Introduction to my Design: I aspire to create a balance between humans, the urban landscape and the natural landscape through my designs and restoration projects. I hope to ensure that people fully appreciate, understand and enjoy the story of spaces that surround them. In this profession we are in the unique position of being able to improve both human and environmental issues. My focus for the future is to design “complete” projects that encompass progress towards a healthier world.

Pismo Lake Ecology Park: The park is transformed into a learning center and urban nature recreation area. “Lifting the Fog” Cafe is placed on a cliff with a beautiful view of the restored lake and open space. The Outdoor Classroom encompasses a series of nine learning stations. One of its main features is an urban organic farm with worm bin composting, greenhouses and a watershed study area.

The footprint study area is comprised of six linked learning and interactive stations.

The crossroads that lead to the organic farm, the learning stations and to the cafe give groups a chance to gather and decide on the activities of their choice.
Downey Healing Garden: A hospital can be a sterile and stressful envronment despite its intention of healing. This healing garden brings eastern medicine and other natural healing techniques together with an overarching feeling of hope and serenity to its visitors. The ascending spiral theme brings your eyes up for hope throughout the various ‘rooms’ in the garden. The site would now be an essential part of patient healing.

This central spiral feature of the garden enhances the meditactive ambiance of the garden and the center of the spiral arbor brings the eyes up to the heavens for hope.
The interactive perennial garden allows visitors to immerse themselves in the healing power of working directly with the earth.
The herb garden uses Chinese medicinal techniques for healing and rejuvination.
Sunset Gardens: This garden is placed at the top of an urban parking garage. Its isolated and elevated nature lends itself to a colorful and symbolic design. The overall design is an interpretation of the Seven Sister volcanoes of the San Luis Obispo area. Panoramic views of the volcanoes and sunset bring life to this previously ingored space.

Sunset Gardens Master Plan - San Luis Obispo, California
The panoramic view of the parking structure is transformed into a garden reflecting the surrounding seven sister hills and frames the sunset over Bishop’s Peak.
Alcatraz Island: After extensive research and study about ‘Human Rights’, I transformed Alcatraz Island into a living monument encompassing each of its four main historical periods. The accessible design of walkways and tramways take visitors through a series of reconstructed spaces that bring light to the island’s mysterious history and challenge of ‘Human Rights.’

Alcatraz Island: I provided a planting and grading plan for a portion of the site. The grading plan is on an extremely steep slope so many of the features are raised above ground level to retain ADA compliance. The planting plan is of the same area of the island where the military historically tended their gardens.

This grading plan illustrates a raised boardwalk that forms a walking bridge over a tramway. The military gardens line the cliffside next to the walkway once it comes back to ground level.
This planting plan further explains the military garden with a formal axis of italian Cypress and formal boxwood and flower planters.

Professional Work: As a student of landscape architecture, I was hired to design a Conceptual/Planting Plan for a church in Santa Maria, CA. The project goal was to create a low cost, drought tolerant planting design for the church parking lot in a low income neighborhood. The plan was sumbitted to the city.

Sketchbook: I studied abroad for a quarter during the Spring of 2010 in Europe. These sketches chronicle our travels through France, Spain and the Netherlands. For the most part these were “on the go” sketches of details that I wanted to bring home with me.
