A Closer Look: Southwest Coast
Restoration: Restore wetlands and chenier ridges whilelimiting saltwater intrusion. Maintain and increase, wherepossible, the input of fresh water to maintain a balanceamong saline and fresh wetlands.
Protection: Levees are proposed for the Lake Charles andAbbeville areas. Nonstructural measures are proposed forless populated areas. Restoration of chenier ridges andhealthy wetlands contribute additional storm protection.
