INTO THE WOODS (JAN-FEB)ARSENIC AND OLD LACE (JAN) THE MIRACLE WORKER (FEB) GOOD PEOPLE (MAR)

appy New Year! I hope your holidays were filled with friends and family, good food

and great theatre. The start of a New Year is agreat time for reflection on all the things we aregrateful for in our lives, and maybe a time to makea few resolutions about things we want to do differently in the New Year. Here at the Civic, wehope you have resolved to take the time to enjoythe good company of friends, the pursuit of happyleisure and to support the rich array of local artsand artists in our community.

As a community we are truly rich in culturalpursuits, and as a community leader for 85 years,we are proud of the contribution we continue tomake to the quality of life here in Kalamazoo. Didyou know that there are therapeutic benefits to livetheatre and those benefits are as old as historyitself? Since the time of the Greeks (and evenbefore), there has been presentational story tellingcomplete with characters and emotions, the resultof which is a cathartic experience for audiencemembers. Audiences go on different journeys withthe characters in a play and experience a widerange of emotion that has actually been proven

to reduce stress by releasing emotions. TheGreeks found this form of catharsis essential to ahealthy society, and 3,000 years later we are stillmaintaining this practice of storytelling in the formof live theatre, contributing to a healthy community.

We have had a wonderful start to our 86thseason, filled with fun musicals, and a great CYTshow, and there is more on the way in 2015. We havesome fabulous opportunities for you in the NewYear to see and do theatre! I hope you are planningon seeing Lend Me a Tenor in the Auditorium. Thiscomedy is sure to keep you laughing all evening. We also have The Who’s Tommy opening in theParish Theatre at the end of the month. This rockopera is filled with fantastic songs, and is sure to getyour blood pumping on a cold Michigan evening.

Our Winter Classes are also right around thecorner, complete with a Master Class with DavidAlpert, a NYC based Director and WMU alumni. The tap class is back for another round, and weare also offering stage combat for adults. Thesegreat offerings, plus a monologue class for seniorsand a plethora of youth classes are just waitingfor you to investigate at www.KazooCivic.com.

From all of us here at the Civic, we wish youmuch love, luck and good health in 2015! We’llsee you at the theatre! – KC

PERFORMANCE DATES:

Non stop laughter.– Variety

Production

Sponsors: It's 1934 and the Cleveland Grand Opera Company is preparing to welcome world-famous

tenor Tito Morelli for a sold-out, one night only performance of Otello. But when the star arrives

desperately late with his ego and his jealous wife in tow, things don't go exactly according to

plan. A double dose of tranquilizers, an over-sexed soprano, and a mistaken suicide note add

up to complete chaos! What transpires is a furiously paced comedy with more than a touch of

the Marx brothers; complete with slamming doors and laugh-out-loud humor.
