During the month of November 2018, the Health & FitnessCommittee organized a first ever Hijama Camp, which was freefor the members, whom benefited from this Sunnah.

A Fast Food Festival was organized by the Kitchen Committeein line with a regular trend of food festivals, accompanied bymusic which kept the members entertained, while enjoying thedelicious food.

The current Managing Committee kept the members entertained& enlightened during the year through various eventsand seminars.

We are greatly honored by the support of the respected membersthroughout the year.

Message

Dear Members,

My term as President of Karachi Club is coming to an end. I am filled with

mixed emotions. Each of you knows serving this elite club (our second home)

for a member is a matter of great pride and honor. I take this opportunity to

express gratitude to my Managing Committee (MC) for their unprecedentedsupport, great companionship and strong commitments for the completion of objectives. Their

year-long uphill battle and excellent team work for headway of the club cannot be uttered in

words, but can be witnessed from drastic improvement in the amenities.

The year started with abandoned challenges which your MC dealt with rationally andharmonization in the supreme interest of the club not limited to the reopening of Swimming

Pool, the facility which was crippled on technical ground, revival of halted extension project

affected by neighbor unprovoked stay order from court, followed by ample effective meetings

with the contractor to convince them to pick up work where left off on rates agreed in 2017,

additionally long-term tangible steps were taken encompassing setting up RO Plant to caterclub future water requirement and supply of quality potable water to members on marginal

rates, this initiative of your MC would help restricting resources to purchase water from outside,

creation of jogging track, relocating ladies gym back in its original edifice, under construction

of much needed high-classsitting area for our female members.

In addition, proposed amendments in membership rules in EOGB meeting held on 30th

November 2018, mainly amnesty for terminated members which august house ratified

unanimously. Transparency/merit never compromised at any level of awarding / signing

agreements, zero tolerance on rules and bylaws to uphold discipline and decorum in the club.

Lastly, my best wishes for the upcoming Managing Committee and am confident that they

would carry on reforms and keep the wheel of progress moving in the paramount interest of

the Karachi Club. I also express my big thanks and appreciations to entire MC members and

worthy members of the club for their valuable proposals, guidance and input during my tenureas

without which it would have not been possible for us to achieve the desired goals.

May Allah bless us all and keep us in his good protection.

Dear Members,

It has been my pleasure and privilege to serve as Honorary Secretary of KarachiClub third time - an organization that has a long and distinguished history ofmore than hundred years. No organization is driven by one individual but itdriven by many willing of their time and talent, therefore my Managing Committeeand Sub-Committee members’ deserves huge appreciation for their dedications,

significant contribution, support through out year to carry this club forward and making manyprojects successful.

By the grace of Almighty Allah, we have made significant improvement and expansion in existingamenities and introduced new services, resolved pending issues diligently with collective wisdom.There is so much to cerebrate particularly I am glad to accentuate that our extension project hasrestarted after High Court of Sindh Karachi disposed of neighbor stay order-club future lies on thismega project so its rapid completion is key concern of your MC. New equipments obtained forladies/gents gyms, launched KC mobile app, tablet point of sale system is ready and in process ofintegration with CMS Service, makeover children playing area. Kitchen losses cut down to drasticlevel by effective monitoring and controlling overheads, the prices of food items did not revisethough inflation and constant devaluation in rupees played crucial role in price climb. Enhanceddining facility in Annexe to accommodate maximum members and enriched ambiance of theAnnexe. Main focus of your MC remained on harmonization and joint consensus in decision making,strict adherence of rules and bylaws, maintaining discipline, transparency and merit on appointingcontractors/suppliers.

During the year many entertainment programs, musical shows, seminars on health and finance,food festivals organized, to keep members and their children instrumental physically sportstournaments comprising tape ball cricket tournament, tennis summer coaching camp, swimmingfun gala, kids night out, kids painting competition arranged, on the other hand seminars on USinvestor immigration, Islamic Investment, seminars on health diabetics, common liver, cardiacdiseases prevention, Taleem-e-Balighan, Mazahiya Mushaira, Shab-e-Geet-o-Ghazal, grand guizrama show, invited renowned scholars, intellectual, academicians, doctors and financial experts forsharing their knowledge and lectures.

Last but not the least, I extend my whole-hearted thanks to President Muhammad Hanif Lakhany,MC members and honorable members for their overwhelmed support and beholden to staff fortheir hard work, commitment towards their duty with honesty and sincerity.

Karachi Club and Sindh Tennis Association are keento work closely in future events, to support nationaland international tennis in Karachi Club.Tennis

Karachi Club sponsored the first national tennistournament for the year 2018, where talentedyoungsters from all across the country came andplayed some extraordinary tennis. The tournamentdirector, Ali Mansoor Zaidi along with Khalid Rehmani,Chairman Sindhi Tennis Association organized thetournament. Many players from Karachi Club alsoparticipated in the tournament.

