Mobile Medical ClinicAction For Rural Rejuvenation
Isha Foundation Project
• Primary objective: Improve the overall health and quality of life of the rural poor.
• Project launched in 2003. • Mobile trucks active: 20• Number of villages served:

1,879,517• Project aims to benefit 70
million rural people in 54,000 villages
• To be implemented over a period of 15 years.

sustainable use and management of the land.

Action For Rural Rejuvenation (ARR)
Isha Foundation has special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations.
• An ecological initiative to prevent and reverse environmental degradation and enable sustainable living.
• Project aims to create 10%additional green cover in Tamil Nadu where presently green cover is only 17.38 %
• Drawing on large scale people’s participation PGH intends to plant 114 million trees.
• Project seeks to inspire people around the world to keep planet livable for future generations.

Results• 2005: 25,000 seedlings planted
in Tsunami affected villages
• 2006: Guinness World Record –852,587 seedlings planted on a single day in 27 districts, involving 256,289 people
• 2007: Over 4 million saplings were grown in 427 Isha nurseries and 44 partners’ nurseries and planted in Tamil Nadu.
Goals• To plant 114 million saplings.
85% of the trees will be planted in villages and 15% in schools and colleges
• To establish 4 large-scalenurseries, able to produce 1 million saplings of income-generating trees each.

• In 2007, TN allocated a total of approx. $11.6 million for tobacco prevention and control
• Between 2000 and 2006, TN received over 1 billion dollars from the Master Settlement Agreement (annual average of approx. $166.5 million). None of the money received has been specifically allocated for tobacco prevention and control programs
• For TN, the Center for Disease Control recommended an annual investment of $71.7 million in 2007, with a minimum of $51.8million. With only $11.6 million allocated to tobacco prevention and control , TN only met 22% of the recommended minimum amount and received a grade of F from the American Lung Association
