OVERVIEW Being from Kansas, we all know the story of a Kansas hero, Servant of God Fr. Emil J. Kapaun from Pilsen. Fr. Kapaun served as an Army Chaplain in World War II and the Korean War. He was captured by the Chinese in November 1950 along with his unit and marched 87 miles to Prison Camp 5 near Pyoktong, North Korea. While imprisoned, he came to be known as the good thief because of how he would take food and supplies from his captors to help his fellow prisoners. He would secretly hold services and continue to uphold his priestly duties. While the date is not known, he once said that “Christ’s works testified to who he was; our works will testify to who we are.” When you think about what the Kansas Knights of Columbus has done over the past 120 years, especially this past year during the Covid-19 pandemic, what we are going to continue to do in the future, especially when the unborn are at risk, when religious freedom is under attack and when our priests and religious are under attack, the work we put in, will tell the future, who we were. In the spirit of Fr. Kapaun, especially with him finally coming back to the land that he loved so much, Kansas, our theme for this fraternal year is, “Our Works Testify!”

Each Regional Chairman is here to work with you and help councils in recruiting new members, retaining existing members, identify opportunities to form new councils and to establish Round Tables. They are also ready, willing, and able to help with programming. The team philosophy is how can we help a council achieve Star Council if the Membership Team is focused solely on membership? The answer is simple; the team will be there to help in ANY way that they can.

CEREMONIALS “OUR WORKS TESTIFY!”

“Our Works Testify!” Through ceremonials a candidate will form his first impression of the Knights of Columbus. This impression will be a lasting one and may well determine a candidate’s eagerness to become an active or passive member of your council. Therefore, it is recommended that all ceremonials should be professionally presented to ensure that the candidate is properly edified.

Beginning in January of 2020, the Supreme Council published the “Exemplification of Charity, Unity and Fraternity.” This combined degree is so revolutionary that it works with that person’s schedule who says, “I don’t have time to spend all day at a ceremony.” It also takes away the secrecy so that our families and friends can witness. While it can be done in the Council/Parish Hall, it is designed to be performed in the Church itself. The new degree calls for a smaller team with much smaller speaking parts. It exemplifies the lessons of Charity, Unity and Fraternity in a quicker, no nonsense way that gets right to the point. Regardless if presented from memory or read from the script, the degree must be professionally presented. This degree also makes the member a Third-Degree member allowing them to take on a leadership role if they are ready, right away.

The goal is for every council in Kansas to have an Exemplification team that can put on a degree same as when we had the Admissions Degree. The grand knight and financial secretary have access to the script through Officers Online as well as the prepared video. To conduct an effective Exemplification of Charity, Unity and Fraternity, a council sets a date and location and then recruits to that. Do not wait to have a candidate and then set the date. Process the candidates through E-Member, the traditional Form 100 or the Candidates Tab in Officers Online immediately. Remember that NO candidate should attend or watch the Exemplification without his Proposer present.

There is limited equipment needed to host an Exemplification: ceremonial baldrics (purchased through The English Company), rosary & crucifix for the lesson on Charity, cable & fiber for the lesson on Unity, New Candidate Kits ordered through Supreme and copies of the Prayer of Canonization of Blessed Michael McGivney. Do not let the lack of ceremonial baldrics stop you from hosting an Exemplification.

The Supreme Councils Circle of Honor requirement is that there be one Exemplification, per District, per quarter and one Exemplification, per Diocese, per month. The State Council has devised a schedule of when districts are required to host Exemplifications. The schedule is on the following page for your reference. If interested in hosting your district’s Exemplification, contact your district deputy. There is only one way for one of the required Exemplifications to be cancelled, the district deputy will call me with all the details. I will then call the State Deputy and discuss our options. The decision of myself and the State Deputy are final.

To continue the works that Blessed Michael McGivney envisioned, we must continue to recruit and have frequent degrees. The State Membership team is committed to helping your council Exemplify the principles of Charity, Unity and Fraternity.

Respectfully Submitted,

Ed Miller State Membership Director [email protected] (785) 304-2715

E-MEMBERhttp://www.kofc.org/joinus

“OUR WORKS TESTIFY!” Prospective new members can join the Knights via the E-Member program from the comfort of their own homes. During the pandemic, the E-Member program was our life saver in Kansas and across the Order. The Supreme Council has seen this and has granted the use of the MCGIVNEY2020 promotion code through December 31, 2021. With this code, men are able to join the Order for FREE when normally there is a $30 charge. This is a blessing that they are continuing this code and we MUST take advantage of it. For those men who are in the seminary, there is a special code they can use as well, SEMINARIAN. With this code, they not only join for free, it allows their council to be exempt from state and supreme per-capita. Once the Seminarian is ordained, the council submits proof of ordination, and they are made an Honorary Life member.

When recruiting a new Knight into the E-Member program, be sure to have the online member enter the proposer’s membership number. It can be entered in the Officers Online later, but that member will NOT get credit. If the recruiting member is striving to be the top recruiter in his council’s division at the state level, he must make sure that his membership number is included with the online member application. The new online member MUST be 18 years old. In addition, if the online member wishes to transfer into a local council, the grand knight and the regional membership chairman will receive an e-mail from me once the member has been officially assigned to that council. The e-mail will contain his contact information so your council can contact him.

Remember that E-Member does NOT change the requirements for membership. That member is still required to be a practical Catholic as defined by the Church. Attending a degree ceremonial is mandatory for transferring into a local council. Dues collected by Supreme will eventually be credited to the council for that member. Those men who join as an online member will receive from Supreme a welcome package, program and event descriptions, Columbia Magazine, Insurance, Accidental Death Coverage, Annual Financial Review, Membership Communications, and may attend council meetings (cannot vote and not able to hold an office).

STATE RECRUITMENT PROGRAM “OUR WORKS TESTIFY”

Without continued membership growth, we as a fraternity cannot continue to survive. We must continue to find good eligible Catholic men willing to help us carry out our main principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. We also need continued membership growth to continue our support for our priests, parishes, and our communities.