Badminton

Karachi Club Badminton Committee organized FriendlyBadminton matches with Creek Club’s Senior on Thursday,1st November 2018. Creek Club team played very well andwon the title by 3-0. Honorary Secretary Karachi Club,Muhammad Yousuf Suleman & Secretary Badminton,Muhammad Dawood awarded the trophy to the winningteam. The match was followed by dinner.


Club Kitchen

The monthly food festivals organized by the Kitchen Convenor, Farhan Wahab Lakhany aremuch awaited. Members plan their family programs accordingly. This month the committeedecided to bring to the members the different varieties of the Fast Food which are not commonlyavailable on the club menu.

Items such as Crispy Broast, Hunter beef Burger, Fired Hunter Chicken Platter and Potomatoeswere served to the liking of the members. Live music and different fast food varieties which wegenerally enjoy at national chains gave a different picture of the Club. Well done Kitchencommittee and we await next food festival.

Mehreen followed by soulful naats by Marium andIffat. Dars was given by Afshan on Uswa-e-Husana ofProphet Muhammad (SAW). Mrs. Lakhani wife ofPresident of the Karachi Club was the Chief Guestalong with Mrs. Aqeel Karim Dhedhi. The Ladies of theclub attended in large numbers. Sweets weredistributed at the end of the program. Special thanksto Jameela Sheikhani, Kausar Ali Khan, Naheed Shiwaniand Amber Columbo for organizing the event.

As per tradition of Karachi Club Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi(SAW) was celebrated with usual fervor and faith onFriday, 23rd November 2018 at Karachi Club (Main).The program started with Hamd-e-Bari Tala by

Karachi Club Health & Fitness Committee under theconvenership of Amin Merchant arranged a FreeHijama Camp for the first time in Karachi Club for allKarachi Club members on Sunday, 18th November2018 at Karachi Club Annexe. The Hijama camp wasconducted and sponsored by H.U.S.R (Hijama Unionof Sunnah Raisers). More than 200 membersparticipated in this camp and benefited. They alsooffered free Sugar, Cholesterol and B.M.D Tests whichwas well appreciated by members.

The contribution of Karachi Club for the promotion ofMind & Sports has been remarkable. Our BridgeConvenor Haresh Kumar Parwani and his committeerecently organized its yearly tournament KC BridgeCongress 2018 as many as seniors members from thebridge family across the city participated in the event.The winner were awarded cash prizes and trophies byHonorary Secretary Karachi Club, Muhammad YousufSuleman, Convenor Bridge, Haresh Kumar Parwani,Secretary Bridge Akbar Hayat Khan.

In Pair Event Asghar Abbas & Hussain Jaffar secured1st Position while 1st Runners up Khaled Mohiuddin

& Mubashir Puri and Hamed Mohiuddin & ZiaullahBeg were 2nd Runners up. In Team Event Puri RealEstate team stood 1st Position comprising MirzaZiaullah Beg, Hamed Mohiuddin, Khaled Mohiuddinand Muhammad Mubashir Puri.

Entertainment

The Entertainment Committee of Karachi Club and itsConvenor, Irfan Ayub organized a musical evening onSaturday, 24th November 2018 to honour the legendof music Shahenshah-e-Ghazal, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.The programme started with performances by AyshaAli, Mehak Ali, Muhammed Razi and Riffat Sheikh who

enthralled the audience with a medley of old and newmemorable melodies.

Later Mussawir Abbas Nusrat took the stage to give abefitting tribute to the iconic singer with his powerfulvoice reviving the memories of the late singer.

President Karachi Club, Muhammad Hanif Lakhani andmembers of Managing Committee were present andappreciated the program.

Health & Fitness

Karachi Club Health & Fitness Committee incollaboration with Vision Trust Hospital had organizeda Free Medical Camp for Karachi Club Members andStaff on Tuesday, 13th November 2018 at Karachi Club(Main) wherein they were offered free OPD Checkup,medical tests such as Hepatitis B & C, CBC, Eye Testand Widal Test. The medical camp was well organizedwhich was appreciated by members who availed thisopportunity for free of cost. Honorary Secretary KarachiClub, Muhammad Yousuf Suleman also participated

in the medical camp and appreciates. All Credit goesto Amin Merchant, Convenor Health & FitnessCommittee.

