It is winter here in Durban and believe it or not we have had some pretty cold nights. The month of June has been action packed and I’m really excited that I get to share with you all that has happened! We started June with a camp for our students at UKZN. It was the first time that the two campuses had ever come together and they were all so excited. Our theme was the power of God and our heart was to encourage students to seek God and open their hearts and minds to just how amazing and huge He is! The verse for the camp was Ephesians 1:18-19, “ I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened that you may know the hope to which He called you…and His incomparably great power for us who believe.” We had four main talks stemmed from that verse and some seminars through out the weekend . Thirty students attended the camp and I really feel that they all left understanding more clearly that the God who created the heavens and the earth loves deeply. The most memorable part of the camp for me took place on the last day. We had just divided up the students by campus to sit and share with each other all that God had been teaching them. All of the Howard campus students expressed their desire to step out in faith on campus and tell people about Jesus. To top things off Kwanele suggested that she and the others come together and form a committee so that CRU@UKZN can continue when my team and I return to the States. God had laid on their hearts the very thing that we as a team had been praying for since January, that a group of students would be raised up on Howard’s campus that have a heart to reach others for Christ! Words cannot express how faithful God is!!

Durban, South Africa  Winter Issue

June!!!It is winter here in Durban and believe it or not we have had

some pretty cold nights. The month of June has been action packed and

I’m really excited that I get to share with you all that has happened!

We started June with a camp for our students at UKZN. It was

the first time that the two campuses had ever come together and they

were all so excited. Our theme was the power of God and our heart was

to encourage students to seek God and open their hearts and minds to

just how amazing and huge He is! The verse for the camp was

Ephesians 1:18-19, “ I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be

enlightened that you may know the hope to which He called you…and

His incomparably great power for us who believe.” We had four maintalks stemmed from that verse and some seminars through out the

weekend . Thirty students attended the camp and I really feel that they

all left understanding more clearly that the God who created the

heavens and the earth loves deeply.

The most memorable part of the camp for me took place on the

last day. We had just divided up the students by campus to sit and share

with each other all that God had been teaching them. All of the

Howard campus students expressed their desire to step out in faith on

campus and tell people about Jesus. To top things off Kwanele

suggested that she and the others come together and form a committee

so that CRU@UKZN can continue when my team and I return to the

States. God had laid on their hearts the very thing that we as a team had

been praying for since January, that a group of students would be raised

up on Howard’s campus that have a heart to reach others for Christ!

Words cannot express how faithful God is!!

Ukukhanya Kids Camp

Ukukhanya means “a light in the darkness” in zulu

Ukukhanya Life Care Center is just that. The center is in a town

called Ntuzuma where my team and I have been volunteering du

Penny Dugan and Prince put together a camp for over 100 chilfrom Ntuzuma. From the pictures

here in the letter you can see how

beautiful and precious all the kids

are! Most of them come from

homes where one or both of their

  parents have been infected with

and or passed away from HIV/

AIDS. Many of them live with

their grandmothers, while

some live at the hospice or in

a home where they have

practically become the head of the household.

A couple of weeks before the camp started the children

were tested for HIV and unfortunately there were a handful or so

tested positive. The younger ones sometimes get from their par

where the others have either been sexually abused or are alr

sexually active. Children from the age of 4 all the way to 16 atte

the camp. Our prayer for these kids is that they would see that love

hope are found in Jesus. He alone can restore their lives.

The three days of the camp were action packed consisting

morning service, art, sports, HIV/AIDS education and a free time.

think for these kids it was a

camp that they will remember

for the rest of their lives. For

three days they had the chanceto just be kids. One of my

favorite moments of the camp

was the day where the

children got to here about

Jesus and his great love for

them. Those who wanted

were invited to come up to the

front and pray with some one. It was such blessing to pray for t

kids. Some of them wanted prayer for Jesus to come into their h

and others just wanted someone to pray for them.