To be successful and to reach your membership goals your council must start recruitment at the beginning of the Fraternal Year and continue throughout the year. Recruitment should start with the appointment of a dedicated Membership Director and an equally dedicated membership team. After a membership team has been formed, build a new member prospect list. Look at all avenues for prospects. Compare your parish roster with your Knights council membership roster, adding names of those men not currently Knights. Add eligible RCIA and High School candidates to your list as well. Catholic High Schools are a great avenue for new members. High School seniors, youth groups, and alter servers are potential prospects. Invite new parishioners to join your councils. Invite family members, neighbors, and friends to join the Knights. Conduct Delta Church drives in October and again in March. Use all council functions as recruitment opportunities. Ask your council Field Agent to help as they are trained in recruiting. Do not overlook asking former members to rejoin your council. In all your recruiting efforts do not forget to recruit the Family and get them involved in council activities. Utilize spouses to help recruit prospects and their families. Most importantly, use face to face contact with new prospects as this has proven an important recruitment tool.

The State Membership Team wants you to be successful. Achieving the prestigious Star Council award should be the goal of every council. Our team is here to help you attain not only your council recruiting goals, but your programming goals as well. An Exemplification Schedule as been prepared by the State Council to assist you in reaching your membership goals.

NEW COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT“OUR WORKS TESTIFY!”

Is your council currently serving more than one parish? Do you have underserved communities inside a parish or a district that could benefit from forming a new council? Blessed Michael McGivney’s vision was a council in every parish. That vision is timeless. Participating in the formation of a new council is a rewarding experience.

Initiating a council always begins with the pastor. Once you have his interest and support, enlist your district deputy, state membership and state deputy. These gentlemen will provide all the support needed to help you take a new council from a vision to reality.

Completing forms to initiate a new council is simple. You begin by completing Form 133 Notice of Intent to Establish. This will start the process with supreme, and you will receive a new council development kit. This kit will provide all necessary items for promoting and recruiting toward this new council.

Once, the new council has 20 new members, the district deputy will then complete the Form 136 Notice of Institution of New Council. When submitting this form, include all form 100’s of new members and transfers into this new council. The council number to be included on the form 100 is “NCD”, for new council development. The district deputy should sign the form 100’s where the financial secretary and grand knight signatures appear. The council should elect officers and report them to supreme on Form 185 Report of Officers Chosen for Term as soon as possible.

Approximately one month after the institution of the new council, supreme will send a $200 check to the district deputy, who in turn will provide those funds to the new council as seed money to help offset the startup costs.

After officer’s roles are filled, the initial meetings of a new council can be used to plan annual program events such as tootsie roll drives. You can also plan parish and community activities such as fish fries, pancake breakfasts, etc. In doing so you will help identify potential council chairman, facilitate involvement by all council members and create great recruiting opportunities.

PARISH ROUNDTABLE PROGRAM “OUR WORKS TESTIFY!”

Does your parish know what the Knights of Columbus has to offer? We are Catholic gentlemen who promote the Catholic faith. We work tirelessly for our parishes. If your council has a nearby parish without a K of C council, we ask that you investigate starting a roundtable by talking to the parish priest. The people of the parish need to understand the good works we can and will do. Look in the mirror and ask yourself if YOU are doing all that you can? For more information contact your district deputy or anyone on the membership team. God Bless!

"¡NUESTRAS OBRAS TESTIFICAN!"

With the continued growth of Hispanic population in Kansas, we need to start and continue recruiting these eligible Catholic men. There is unlimited potential in areas across Kansas that could increase, not just the Hispanic membership, but the Kansas membership overall. We are continuing to develop a strategy to recruit and start councils in Hays, Garden City, Dodge City, Pittsburg, Wichita, and Kansas City. This past fraternal year we started Blessed Michael McGivney Holy Cross Overland Park Council # 17620 and The Virgin Mary of Guadalupe Council # 17722 in Salina. If you have an area that you would like to see Hispanic recruitment done in, please let us know and we would be more than happy to help. I am also here to help translate any material that you may need to help recruit those potential Brothers.

COLLEGE COUNCILS “OUR WORKS TESTIFY!”

The average age of a Knights of Columbus member in Kansas is around 58. That number should alarm us! It tells us that we have a continued need to bring younger, college aged men into the Order to keep new ideas flowing into our councils. K of C college councils are an integral part of accomplishing this goal. College councils should strive to work diligently alongside their pastor, Newman Centers, and Campus Ministry Offices to help contribute to Catholic life on campus through service, social activities, and opportunities for faith formation.

College Councils face a unique issue not as prevalent in normal councils. Their membership changes drastically every year, with an almost complete turnover every four to five years. They also have a unique advantage, a new population of potential members each semester. This gives them a greater chance to achieve the Century Club distinction. The Century Club award is given to a council with a net gain of 100 members in a given fraternal year. Ten members in a year can replace a team of officers, but the benefits of 100 recruits to your campus and Newman Center would be enormous! Never limit yourself in the expansion of our brotherhood of Knights.

Every College Council should send at least two delegates to the College Council Conference held annually in New Haven, Connecticut. This year’s Convention will be held September 24th-26th. The Supreme Council will cover travel, meals, and lodging costs for two students and the council chaplain from each college council. It was truly a one-of-a-kind experience when I was selected as a representative and changed my perceptions of what being a Knight is all about.

The State Council will be conducting individual visits to each of the college councils throughout the fraternal year. In addition to this, a Leadership Conference will be hosted by the State Council in August or September 2021 and a Spiritual Retreat will be held in February 2022. The State Council will cover the conference fee for any student, council chaplain, or financial secretary to the two conferences hosted each semester. By attending, you get the opportunity to further grow your fraternity with younger K of C members in your home state.

The purpose of a college council is to have the vast majority of members be college students and hold all elected offices. One requirement is that the financial secretary NOT be an undergraduate student. If he is an alumnus of the university or has ties to it, then that is an added bonus! He will be the bridge from year to year and provide continuity and valuable experience for the council.

YOUNG ADULT OUTREACH & RECRUITING

What made you want to join the Knights of Columbus? Was it your dad, an opportunity to grow your faith, or the fourth-degree uniform that really sparked your interest? Or did you want a chance to build fraternal friendships with men in your parish in a welcoming Catholic environment? Young adults inside and outside of the order are searching for some or all these things too. A place to practice their faith, participate in service, and most of all build relationships with men and families their age that will last a lifetime.

There are a few things you should ask yourselves before you start recruiting more young adults in your councils. Are the young adults you currently have active members or leaders in the council? If they are, it will send a positive message to their peers and help bring new young Catholic men into the Order. Encourage young members to hold offices and voice their ideas.

