Summer Is Almost HereThe weather seems to have turned and all signs are pointing toSummer. The pool has opened, tennis is active, people are playinggolf, members are eating on the patios, and soon the kids summerprograms will begin. Wynstone is in full gear!

As The Club gets busier, I want to take the time to offer some quick reminders aboutThe Clubs Rules and Regulations. These are in place so every member can equally enjoyThe Club. It provides consistency, which is what makes Wynstone such a wonderful Club.

The Club does have a dress code. In its simplest form, Men are to wear collared shirts anddenim is allowed only while dining and must be free of any tears or holes. Women may wearcollared or collarless shirts, as well as sleeved or sleeveless shirts. Men’s shirts are to be tuckedin at all times when using the golf course, practice range and putting greens. For the Clubhouse, any shirt designed to be tucked in must be worn this way. Hats are only allowed to be wornforward and only on the 1st floor of the Clubhouse. On the following page, there are illustrationsof what is allowed and what is not. Please help us all in ensuring your family and any guests youmay have are aware of our dress code. We want to avoid any awkward situations where we haveto ask someone to change attire.

As we see more dining occurring in our outdoor spaces, I also want to remind you that we onlyallow smoking on our Golf Patio deck. This is the patio directly outside the Golf Shop.

Another question that arises frequently is the subject of tipping at The Club. Wynstone is primarily a non-tipping Club. The Employee Holiday Fund is an opportunity to show gratitude to the staff for the year. Each membership is automatically enrolled with a designated amount based on your categoryof membership, but that number can be changed to be increased, decreased or eliminated at thediscretion of the member. Tipping is only appropriate for valet parking, food delivery, and lockerroom attendants when performing shoe services at The Club. All other positions of The Club havebeen compensated by The Club with the understanding tipping is not integral to their compensation.

the University of Dayton in Dayton, OH. I am studying Sports Management in school hopingto get into the sports industry after graduation. Throughout high school, I have worked at The Club at Wynstone where I fell in love with the game of golf. You will continue to see me around The Club this Summer, mostly onweekends, and I look forward to seeing you all! I never played golf competitively, but I have worked hard the last year or two to get to a single-digit handicap. I love watching the PGA Tour every week and my favorite players are Rickie Fowler, Kevin Na, and Justin Thomas.I am excited to announce I’ve earned aninternship with the Illinois PGA this Summer as an Event Operations Intern. I will be assisting with the setup and administration of all events for the 2021 Season. I’m looking forward totaking the next step in my career with thisinternship. I wish to use this experience towork for a Professional Tour event someday.

The void left by removing the dead willow trees on #3 will take some time to replace. For this area we have selected two white oak trees and a river birch to grow in their place.

Planting Roots

Benjamin Castillo has worked at Wynstone since prior to opening in 1989.Benjamin lives in Xochitepec, Mexico in the Winter and spends about 8

months here in the United States per year. As his family has grown, his wife, Gloria, and his two sons, Benjamin Jr. and Erik, have joined our team as well.

Each year we are fortunate to have them return to Wynstone. Their experience, dedication, and attention to detail is appreciated!

Meet the Castillo Family!

We’re trying a product in the pond on Hole #10that should help to reduce the severity of algaeoutbreaks. Ponds that are shallow and allow sunlight to penetrate to all depths are usually problematic.

Pond Products

Several times a year, you’ll see our staff applying sand to our approaches. We get the same benefits from the sand in this area as we do on the greens, and it alsoallows us to drop the height of cut much lower than the fairways because sand helps prevent the mowers from scalping the turf, which can be very unsightly.

Getting Sandy

Each year in May and September, our greens are aerified and sand is incorporated into the surface. This maintenance procedure helps to ensure that greens remain firm and drainproperly. It also dilutes the organic matter that is deposited by the turf. Without aeration, greens would become spongy and hold water at the surface.

Aerification

We have begun edging cart paths with a new piece of equipment. The initial process is slow, but once we get them cleaned up the first time, it should be quick, painless, and provide a very sharp detail!
