Trinity In ActionJune & July 2016

- Pastor Chris Singer

A lot of Christians say that God’s Word is important. Yet it seems that there is no standard of Growing in God’s Word for Americans as we are becoming increasingly more biblically illiterate. Of course there is a major difference though in the lives of believers who do and those who don’t. I often ask the confirmation kids, “What kind of lawyer they would be if they never studied the law?” The answer: A starving one. So it is with God’s Word. To never read and inwardly digest the Word of God brings spiritual starvation.

2 Peter 2:1-3 encourages us to remain focused on this standard of feeding on God’s Word. “Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will GROW into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.

Our standard for GROW is to be in a GROW GROUP. Grow groups are such a blessing as it helps us to learn more about God in the love, safety, and encouragement of other believers.

This standard has proven to work in helping keep people connected to active membership. Consider that 88% of worship attenders who joined a Grow Group remained connected and became more deeply active in church after five years. But of those worship attenders who didn’t join a Grow Group, only 13% remained connected and more deeply active.

This standard is something that each of us can own and practice.

The benefits to such standards are not just eternally reaching, they also provide daily and weekly love and support, strength and encouragement.

Membership here at Trinity Klein means something to us. Its not just an intellectual assent to formulaic principles. It is something that is to be believed and practiced.

In September we will look at our standard for Serve.

We are blessed to be a blessing to others. Trinity Klein Lutheran School has impacted families in this community for generations, and now with plans to expand our facilities becoming realized, we will continue to serve even more families - - for generations to come. There were 77 graduates from our eighth grade this year. To all of them we wish Godspeed! While more than half will continue their education at Concordia Lutheran High School, the others will hopefully represent us well at whatever school they attend.

Touring and enrolling new families will continue through the summer. The school office is open all summer long from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We are available other times as well by appointment. Call ahead if you need to see a particular person as vacations are sprinkled throughout June and July: 281-376-5810.

When school starts up again, it is likely that there will be some alterations to school drop-off and pick-up procedures due to construction getting started. Please read any emails you receive from the school very carefully so that you will not be caught unprepared.

A few reminders:• Report cards and reports on standardized testing will be mailed this year.• There are MANY summer activities available (both on and off our campus). Please check the website www.trinityklein.org and the table next to the main entry of the lower grade hallway (across from Mr. Brennan’s office). • Meet the Teachers will be August 15th and school will start August 17th.

50 + Trip The trip to see the painted churches in the Schulenburg area has been rescheduled to June 16. The county bus will leave the Family Life Center parking lot at 8:00 am. The cost for the guided tour is $10.00 per person. Lunch will be at the Oakridge Smokehouse where they offer a buffet lunch for $10.95 (includes drink and tax). Call the Church Office to sign up for the trip.

From the outside, these buildings look like many American country churches built around the turn of the last century – arched Gothic Revival windows, facades clad in white frame siding or in stone, lone steeples rising up into the Texas sky.

Inside you will encounter not a simple wooden interior but an unexpected profusion of color. Nearly every surface is covered with bright painting: exuberant murals radiate with elaborate foliage as it trails the walls, columns and baseboards. This is what you will see and you when you visit the painted churches.

There will be no trip in July.

Hamburger DayThursday, June 2,10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.Games and Burger Meal for$6 per person. Bring a friend orinvite a neighbor!Following lunch, Louise Hayes, M.Ed., Ph.D. will speak. She is a retired special education teacher who will share what she has learned about the brain. She will talk how the brain develops, how it works, why it sometimes doesn’t work, and what we can do for ourselves to make it work better.

After the Boxes Are UnpackedWhat happens when you move? It’s so important to have an understanding of what you are going through and to know that you are not alone. Any woman who moves goes through this process. She experiences tangible loss. It’s often devastating for a woman to relocate. And if she is single and relocates, the experience is even more trau-matic since she has no backup support.