Encourage your young members to be involved in the planning and execution of public events like the Tootsie Roll Drive, breakfasts, and other council activities. Then, they can meet other young future brother Knights and convince them to join our Knights family. Having them at parish events other than just Knights events (bible studies, church service activities, school events) can be powerful as well. Participating in the Mass as ushers, lectors, cantors, should be a priority! Visibility and recognition are important to keeping and growing interest in our Order. Having a solid group of young men in your councils will lead to council growth in our Order.

I ask you to remember that these men are just starting their families and careers. Offer them the support they need. Host open meetings occasionally so they can bring their kids with them and still participate in your council meetings. Councils should also try to get a youth group in the church to help watch the kids, while still complying with the safe environment requirements. Remember, we are a Catholic Family Fraternal Organization.

The young men in our parishes, along with their families, are the future of our Order. Show them God’s love, be open to their suggestions, and encourage them to be active! A little effort now can reap bountiful rewards in the future.

RETENTION PROGRAM “OUR WORKS TESTIFY!”

The Kansas Knights of Columbus 2021-2022 retention goal is to grow the order by reducing the number of suspensions.

To reduce suspensions, it needs to be every member’s priority to involve every Catholic gentleman in their parish and community, showing the charitable acts that make this a great and exciting order. Active members are more likely to pay their dues! Active members help testify what the Knights of Columbus are about.

This is done by inviting members to participate in activities, showing the great works of the order, asking them to attend a family orientated degree, and then be open to new ideas and new activities that new members bring forward to the council. Remember the principles of the order, Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism.

Sometimes, members stop participating or move. The unfortunate fact, this happens every day. But this should not hinder what we do as brother Knights, nor should we leave them behind. During your council meetings, discuss how to bring these fallen Knights back to be active within the order. Work on a way to communicate with all members during this pandemic. If a brother Knight has moved, or is in the process of moving, communicate with the Financial Secretary and Retention Chairman so that they can contact them and fill out the proper paperwork to transfer the member so they can continue to be active in their new council/parish/community. If a member has moved and not provided new address or phone number, please contact the State Retention Chairman as he can help search for a member.

Financial Secretary’s must follow the correct billing procedure for dues. If a member becomes delinquent on his dues, follow the retention procedures outlined in the “Proper Billing Procedure including use of the Notice of Intent to Retain” (Form 1845A). The council should discuss waiving dues for all active duty military personnel, members attending college or unable to pay dues because of financial hardship/disability. The young members are our future and we should help them get started on the right foot.

Utilize a Retention Chairman and Committee that meets each month either prior, or after the council meeting. They should be reaching out to brother Knights who have fallen behind and asking them what can be done to get that Brother active again. Remember, it is not the responsibility of the Financial Secretary to contact delinquent members, it is the job of not only the Retention Chairman and Retention Committee, but also the entire council to take an active part in communicating to get that delinquent member back to active status. The Retention Chairman must be listed on the Form 365 Service Program Personal Report.

We all must take a part to keep members active. Activities that worked in the past may not work in the future. Creating a positive environment helps to allow the council to do more great works. Remember, “Our Works Testify.” As State Retention Chairman, I am here to help.

INSURANCE AGENCY REPORT

The Knights of Columbus Insurance Agency has had and continues to experience great success in providing valuable benefits to our members.

The Kansas Agency is pleased to welcome the following men as appointed field agents for this past fraternal year 2020-2021. The Reed agency added Cody Honas from Ellis, KS. The Schafer agency has added Landon Grams from Wichita, KS this past year. The Mahon Agency has added Raymond Garretson, Adrian Velazquez, Jason Murphy and Ben Krapu to the Kansas City metro area. Raymond Garretson was selected as the 2020 Knights of Columbus Rookie of the Year.

These men are completing their training programs and are currently serving your members in their respective councils. Please join in welcoming them into our family. Let’s help them be successful in their quest of fulfilling Fr McGivney’s vision and encourage your brother Knights to visit these new agents.

We finished 2020 exceeding 2019 in sales despite the challenges dealing with the pandemic. Our virtual appointment platform has been highly successful and has been fully embraced by all parties involved. Your Agencies have also introduced Virtual Fraternal Benefit nights and have thus far had much success. Every council in Kansas has had the opportunity to partake in these Benefit Nights and we will continue having them throughout the next fraternal year.

The Kansas agencies had a successful year with the Pierce agency finishing number 1 in the Order, followed by the Mahon agency finishing 17th, the Reed agency, 21st and the Schafer agency, 38th.

The Agencies in the state of Kansas placed over 2,230 policies and $303,617,000 million of life insurance coverage ion 2020. Our state has $4,703,162,439 of total Knights of Columbus Life Insurance in force and is ranked 5th in total insurance in force for all jurisdictions. We could not have accomplished this without the support of you, our fraternal leaders.

Recruitment is the lifeblood of the Order. Your agents are trained from the very beginning to recruit and to work with their councils to help them recruit new members while doing what is best for the membership. Please encourage your grand knights and membership directors to work closely with their field agents in you recruiting efforts. The field agents in Kansas have fully embraced e-membership and know how best to utilize this important tool. Additionally, be sure to make your councils aware that the agent needs to be informed of any degree work that is scheduled in the councils. It is imperative for financial secretaries to inform the agents of a member or a member’s family members death.

There are exciting changes in store for our Order. The future is bright for the Knights of Columbus in Kansas and your agents look forward to progressing side by side with you into that future. We are not two sides of the same coin but the same side of the coin in the mission of fulfilling Fr McGivney’s vision.

In closing thank you for your continued support in helping our field agents to be successful in your councils.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR REPORT

Faith in Action is once again the programming model for the 2021-2022 fraternal year.

The reports in this Program and Membership Guide should assist district deputies, grand knights, and council chairmen in planning their programs. Throughout the year, the state directors and chairmen will communicate with you and help with each program. Feel free to call the director or chairman if you have any questions on a given program.

Achieving the Star Council Award should be the primary goal for every council. For achievement, your council must meet the requirements for membership (Father McGivney Award), Insurance (Founders Award), programming (Columbian Award) and submit the Annual Survey of Fraternal Activity (Form 1728) due by Jan. 31, 2022. This year’s Columbian Award requirements are as follows:

1) Complete at least four program credits in each of the Faith in Action categories2) Submit the Service Program Personnel Report (Form 365) due by Aug. 1, 20213) Submit the Columbian Award Application (Form SP-7) due by June 30, 2022

For assistance in completing the SP-7 and 1728 forms, the Supreme Council is now offering an online reporting form (Form 10784). This form has been developed, implemented and is now the required form for most of the programming reports. Contact any of the directors and chairman for help in getting to know and understand the form 10784.

