Week 3 and its AUGUST! We are dancing, as a whole school, first thing this morning, learning choreographed moves to specific songs thanks to our Year 6 leaders, in preparation for our end of term disco. It’s always so great to see our older students teaching our younger ones. Students teaching students – how wonderful! The Year 6 students are also busily working on choreographing their disco dance that they will be performing at the end of the school disco night.
Wakakirri – A personal message from Sue Dawson (Arts Coordination Officer, Dept. of Education)
How proud you must be of your students! Kangaroo Valley PS sure opened the show with a bang! Kangaroo Valley might be a small school but you gave a big performance. It is particularly impressive to note that this performance involved all of the students from your school. To see the students up on stage having so much fun and representing public education in such a positive way is a credit to the commitment and dedication of not only the students, but the teachers and your local school community. It is evident that Kangaroo Valley Public School has a great community spirit with teachers, students and parents working together to create all your wonderful costumes and props. From my own experience I know the tremendous effort and extra-curricular time that is required to organise a performance such as this. So thank you and congratulations to all the staff for your enthusiasm for the arts and to providing arts programs for your students. Involvement in the arts can be life changing for many of our students. It is an avenue for them to express themselves, to grow in confidence and a place for them to shine. – Sue Dawson.
Save the Date – Wednesday 21st August Week 5
On Wednesday 21st August we are combining our Education Week and Book Week school celebrations. From 9.30 we will have our Book Week Book Character parade for all students and from 10.00am the Book Fair will be open in the school library. There will be then classroom visits, followed by a school song (and if the weather permits, a second performance of our Wakakirri dance; costumes only) and then a BBQ/picnic at around 12pm. Please join us, all welcome!
3D Printing – Design Thinking
We are excited to fire up our 3D printers and begin our journey into the design thinking processes for all our students. Design thinking allows for the sharing of ideas (ideation), planning to solve a specific problem, prototyping and selecting technology/ tools and then evaluating to aid in completion of the process. One of the best aspects of this is that we learn alongside each other with our students often teaching us. Students teaching teachers- how great!
Parent Parking
Just a friendly reminder that every now and then, local council parking officers are about during school drop off and pick up times so be mindful of where you are parking and please use the designated crossing area when crossing Moss Vale Rd.

Morning brain teasers.
The 2019 Trek for Timor through Morton National Park, Kangaroo Valley, will be held on Saturday 14th September. Registrations are now open and we
enthusiastically encourage young people to take part. Participants walk – or run! - in teams of between 2 and 6, and previous events have proven to be a
fantastic event for the whole family.
Participants have a choice of how far they’d like to walk - either 14kms or 36kms or 50kms. As well as completing the physical challenge, many young people benefit by learning about the disadvantage experienced by people of
similar ages in Timor Leste.
What are we raising money for?
The Kangaroo Valley Remexio Partnership (KVRP) has been working in Timor Leste for nearly 20 years. We have completed many projects over
the years, including the construction of our first ‘student house’ in Dili. Our current focus continues to be on creating educational opportunities for young
people. Without external funding from groups like ours, many Timorese young people, especially in rural communities, would be unable to continue their education. Our previous Trek in May 2018 raised enough funds to buy a second student house in Dili. This year we hope to raise enough money to renovate the house to a standard where it is suitable for between eight to 10
students. We also assist students with fees and living expenses.
If students and their families are interested in learning more about the work we are doing in Timor Leste, we recommend they visit our website: http://
www.kvrp.net.au/
The Trek for Timor is a unique experience in our beautiful region; it’s an opportunity to explore some of the most glorious bushland on Earth while helping disadvantaged communities in Timor Leste. We’ll have local food provided by volunteers and some fun and encouragement along the way.
Registration Information:Early bird registration (before July 31st) - $50

DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR ACTIVE KIDS Thanks to the Active Kids vouches local kids are keeping active while their parents are keeping the cash. I am so pleased to advise that from 01 July 2019 each school-enrolled child will now be able to access two $100 Active Kids vouchers per year. The money will help you pay registration costs for sport and recreation, so that your kid(s) can participate and stay active all year-round. Families across the region keep telling me how much the Active Kids Vouchers help them manage the cost of living. Now with two Active Kids $100 vouchers per school enrolled child, you can keep even more money in your back pocket while your kid(s) stay happy and healthy. Since the Active Kids program was launched in 2018, more than one million vouchers have been redeemed and more than $100 million saved by NSW families. It is a big win for NSW when more kids can participate in sport because of the Government’s drive to take down the barriers to expensive registration costs. Whether it is soccer, scouts, AFL, rugby, netball, golf or volleyball, you’re sure to find an activity your kid(s) will love. Active Kids really is making a difference to children’s participation in sport and active recreation in NSW. From January – June there was an overall increase of 13 per cent in the number of Active Kids’ vouchers created, including a 17 per cent rise in vouchers created for girls following an influx of registrations for dance, gymnastics, tennis and swimming Active Kids providers. These are incredible results and demonstrate why the NSW Government is investing an additional $40 million this year to expand the Active Kids program.” From 01 July, parents of school-enrolled children can access a second $100 Active Kids voucher to use towards registration and membership fees for sport and active recreation each year. For further information visit sport.nsw.gov.au/activekids or call 13 13 02.
