University of San Diego Spring 2016, Issue 3 We love CASA! The weekend of April 8-10 was our annual Mom’s Weekend. Members loved having our moms visit for the weekend and showing them a taste of our lives at USD. Activities included an evening with appetizers, a painting class, and a delicious brunch. This is always one of our favorite weekends of the year! Our annual philanthropy event, Mr. University, was on April 13 th . This event is a male beauty pageant, in which contestants representing different fraternities and clubs on campus compete in talent, formal wear, and interview competitions, all while raising money for our great philanthropies. This sold-out show was a blast to watch. In the end, we raised about $15,00 for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), and the Theta Foundation. We know that this money will have a big impact on children in the foster care system and on Theta’s in need. We are very grateful for the support we received throughout all of this from our campus community, parents, friends, and beyond. The University of San Diego held elections for Associated Students, our student government, on April 19 th . We are so proud of our sister, Danielle Priore, for being elected as the Associated Students Vice President for the 2016-2017 school year! On April 23 rd , there was a walk in San Diego for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Eleven of our sisters attended this walk together to support this important cause. Also on April 23 rd , we had some of our sisters throw a birthday party for residents at Nazareth House, a local retirement home. We celebrated all of the residents with April birthdays with chocolate, and got to talk to many residents and hear all of their interesting stories. Throughout the spring, all of the sororities at USD have participated in the Men’s Tennis Challenge. The sorority that had the highest attendance at home men’s tennis matches won $400 to their philanthropy, and Theta won!
