EDUCATOR BIOS

ANTOINETTE BEENDERS Antoinette Beenders, the longtime Aveda International Creative Director, is currently Senior Vice President–Professional Global Artistry. She works closely with the world’s top photographers, models and creative talent to develop dynamic beauty concepts and striking images that combine high-fashion sensibility with environmental consciousness. Whether working backstage at New York Fashion Week, developing new styling products or creating a continuing education curriculum for Aveda’s global network, Antoinette holds true to her vision and perfectionism.

IAN MICHAEL BLACK Ian Michael Black has been part of the Aveda tribe since 1999 when he joined the Aveda Academy in London. He is known throughout the global hair color industry for his passion and ability to create innovative placement techniques and formulations. In the classroom, Ian is an inspirational educator who enjoys challenging his students to push the limits of hair color. In his current role as Aveda Artistic Director, Hair Color, Ian collaborates on product development, trend collections and visual campaigns for Aveda.

BEA CARMICHAEL Bea Carmichael has worked for more than 20 years as a hair stylist in the UK, beginning her career in London salons. She has been a lead stylist at Fashion Week shows in Europe and New York and an educator at the Aveda Advanced Academy London.

In her current role as Aveda Global Educator, Hair Styling, Bea enjoys motivating and inspiring others. She believes that by sharing techniques and skills of the craft with each other, Aveda Artists can push the boundaries of hair together.

MELISSA CHELMINIAK Melissa Chelminiak, Director, Mission, Partner and Stakeholder Engagement, has been with Aveda for 13 years. She works to drive awareness of Aveda’s mission and engagement with its social investment commitments.

Melissa collaborates with teams across the organization to develop strategic mission campaigns and initiatives, including the annual Aveda Earth Month and Breast Cancer campaigns. She also develops and maintains Aveda’s relationships with nonprofit partners around the world.

RICARDO DINIS Ricardo Dinis joined Aveda in his native Canada as Creative Director for Collega, Aveda’s Canadian distributor. He then spent three years in Spain as Creative Director at the Aveda Lifestyle Salon & Spa in Madrid.

Ricardo’s professional and geographic journey has brought him to his current role as Aveda Artistic Director, Hair Cutting. He collaborates on trend collections and visual campaigns for Aveda and develops and teaches advanced hair cutting courses around the world.

RENEE GADAR Renee was her family’s hairdresser by age 9 and became known as the community “kitchen beautician” by 14. As a professional, Renee worked at Arrojo Studio in New York, becoming a senior stylist while advancing her skills with intense studies on textured hair.

As Aveda Global Artistic Director, Texture, Renee strives to educate others about the fascinating range of all hair textures. She travels the world as an educator for Aveda and The Elevate Hair Team and provides services for private clients in New York.

JANELL GEASON Janell Geason is known for her awe-inspiring creativity, technical expertise and innate ability to connect with her students. Janell was named NAHA Makeup Artist of the Year in 2008 and 2009.

As Aveda Artistic Director, Makeup, Janell travels globally to teach professional makeup artists, and she performs at Aveda shows and events. Her role includes leading education for Aveda Makeup, collaborating on new products and beauty images, and working as a lead makeup artist at New York Fashion Week.

HELGA HEFNER Helga Hefner, a global trainer since 1986, specializes in skin and body care and oversees the development and training of Aveda’s esthiology programs. Helga is responsible for creating foundational and advanced education curriculums on skin and body care for the Aveda Institutes and the Aveda salon/spa network. In addition to lecturing and conducting technical demonstrations and workshops, she also works with Aveda’s marketing and research and development teams on innovative skin and body care concepts and treatments, as well as new product developments.

DAVID HIRCOCK David Hircock, Executive Director, Corporate Affairs and Global Communications, has been with The Estée Lauder Companies for 23 years. He was an advisor to Aveda founder Horst Rechelbacher and later to Aveda’s Global President Dominique Conseil.

David is a respected expert on issues of human rights, conservation of biodiversity and partnering with indigenous peoples. One of his most successful endeavors has been working with Kailash Satyarthi, the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize winner, and his team to eradicate child labor in India.
