COMPANY • Since 1979 • Focus on continuous improvement • Safety, reliability, convenience • Market leader in terms of numbers of marine

loading arms sold, 120 - 180 MLA’s per year • Successfactors: Highest quality against competitive price Responsiveness and flexibility Continuous focus on safety for environment and operators with convenient operation • Convenient , one-man operation

LNG BUNKERING ISSUES • Emission regulations call for LNG-powered ships

• Supply / logistics from source to bunker spot

• Prices LNG versus conventional fuels

• Customer acceptance; adjustments of engines etc

• Safety issues:

• Is LNG dangerous • Is the bunkering equipment safe • What about emergency disconnection

LNG BUNKERING APPROACH (I/II) • Fully rigid bunker arms are most reliable and safe

but have limited and inflexible reach => the same principle as bulk LNG transfer with 4 off 16” MLA’s

• Bunker hoses are most flexible but are not durable and have suboptimal possibilities for emergency release

• Conventional method using rigid boom and flexible hose in one structure combines advantages of both

• Using bunker vessel significanly increases the efficiency as bunkering is performed during cargo load / unload

LNG BUNKERING APPROACH (II/II) • Conventional method consist of rigid boom with

hose with advantages: • Emergency release provisions are at the boom

side not the ships deck • Hoses are relatively short and can easily be

replaced by another diameter • Emergency release control system based on

marine loading arm practise • Maximum practical safety, durance and

flexibility

SUMMARY • Combined rigid & hose assembly offers the best of two solutions

• Addional components are needed for secure emergency release

• Emergency Break Away system • MLA-based control system • Fall arrestors • Special execution of swivel joints and hoses

• The only method with long-term field experience in Rotterdam

and Antwerp Ports
