagers,

Organise 2 exposure visit to the potential DBI and agriculture promotion

Fund generate 2550 in Baburmund and Rs 3200 in Karanjkot for maintainace the DBI for its sustainability,

Initiative taken for regular meeting and maintance the DBI, water management

Acheivements in the programme

Production of rice and cotton has been increased by 20% through check drought and water shortage

More 32 Acers cotton, and 12 Acers of vegetable cultivation has increased

Double crop is possible in 22 Acers of land

56 family used to get easy water suppoy in their door steps

CHALLENGES FACED IN IMPLEMENTATIN DBI

Previously people are non cooperative as it is failure project and the stream water can not reached to the village

Tribal people are non interested on cash crop like cotton and vegetables

The target people have no habit on mixed crop and dislike the agricultural practices

LEARNING FROM DBI There are more sides where DBI can be

constructed and promotion of agriculture is possible and drought can be checked

By mobilization target people a major proportion of cost of DBI can insured

Proper maintenance can be possible by the DBI committee through capacity building and fund generate by the use of water