Supreme Council Service Awards will be given to the best single council activity in each of the four programming areas. To enter your council’s activity, a scrapbook should be compiled and forwarded to the appropriate director by April 1, 2022. Remember, an activity may be submitted in only one category. When deciding which category to enter a scrapbook, simply ask: Who benefits from this activity? The answer to this question tells you which category to enter the scrapbook. Please refer to page 16 for additional information on scrapbooks.

The 2021-2022 fraternal year is one of the most important years in our history. Many programs have gone dormant due to the pandemic and now we must push forward and re-engage with our neighbors and brother Knights. As we continue to push Covid-19 out the door, let us usher in a new wave of programming as we continue to put our Faith in Action by letting our works testify that all of us are proud to be Catholic and proud to be members of the Knights of Columbus!

SCRAPBOOKS

What is a Project/Program /Activity Scrapbook? It is a showcase to present your council’s project or activity for consideration of a State service award. A scrapbook includes ONE specific project or activity for that year from the council. The scrapbook does not cover a group of multiple activities combined. The State winner in each program area is then submitted to the Supreme Council and entered in the International level competition.

What Form does it take? You can use whatever format of book, scrapbook, 3 ring binder, report cover or other style the council would like to use.

What do I include in the scrapbook? Anything and everything, within reason, that will “Tell the Story” of your council’s project or activity. Elements you want to consider including are as follows: The submission form can be found online at www.kofc.org/forms (Required) (Form STSP)

Newspaper articles

A brief 1 or 2 paragraph summary Photographs Statement of council project or activity in detail

Church bulletin write ups

Number of members participating Anything else that can support, promote or enhance the story.

Numbers of hours donated by members Letters of support or thanks Costs involved Results of the project or activity Funds raised

How do I decide when to start the scrapbook? The best time to plan the scrapbook is at the beginning of the fraternal year when the council maps out its programs and activities for the year. You then will have adequate time to acquire all of the necessary records, photographs, articles, and other material to include in the scrapbook as the project or activity is being organized and implemented. Assign council members to oversee the process. Completing the scrapbook right after the event works well. You can even complete the process and send it to the correct department at that time. Why wait till the deadline?

What area do I submit the scrapbook in? Each scrapbook can only be submitted in one program area. By answering the following questions, you can determine the correct program area and which Director to submit it to for consideration. “Who benefited from the project or activity?” “Was it Family, Community, Faith or Life?” Which category? Contact your DD for questions or direction.

FAMILY

Blessed Michael McGivney sought to strengthen the bonds of families in his parish and the Knights of Columbus. These programs help us to achieve the original goals he established for the Knights. Catholics often struggle with limited opportunities to socialize and/or pray with other faith-filled Catholic families. It can be quite a challenge to continue to ground ourselves and raise our children in the faith when there is such limited exposure. Put simply, programs in the category are developed for families, by families.

The Knights of Columbus parish-based councils today are not only places that provide invaluable support to parish life in terms of charitable and social activities, they also are a primary place to support the evangelization of family life through the mission of the domestic church. Councils can do this by more fully integrating families into the life of the parish through the many programs of parish-based councils.

- Past Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson

FAMILY DIRECTOR: Kevin R. Roberts COUNCIL ACTIVITIES CHAIRMAN: Mike Baalmann

All councils are encouraged to prepare a scrapbook containing photos and a detailed description of a favorite family activity. The scrapbook should be submitted to the Family Director by April 1, 2022. Three scrapbooks will be chosen from the entries to be recognized at the state convention. The one judged best will be forwarded to Supreme for consideration for international awards.

FAMILY PROGRAMS

As knights, we must invite all families to become involved in their parish and community and encourage families to find quality time to talk and be active together.

CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY FAMILY

Invite families of their parish to offer the prayer of Consecration to the Holy Family through which families invoke the protection of the Holy Family. Preparing for the Consecration to the Holy Family is not a single event. It is choosing a way of life for your family. Through this consecration, each participant is consciously choosing to be a beacon of God’s love through His Church. A traditional recommendation is that this takes place on the feast of the Holy Family, typically the first Sunday after Christmas.

FAMILY OF THE MONTH The Family of the Month program is designed to honor a family for their service to Church, community, and council throughout each month of the fraternal year. Councils should select one of their deserving families, document their efforts on the Family of the Month Entry form, and present the family with a certificate of recognition (form 1843) at the mass they normally attend.

To allow the family to be recognized by the Supreme Council, submit your monthly selection on the Faith in Action Fraternal Programs Report Form (#10784) to the Supreme Council before the 15th of the following month. You will receive a copy of the information provided via a PDF document sent to your email, please forward this to the Kansas Family Director. From those forms submitted by the deadline, the Supreme Council will randomly select 100 families to receive a Holy Family Plaque, along with a congratulatory letter from our Supreme Knight.

FAMILY OF THE YEAR All councils should select a Family of the Year from their monthly winners, complete the form online, and submit it to their district deputy no later than March 10. He will select a district winner from the entries received from the councils in his district and submit the entry to the diocesan judge (who will be announced via email in January) no later than March 20. Winners will be recognized at the state convention in May. The State Family of the Year winner will be forwarded to the Supreme Council for the International Family of the Year competition.

COMMUNITY

As Knights of Columbus, we are called to serve our family and our God. Our first principle is Charity, at home with our families or in our communities. This is a critical part of our Knights of Columbus mission. Have you ever wondered, “How can I make my community better?” Individuals can do great things on their own but there is something bigger than self when Knights of Columbus members come together as one through their council and accomplish great things. Councils that conduct these programs are positively shaping their communities by addressing the needs of its citizens. For Community program resources, visit kofc.org/community.

Community Activity Programs are designed to support and give hope to our fellow man and to our communities. The most important part of Community Activities is becoming a volunteer. Your council will create a greater image in your community and will create a good recruiting tool for new members. Your work and action could encourage other eligible Catholic men to join our Order.