Health & FitnessOn 29th November, Amin Merchant, Convenor Health &Fitness Committee along with his sub-committee organizedyet another important health awareness session by Dr. AliAsghar (Consultant Endocrinologist - Liaquat NationalHospital) in collaboration with OBS Pakistan at Karachi Club(Main) Lawn. As usual the session was such a hit that rightfrom beginning. Dr. Asghar gave a comprehensive talk onthe subject and most members took a wealth of informationhome. On the occasion, the Chief Guest, Shiraz Thaver alsoshared his thoughts and his words of encouragement werean inspiration to all of us.

After the seminar members were treated to a dinner whichwas also widely appreciated.


Club

The Managing Committee under Rule No.41 convened Extra-Ordinary Meeting(EOGBM) on 30th November 2018, of Life& Permanent members of Karachi Club inthe main lawn. The meeting was attendedby large number of life and permanentmembers. The core object of the meetingwas to converse and resolve proposedamendments in rules by the Managing

Committee. The house deliberated onsuggested rules comprehensively, some ofthe members raised their concerns onincrease in monthly subscription and othercharges, hence it decided to defer proposedAnnexe-A which is related to membershipfees, monthly subscription for AGM,however, the house unanimously agreedon amnesty scheme for reinstatement ofmembers whose membership wereterminated on account of non-payment ofclub dues. Dinner were served uponconclusion of the meeting.

Another Squash Tournament organized by Squash Committee during the month of November 2018.Chief Guest, Acting Honorary Secretary, Irfan Ayub and Member Managing Committee, Anwar UmerJamal along with Squash Secretary, Zohaib Nasir grace the prize distribution ceremony held onWednesday, 21st November 2018.

60 VOTING PROCEDURE

60.1 The voter shall be supplied with printed ballot paperor electronic balloting with names of the candidatesas appearing in the club record. Each voter shalleither mark � or � opposite the name of thecandidate for which he/she intends to vote for.Ballot paper shall be put in the box provided forthe purpose.

60.2 A voter shall only give one vote to each candidatenominated for the respective position. Number ofvotes shall not be more or less than the number ofcandidates to be elected, otherwise the vote shallstand rejected.

60.3 The ballot boxes or electronic record shall be sealedbefore the commencement of balloting in presenceof any candidate who wishes to be present. Thebox or electronic record shall be removed and placedin the custody of the Chief Scrutinizer and ScrutinyCommittee at the close of balloting to ensuretransparency.

61 SCRUTINY COMMITTEE

61.1 Before commencement of balloting the ChiefScrutinizer appointed under rule 33.8 shall appointup to (12) twelve Life/Permanent members asscrutinizers apart from Senior Deputy Chief Scrutinizerand Deputy Chief Scrutinizer.

61.2 The duties of the scrutinizers shall be as follows:

(a) To have complete command over the election process,including but not limited to issuance of nominationforms, receiving nomination forms, receivingwithdrawal, performing scrutiny of eligibility ofcandidates, receiving and resolving electioncomplaints by candidates and other matters incidentalthereto in connection with elections.

b) The scrutinizers shall hold a vote valid even if thevoter has not strictly complied with the procedureherein if they are of the opinion that the voter hasunambiguously expressed his/her intention in markingthe ballot paper.

(c) To allow any candidate, his proposer, seconder ornominee to be present at the time of counting toensure that the votes are being ascertained andrecorded correctly.

d) The scrutinizers shall prepare a statement showingthe names and number of votes secured by eachcandidate. The names of the candidates havingsecured the highest number of votes shall appearfirst, the name of the candidate having secured thesecond highest number votes shall appear secondand so forth.

(e) The statement shall then be delivered to the ChiefScrutinizer who shall then announce the result ofthe election.

(f) In case the result of the ballot is a tie of (2) two ormore candidates for the same office having obtainedan equal number of votes, the result shall be declaredby draw of lot.

g) Any question(s) pertaining to the election not coveredin these rules shall be decided by the Chief Scrutinizer.

(h) Votes cast will be sealed by the Chief of ScrutinyCommittee and are required to be kept in custodyof the elected Honorary Secretary for three monthsfrom the date of elections. These will be destroyedafter expiry of the said period in the presence ofManaging Committee provided there is no dispute(s)and/or appeal(s) is pending.

(i) On Elections Day Temporary / Lady / Daughter /Daughter Members’ Children / Additional Classes ofmembers or guests or wives and children of allmembers including Life and Permanent membersare not allowed to enter “Designated Election Area”where elections are being held till completionof voting.

62 VALIDITY OF ELECTIONS

If vacancy occurs at any time before the first day ofOctober for the post of President or Honorary Secretary,the continuing members of Managing Committee shallcause fresh elections to be held as soon as possible butnot exceeding (60) sixty days from the date of vacancy.Such elections shall be held in a manner similar to AnnualGeneral Elections. All acts of the Managing Committeeshall be valid till the new President/Honorary Secretaryis elected.
