National Primary and Secondary parents are invited to join us for a coffee and cookies morning. Come and get to know our school leaders, understand our school policies better, and share your ideas on how to make Lodge School a better learning environment for our children.

INFORMATION LITERACY

Information literacy is a set of abilities requiring individuals to "recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information."

(American Library Association)

Recognising the increasing need for students to equip themselves with the skills to locate, evaluate and use information effectively, Lodge Group of Schools launched an Information Literacy programme for all our students from Primary 1 / Year 2 to Year 13. This is crucial in this age where there is information overload and people are gradually losing the ability to discern real information amidst all these noise.

Therefore, for one hour a week, students spend time developing skills in locating and synthesising information, while also learning the importance of differentiating sources and to give credit to the sources, among other learning objectives. The teachers have developed the activities using a largely project-based learning approach. Therefore, the students are also learning how to work well in a team as they develop skills that are beyond the classroom and textbook boundaries.

The Primary 6 students did a detailed presentation on their respective families.

The A-Level students participated in a Growth Mindset workshop that challenged their will power and existing mindsets.

CELEBRATING CHINESE NEW YEAR AS A SCHOOL!

This Chinese New Year assembly was special as it was organised by the National Secondary Prefectorial Board, whom also worked hard to decorate the school for the festive season.

Almost everyone from the National Primary and National Secondary School turned up in various shades of red to commemorate the auspicious occasion. It was a joyous time as the teachers and students gathered to enjoy the performances and the lion dance performance amidst the beautiful festive decorations throughout the hall.

A highlight was when the staff of Lodge Secondary School gathered for the symbolic "Yee Sang" tradition, signifying good luck and prosperity for the year ahead. It was indeed a sight to behold as staff of diverse cultures came together for this goodwill gesture.

It was a good day of togetherness, and we look forward to a great year ahead!

SCOUTS CELEBRATING CHINESE NEW YEAR TOGETHER

On 20 February 2018, 02 Scout organised a CNY celebration dinner at Meisan Restaurant, Grand Margherita Hotel.

These 70 Form 1 to Form 5 students were honoured to be in the presence of special guests such as Mr. Thomas Huo, Director of Lodge Group of Schools, Mr Hudson Chua, Chairman of Lodge School Association, Mr. Lawrence Yong, State Commissioner in charge for State's Program, Mdm Vong Lik Na, Assistant State Commissioner in charge for Sarawak Scout Academy, and Mr Ng Ah Luk, former Kuching District Chief Commissioner.

The event started off with the lion dance performed by our very own scout members, Clement Yong and Jamie Yong. This was followed by a series of entertaining performances and games, including a lucky draw, part of which was sponsored by our Chairman, Mr Hudson Chua.

This was a fantastic night to reignite the strong bond between the scout members, and they look forward to an exciting scouting year ahead!

CHINESE NEW YEAR AT LODGE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

A celebration took place at the Chinese New Year assembly with special guests from the board as well a lion dance, traditional costume parade by primary students and a fan dance from the secondary school. The traditional yusheng finished off the festivities.

21 certified First Aiders at Lodge International School can now be easily recognised by special badges on their uniform.

They have been recently certified by the Red Crescent and represent a broad range of students from across the school. The enhanced visibility of our trained students will ensure a greater access to first aid when required.

FOR OUR KOREAN COMMUNITY ... 

안녕하세요? Lodge International School에서 한국어를 담당하고 있는 Gina Kim입니다.

지난 설날행사에서는 Yr2 김유빈 학생이 중국계 학생들과 함께 각자의 모국어로 새해인사를 했었지요. 수줍 어선지 목소리가 너무 작아서 친구들로부터 격려의 박수를 더 많이 받기도 했답니다. 그리고 댄스동아리에서 활동하는 Yr8 김나현, 김사랑, Yr9 이혜민, Yr10 이혜인 학생이 부채춤을 함께 추었는데요, 다른 학생들과 어 울려

적극적으로 참여하는 모습이 무척 보기 좋았습니다. 다음달 4월13일(금)에는 간식 및 점심시간을 이용하여 한 국의 문화와 전통을 체험할 수 있는 <Korean Day> 행사가 학교에서 열립니다. 한국음식, 전통게임, K-pop, 한 복입고 사진찍기, 불닭라면 도전하기, 경품행사 등 다양하고 재미있는 볼거리와 체험행사가 기다리고 있습니 다. 학생들뿐만 아니라 학부모님들도 누구나 참여 가능한 행사인 만큼 여러분 모두가 참여해서 즐거운 시간이 되었으면 좋겠습니다.

앞으로도 이 지면을 통해 새로운 학교 소식들을 종종 들려드릴게요.

영국계 커리큘럼으로 학업뿐만 아니라 다양한 대내외 활동을 통해 매년 우수한 성취도를 보여 주고 있는 Lodge International School에는 현재 60여명의 한국학생들이 활발하게, 열심히 공부 하고 있습니다.