Community Director: Travis Wurtz Publicity/Fraternal Chairman: Eric Sevart

Pennies from Heaven Chairman: Travis Wurtz Youth Activities Chairman: Gary Shinliver

A Community Activity Scrapbook Award will be given to the council who has the best Community Activity Project. Start saving your pictures, articles and notes and send me your project in scrapbook form NO LATER THAN APRIL 1, 2022. The State winner will be entered in the Supreme Service Awards Program. If you have any questions concerning any of the Community Activity Programs, feel free to contact any of the Chairmen for advice.

For more Information about all the Supreme programs, go to www.kofc.org/faithinaction. There are guide sheets for each individual program.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES PROGRAM

Helping Hands In the model of our founder, Father McGivney, councils will lead efforts to assist those most in need. The Helping Hands program is designed to recognize the important work many councils already do to care for the most disadvantaged members of our communities — the homeless, the addicted, the elderly who may feel isolated and abandoned, and many others. Through this program, councils will aid the needy through the activities they feel best suit their community, such as serving at or running a soup kitchen, repairing the facilities of a local service organization or something entirely unique. The requirements for this program are very broad in order to allow councils to serve their community in whatever way is most needed. Council participation in Helping Hands is required to qualify for the Columbian award.

Global Wheelchair Mission (FEATURED PROGRAM) The Knights of Columbus has partnered with the Global Wheelchair Mission since 2009 with the goal of providing wheelchairs to all those who lack the freedom of mobility, changing the lives of people with disabilities in our communities and around the worldwide. Working with the global wheelchair mission is a perfect opportunity to put your faith into action and involve the entire parish in the rewarding charitable work done by your council. Councils are encouraged to raise funds and make donations to purchase deeply discounted wheelchairs. Through collaboration with other councils, councils can purchase a large container of 110 to 280 wheelchairs. A featured program, global wheelchair mission counts for two credits toward the Columbian award. Today, this initiative started in the United States has expanded into Canada through partnership with the Canadian wheelchair Foundation. Councils must complete associated reporting forms to qualify for a featured program.

Habitat for Humanity (FEATURED PROGRAM) Knights of Columbus councils work closely with Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit Christian organization, to build homes for families in need at substantially reduced costs. Each year, councils throughout the order donate a considerable number of volunteer hours and dollars to this worthy cause. In order to satisfy program requirements, councils are asked to donate a minimum of $1,000 or 200 service hours to Habitat for Humanity projects in their community. A featured program, Habitat for Humanity counts for two credits toward the Columbian award. Councils must complete associated reporting forms to qualify for a featured program. PUBLICITY PROGRAM

Before you joined the Knights of Columbus, did you know much about the Knights? As Knights, we take pride in what we do. We support our parishes and communities, we volunteer countless hours, and we donate monetary gifts to those in need. But there are people in our parishes and communities that do not know what we do or what we stand for. We need to get the word out! To do this, councils must publicize information about upcoming events to increase participation. It is also good to publish what you have done with articles, pictures and scrapbooks.

Each council is encouraged to appoint a Public Relation Chairman. This member is responsible for publicizing activities and news. Here is a list of ways to publicize your event:

Diocesan newspaper, local newspaper, e-mail blasts, radio stations, Facebook, Twitter, parish bulletin, Flock Notes, Kansas Knights of Columbus website, council newsletter, and the Columbian Magazine Knights in Action (submit articles online at https://www.kofc.org/en/contact/knights-in-action-news.html or via e-mail to [email protected]).

Please copy your fraternal chairman ([email protected]) on all articles published. Remember to keep your articles concise and to the point, making sure the article answers these six questions: Who, What, When, Where, Why and How. It is also a good idea to send your article to the State Historian ([email protected]). Knights of Columbus members do great work. Be proud of what your council accomplishes and let others in your community know about it!

Fraternally,

Eric Sevart Fraternal/Publicity Chairman [email protected] (214) 864-1354

FRATERNAL ACTIVITIES PROGRAMS The goal of fraternal activities is to grow “Faith in Action”. To accomplish this goal, councils must engage all members and promote Faith, Family, Community, and Life activities. Our best tool is brothers working together, creating a fraternal atmosphere of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. Work with your council and promote activities that work best for your parish and community.

Fraternal Recognition: Communication and recognition are important to everyone. Utilize parish bulletins, websites, Facebook group pages, Twitter, certificates, etc. to promote your activities. Host family nights, award banquets, lady’s appreciation night, fraternal night or social, etc. to build pride and awareness among members and their families. Communicate your appreciation of your brother Knights.

Knight of the Month: Every Council must select a Knight of the Month! Every council has a brother Knight who goes out of his way to promote Faith, Family, Community, and Life activities. Choose this member as your Knight of the Month! Present this member with a Certificate (Form #1476) at a council function, thanking him for his hard work and dedication to the council. On the 16th of each month, a “State Knight of the Month” will be selected from the candidates submitted to the Fraternal Chairman. Only one name per council per month will be accepted. The application form can be found on the Kansas Knights of Columbus website, www.kansas-kofc.org/index.php/site/forms. Alternatively, you can submit online at http://plus.allforms.mailjol.net/u/4e1b9a77.php. Each State Knight of the Month will be presented a Crucifix and Certificate by their District Deputy. The Fraternal Chairman will mail the crucifix and certificate to the district deputy. Gentlemen, this is an easy program to conduct and encourages member participation (especially new members) in council and parish activities.

Knight of the Year: Every Council must select a Knight of the Year! Each council should select one of the twelve Knight of the Month winners as their Knight of the Year. Grand Knights submit your Knight of the Year entry form to your District Deputy no later than March 10, 2022. The District Deputy will judge their council winners and will submit their District Knight of the Year to the Diocesan Judge no later than March 20, 2022. The Diocesan Judges will judge the district winners and submit the Diocesan Winner to the State Deputy and Fraternal Chairman by April 1, 2022. Diocesan Winners and the State Knight of the Year will be recognized at the State Convention.

State Email Program: Notices are sent out in the event of illness or death of a past or present State Officer, Director, Chairman, General Agent, Field Agent, District Deputy, Grand Knight, or a member of their immediate family. State personnel, including District Deputies, must notify the State Webmaster if their email address changes. Grand Knights and other members are encouraged to sign up to receive these notices by using the link on the home page of the state website, http://www.kansas-kofc.org/.

Memorial Mass: Throughout the month of November, each council should hold a Memorial Mass honoring their deceased Brother Knights. Consult with your parish priest before planning this event. If approved, invite the widows and/or families of the deceased Knights to the mass. Be sure to present the widows and/or families with a Resolution of Condolence signed by a committee of Knights (form #1450). The Memorial Mass is an excellent activity to recognize the memory of our deceased Brother Knights. Planning for a Memorial Mass should start early in the fraternal year to have a successful event. A suggested goal for each council is, “A penny per member, per day.” If your council makes a donation directly to the Supreme Council, a copy of the front and back of the cancelled check must be mailed to me for the council to receive credit for the donation with the state council. FAITH

Our goal is to strengthen our men and their families in the faith. When we entered the Order, we were reminded to constantly form ourselves in the Catholic faith. This formation goes beyond mere facts or religious practice to an authentic connection with a loving God and his son Jesus Christ. Programs in this category are designed to draw us closer to God and the Church in a tangible and meaningful way — whether through helping the future shepherds of the Church, quiet contemplation in a spiritual reflection program, or honoring Mary, Mother of God. These programs should strive to arm us for the spiritual battle that our men and families face daily.

Faith Director: Todd Lutters Religious Education Fund Chairman: Lino Munoz

Religious Education Fund: Rev. Bernie Gorges Associate State Chaplain: Rev. Meinrad Miller, OSB

AWARDS: Every council in the State should enter a scrapbook for Faith Activities. When your council conducts an activity, you should create a scrapbook containing pictures, news clippings, and other information about your activity. Appoint one person at the event to take pictures, write up the information on the event and submit it directly to the State Faith Director, no later than April 1, 2022. The 1st place winner in the state goes on to the Supreme Convention to be judged internationally.

RSVP – Adopt-A-Seminarian (FEATURED PROGRAM)

This is the support of seminarians and postulants who are currently in their formation to become priests or nuns. To obtain your refund, a council will need to fill out Form 2863 which is available on the Supreme website, www.kofc.org.

Financial support is not the only aspect of the RSVP program. Councils are also called to provide their “adopted” seminarian or religious with moral support and prayers for their success. Participation in this featured program will count for two of the four credits in the Faith category. We no longer provide councils with a pledge card. The form is available on the state website and can be printed and mailed or submitted electronically, which is the preferred way. The form needs to be filled out and submitted to the Faith Director no later than Nov. 1, 2021. Every council should fill out the form. Councils must complete associated reporting forms to qualify for a featured program.

Spiritual Reflection Program Councils will create annual opportunities for prayer and reflection together as a fraternity. Other Programs

Pilgrim Prayer Icon: this program is designed to inspire communal acts of prayer and devotion, every year a special icon of a saint whose patronage is inspiring to Knights and their communities. As the Pilgrim Icon makes its journey through each district in the state, councils will host the St. Joseph Icon for a prayer service at their parish. District Deputies will receive a schedule from the Faith Director as soon as it is available and it will be on the state website: www.kansas-kofc.org.

Into the Breach: In his apostolic exhortation, Into the Breach, Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted outlines the challenges faced by men of faith in the world today. Into the Breach is a call to battle for Catholic men which urges them to wholeheartedly embrace masculine virtues in a world at crisis. Councils will institute men’s study groups to read the apostolic exhortation Into the Breach and use copies of the Into the Breach Booklet and study guide as a resource. Councils are also encouraged to watch and discuss the video series released by Supreme.

Building the Domestic Church Kiosk: This program helps strengthen the domestic church (our families) by providing exceptional religious education materials to all Catholics. Building the Domestic Church Kiosks contain engaging, faith-based literature and are available for councils to distribute to members, parishioners, and the general public. The kiosks may be purchased from Supreme at a cost of $150 (plus shipping) and councils should plan on book series refills at regular intervals.

Holy Hour: The chivalric character of the Knights of Columbus and the Church’s long tradition of spiritual combat resonate with men today. This newly formed program is designed to encourage Eucharistic adoration in the form of a regularly scheduled Holy Hour is a simple, direct, and meaningful way to address these needs. It is familiar to many, easy to organize, and something everyone can participate in together regardless of age, vocation, stage of life or membership status. Councils can organize their Holy Hours in a variety of ways and incorporate aspects such as: perpetual adoration, the sacrament of reconciliation, prayer for particular intentions and more. A Knights of Columbus Holy Hour, prepared for the men of the parish, could include a reflection, communal rosary, prayers for intercession by Father McGivney or St. Joseph, and various other aspects as decided by the council.

Sacramental Gifts: This is a new program created by Supreme where Councils will offer gifts to those receiving the sacraments, I.E. Baptism, Confirmation or Matrimony. The sacraments stand as the most significant events in the life of the domestic church. The Knights of Columbus will be there to support and embrace our parish families at these essential moments of encounter with Christ. As children and adult members become more integrated into the life of the church and their parish, they should know that members of the Knights of Columbus will always be present in a tangible and meaningful way, regardless of who else is there for them. Supreme will be offering Sacramental gifts kits available for purchase or councils can, in consultation with their pastor, choose a gift.

Rosary Program: The Rosary Program encourages councils to schedule regular rosary prayer services on any day of the week, at any time of the year, with the guidance of their pastor. Councils should personally invite each family of the parish and can optionally offer attending families a copy of the Knights of Columbus Catholic Information Service’s A Scriptural Rosary for the Family. For more Information about all the Supreme programs, go to www.kofc.org/faithinaction. In addition to the Supreme programs, other programs include the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Each year, on the Fourth Sunday of Easter, Knights throughout the world participate in the annual event. This day is an opportunity for all Knights to raise awareness of the need for men and women to say yes to their vocations, especially if one is called to the priesthood or religious life.

LIFE

The urgency of the threat to a culture of life cannot be overstates. Respect for the dignity of life demands a commitment to human rights across a broad spectrum.

“Catholics must be committed to the defense of the life in all stages and in every condition.” -St. John Paul II, 1995

Putting the words of St. John Paul II into action, the Knights of Columbus defends the dignity of each human being at every stage of life. Knights work together to build a culture of life and a civilization of love. Your council should stand ready to assist any pregnant woman in need, care for the elderly, aid the handicapped, empower those with special needs to realize their full potential, and bring attention to the injustices of abortion, embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia and assisted suicide.

Life Couple: Joe & Emily Roth Commitment to Humanities Chairman: Patrick Burnett

Reports & Awards

All Culture of Life Reports, Culture of Life Scrapbooks and filing for The Evangelium Vitae Awards are due MARCH 10, 2022. Please mail all materials to the Life Couple. Life within their communities. State Goals:

● Raise $500,000 in donations for Culture of Life organizations and/or the Ultrasound Initiative.● Continue to support the Special Olympics in Kansas as well as providers serving persons with intellectual

● Increase council participation in the Christian Refugee Relief effort.● Inspire 100% of councils to begin or continue fostering the Culture of Life in their programs.

Supreme Activities Novena for Life - The protection of life is a sustained prayer intention of the Church and our Knights of Columbus councils. A council can promote 9 days of prayer for a culture of life both in the parish and in our homes. These novenas could proceed or end with major feast days or pro-life events.

Ultrasound Program (FEATURED PROGRAM) - Councils identify a pro-life pregnancy care center for placement of an ultrasound. When a state or local council raises 50% of the cost of an ultrasound machine, the Supreme Council will provide the other 50% of the cost to complete funding for purchase of an ultrasound. Councils must complete associated reporting forms to qualify for a featured program. Councils must complete associated reporting forms to qualify for a featured program.

Christian Refugee Relief - Knights of Columbus are called to raise awareness of the plight of Middle East Christians through various parish-based programs and fundraisers. Funds raised are sent to our Christian Refugee Relief Fund. Of particular focus is the resettling families in the town of Karamles, Iraq. We also encourage councils to utilize the Solidarity Crosses as a fundraiser and prayer campaign in their parishes.

Silver Rose - Eight silver roses now take various routes across the North American continent from Canada to Mexico. Every pilgrimage stop of the rose is an occasion for prayer and spiritual renewal centered on the rosary. The events share with participants the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Kansas will host the Silver Rose from September 13th through October 24th. The Silver Rose will travel throughout the state during this time. Host councils are encouraged to schedule a prayer service and invite the public to attend. District Deputies will be notified when the schedule has been finalized.

Mass for People with Special Needs - Knights of Columbus councils are encouraged to work with their pastor, as well as designated members of his staff, to organize an Annual Mass for people with developmental disabilities. It is an invaluable opportunity to welcome families who might not normally feel comfortable coming to a regularly scheduled Mass. Furthermore, it will assist the parish in welcoming these families to any mass.

Pregnancy Center Support - Many pregnancy centers try to help provide women and families with the often-expensive necessities to care for a newborn child. After a Mass for Life or at any time of the year councils could promote a Pro-Life Baby Shower for diapers, wipes, clothes, furniture and other necessities, in addition to hosting a reception to raise money for their local pregnancy centers. Additionally, councils can “adopt” care centers to support as needs arise.

ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTOR REPORT

The Administrative Department continues to support the State Officers, Directors, Chairmen and District Deputies in their day to day operations. We are here to provide assistance and guidance in order that the daily operations continue to run smoothly.

The Legislative Liaison position was created to keep us more in tune on what is going on at the Legislative for our great state of Kansas. We have an ally in Kansas that has the same principals and beliefs that the Knights do, and we can better work together to advance those causes near and dear to our hearts. We will be working hard with the “Value Them Both” initiative.

We help plan, coordinate, and setup for meetings. We provide expertise in order to setup the needed audio visual equipment so that meetings run more efficiently.

We collect council/assembly history, officer information and program activity. So that we can provide detail information back to the State Officers on council activities. We prepare and maintain the official directory of State Personnel including Council and Assembly information. In order that the State Officers have at their disposal a reference guide of contact information to conduct business and know whom to contact at every council and assembly across the state of Kansas.

We accumulate data on program and membership activity to provide reports so that State Leadership, Councils and Assemblies can see what is going on at the state level. It helps us so that we know where we are at and if there are any areas that we should be focusing more attention to in order to help each other out to be successful and meet the goals we have set for ourselves.

ONLINE PUBLICITY PROGRAM

In today’s technological environment, it has become more important to have an online presence with all those with whom you want to connect with. Social Media is one of the many ways in which we as Knights of Columbus can reach out not only to our brother Knights, but also to those who are not yet Knights. Social Media can be used as a recruitment tool, as well to promote the image of the Knights of Columbus.

Currently, the Kansas State Council has a Facebook page, a Twitter page, and a YouTube Channel.

https://www.facebook.com/KansasKofC

https://twitter.com/KansasKofC

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmYDr3ybXX5yciSqgkB-20w

To add a post to the Facebook Page, you can select the link in the Membership Guide, and then select Create Post. From there, you can add photos, or updates on what your Council is doing. State team will also post fraternal notices and other information pertinent to the councils.

As for twitter when you post you add the twitter handle @KansasKofC. This will post the pictures or updates on your twitter page and on the Kansas K of C page.

This past year, State team added a YouTube channel. The YouTube channel will be used for approved Knights of Columbus videos and livestreamed events. These events include State Convention, Mid-Year Meeting, and other events as requested by the state team.

HISTORICAL PROGRAM

The objective and purpose of this program is to compile and document a biography of the Knights of Columbus, the Subordinate Councils and Fourth Degree Assemblies while continuing to establish reference materials relating to the Order in Kansas.

In July, each District Deputy will receive a memorandum stating which fraternal year reports are on file and which reports are needed of each council and assembly in his district. The District Deputies should encourage each council and assembly to keep their history current and up-to-date. My research of the archives is also offered to those seeking information concerning history of Kansas Knights of Columbus.

In February, each Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator will receive an email (if email address is on file) stating the council or assembly fraternal year history submitted since July. The council and assembly historians are asked to file the Annual History Update Report Form with the State Historian/Archivist and file the report(s) by using email. If not using email, please type the report(s).

THE COUNCIL AND ASSEMBLY HISTORY REPORT(S) FORM CAN NOW BE FILLED OUT AND SUBMITTED ONLINE. The report form can be found at the Kansas State Council website: www.kansas-kofc.org.

The annual history update report for 2020-2021 fraternal year will be due August 30, 2021. Any activities not listed or other printed materials documenting the history of the council or assembly may be reported at the end of the fraternal year as a supplement to the report. Any Supreme Council awards, such as Star Council, Columbian Award, etc. will be added by your council or assembly historian once the Supreme Council announces council or assembly winners.

The Kansas State Council has digitized its records on file with the State Historian. The State Council has spent a significant amount of time and effort to guarantee a permanent copy of all histories of the Knights of Columbus in Kansas. Your council or assemblies’ histories can only be preserved if you submit your history in a clear and readable format.

NO HISTORY REPORT – NO HISTORY.

I look forward to working with the councils and assemblies documenting their history.

FATHER MCGIVNEY GUILD REPORT

The Father Michael J. McGivney Guild serves as a source for information about the life, works and spirituality of Father McGivney. The Guild distributes informational materials about him, receives reports of favors granted through his intercession and oversees the distribution of relics. The Father McGivney Guild website is https://www.fathermcgivney.org/

The Knights of Columbus founded the Guild in 1997 concurrently with the archdiocesan phase of the Father McGivney’s cause for canonization. Membership in the Guild, which is free, and is open to all individuals and households, but not groups. Members of the Knights of Columbus are not automatically Guild members and must elect to join the Guild.

The chronologies of the events since the turn of the century are as follows:

2000 - Archbishop Cronin closed the diocesan investigation. Acts describing the investigation went to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints which opened the Vatican investigation. The diocesan investigation began reviewing a reported miracle attributed to Father McGivney’s intercession.

2008 - On March 15, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI approved the Decree of Heroic Virtue of Father McGivney. The Pope’s declaration significantly advances the process toward sainthood. The declaration confers upon Father McGivney the title of, “VENERABLE SERVANT OF GOD.” One miracle with the approval of the Pope is required for the beautification, at which time Father McGivney would be declared “BLESSED.” Another miracle with the approval of the Pope is required for canonization, at which time Father McGivney would be declared a “Saint.”

2013 - It was reported that a possible miracle attributed to the intercession of Venerable Servant of God, Father Michael J. McGivney is under investigation.

2017 - The results of the investigation are sent to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints at the Vatican.

May 27, 2020 - The Vatican announced that Pope Francis approved the miracle. The Pope’s actions mean that Father McGivney can be declared “BLESSED,” the step just prior to sainthood.

Oct 31, 2020 - Attendees at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Hartford, Conn., attended Father Michael J. McGivney, founder of the Knights of Columbus, official beatification Mass declaring him “Blessed.”

All members, spouses, and families are invited to join the Father McGivney Guild in support and to further the cause of the sainthood for our founder Blessed Michael McGivney. Membership forms can be obtained from the Father McGivney website - https://www.fathermcgivney.org/. Each member must individually apply for membership to the Guild.

During one’s lifetime, is there a more fulfilling opportunity than to be a part of the sainthood process, especially of our founder, Blessed Michael McGivney? Take the time to send a membership form and become a part of the sainthood process.

Respectfully submitted,

The K of C Charities Aid Foundation is the non-profit corporation of the Kansas State Council of the Knights of Columbus. The foundation oversees the charitable fund raising, administration of the funds collected, and distribution of these funds for the Kansas State Council of the Knights of Columbus.

The Foundation encourages the Kansas State Council to conduct statewide solicitations for the Commitment to Humanity Program, Pennies from Heaven Program, and the Religious Education Fund. The Foundation also encourages and accepts tax-deductible donations from wills and gifts for the charitable work of the Knights of Columbus.

In addition, The Foundation also distributes monies earned from the Christopher Fund and Centennial Memorial Fund to support Catholic Education across the state.

The Emergency Disaster Aid Program (EDAP), funded by donations to the Pennies from Heaven Program, helps victims of natural disasters, regardless of race, creed, or color. Requests of up to $500 will be granted to local councils after meeting specific requirements. Although the matching funds program is no longer required to receive the maximum grant possible, additional or matching funds are certainly still encouraged of the councils making the grant request. The complete list of guidelines to request funds can be found on the website at www.kofc-kansas.org and on the next page.

The Commitment to Humanity Program helps people with intellectual disabilities. Funds from this program are distributed to organizations that help these special people. The Kansas State Council of the Knights of Columbus is proud to be the prime sponsor of this worthy event.

Monies raised for the Religious Education Fund benefits parishes, schools and Catholic Religious Education Programs throughout the state. These funds are also used to help support the Catholic Campus Centers in Kansas and underwrite special Religious Education projects submitted by the Bishops of Kansas, Catholic Lay Organizations and individuals.

PROCEDURES OF OBTAINING AID FROM THE E.D.A.P. PROGRAM

The Emergency Disaster Aid Program (E.D.A.P.) is designed to provide immediate help to people who have large material losses to their residence because of a NATURAL DISASTER (fire, flood, tornado, etc.). With PRIOR APPROVAL, up to $500.00 per family is available from this fund regardless of race, creed, or color. It IS NOT designed to replace insurance, government assistance and the like, nor take care of health needs. The procedures are as follows:

PATRIOTIC (FOURTH) DEGREE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS DISTRICT OF KANSAS

Who are the Fourth Degree Knights? When the Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882, three principles united its members: charity, unity and fraternity. At that time people feared that members of the Catholic faith owed their entire allegiance to the Church and could not be trusted as citizens of their country. Patriotism was added to the Order’s principles in 1900, based on the idea that Knights are loyal to both God and country.

Members who wish to live out patriotism together can join “the Fourth Degree.” Members of this degree have the special honor of holding the title “Sir Knight,” participating in color and honor guards and organizing programs that promote Catholic citizenship. They also become part of a Fourth Degree Assembly in their area.

I invite all Third-Degree Knights to join the Patriotic Degree. The need for Patriotic Catholic American Citizens has never been greater. The potential for growth of the Patriotic Degree is tremendous when one considers that only 16% of eligible Third-Degree members in Kansas are Sir Knights of the Patriotic Degree.

Qualifications: Any Third-Degree member in good standing is eligible to join the Patriotic Degree. There is no waiting period.

Exemplifications: Exemplification dates are being explored. Contact me if your assembly would like to host an Exemplification. Please review the state website for additional information as dates are confirmed. Virtual Exemplifications are an option currently.

New Assemblies: The potential for new assemblies in Kansas is great. We have 57 assemblies serving 262 active councils. Many eligible Third-Degree members decline to join due to the distance to assembly meetings and events. For a member to be active, they must become and stay involved. In some areas, a district or group of smaller councils could join to form an assembly. Likewise, members in a large council could easily support their own assembly. Brother or Sir Knights interested in establishing a new assembly are invited to contact the District Master for further information. I will gladly meet with any council or group of councils to assist you.

I invite all Third-Degree Knights to join the Patriotic (Fourth) Degree in this 114th year of the Patriotic Degree in Kansas.

All questions regarding the Fourth Degree should be directed to the District Master.