Some of the most difficult hurdles in moving are leaving behind friends and family, losing familiar surroundings, and feeling a great sense of spiritual loss. Women go through not only stages of loss, but also of disbelief, grief, and anger before they recover.

There is hope and encouragement to get you through the major impact of your move. Our church offers a min-istry to help equip you with tools for a smoother transition. With biblical principles, women who have been in your shoes will help you walk through your transition. You can make it!

A new class starts on Thursday evenings, 7 pm to 9 pm, on August 25 and concludes on November 17. Loca-tion is in the Family Life Center, room 202. Whether you are new to our area or have been here awhile, these 13 weeks can help you embrace your new life.

For more information, contact one of the class leaders;LaDonna Nobbe at [email protected] Riemer at [email protected]

Registration cost is $15 for your workbook. You can register at trinityklein.org or when you come to class.

Thank you, Trinity Klein FamilyIn the year 2000, my husband, Pastor Ino, and I came Trinity to serve with ESL and to minister to the Spanish community. Little did we know at that time it was Trinity that we needed to serve us.

In 2011, my husband became sick with cancer and after many weeks, months and years, God took my husband to be with him on October 10, 2012. I was left with two sons and and many expenses. Trinity continued to help support my family.

During this time, my youngest son, Carlos, has graduated from high school and now attends college. My oldest son, Elias, has graduated from college. I went back to school and graduated from nursing school this May and have found a job working in a doctor’s office. This is a picture of me at my graduation with Carlos and Elias.

Words cannot express how grateful we are to Trinity and how thankful we are to God for helping us walk through this difficult time. May God continue to bless Trinity as they have blessed us.

Trinity Furniture Ministry is collecting donated furniture and giving to needy families through our Benevolence Ministry. Since the Fall we have helped several single moms moving into apartments in our community. We are only collecting the following items: beds, dressers, nightstands, small table and chairs, couches and love seats. Drop offs are preferred but we can arrange pick ups if necessary. Please call 281-376-5773 or email Jennifer Kiel at [email protected] for more information.

When I reflect back on “why” I go to Kenya; it is interesting how the “why” I go has evolved over the years. I had always dreamed of going to Africa to see the land and the animals. When the opportunity came through Trinity to not only go and see Africa, but also to share my faith with the local people, I realized “why” God had put the desire to go Africa on my heart. While on the trip we went on a safari and saw lots of animals. We also saw the Great Rift Valley as we traveled to Narok for the clinic. I was given the opportunity to talk with thousands of local people through the vision clinic about Jesus. I was able to check all my boxes for “why” I wanted to go. The “why” God wanted me to go was to share the love of Christ to all nations, or so I thought. While He definitely used our team to build His Kingdom in Kenya, He also used this trip to strengthen my faith in Him. Bible stories like the Good Samaritan, came alive as I watched Kenyans walk along the road from place to place as they did in olden days. And worshiping in Kenya with the locals who you’ve worked side-by-side with all week is an amazing experience. I had always known “why” I wanted to go, but it was after all the experiences that I learned why God had placed those desires on my heart. He had bigger plans for “why” I needed to go to Kenya. If God has placed a desire on your heart to go to Kenya, then I would encourage you to go on the trip and experience “why” God is calling you into this amazing experience.

33 excited and dedicated volunteers are offering mercy through improved eyesight and grace through Jesus the Christ in Kenya this summer. Heartfelt appreciation to those who provided scholarships and many thanks to all remembering the missionaries in prayer.

News from Large Print Ministry In 2008, Robert Harrigan was declared legally blind. He has only about 10-15% of his vision remaining now. He said it would take him about 2 hours to read four pages as he would have to look at each letter individually to construct the word. On Sunday, April 30, members of a St. John Lutheran Church-Cypress Huddle group gave Robert a large-print New Testament that they put together for him at the Lutheran Braille Workers Work Center at Trinity Lutheran Church, Klein, TX. Robert and his wife, Marilyn, were extremely touched by this gift. Robert is looking forward to taking his Bible to the weekly Men’s Bible Study group that he belongs to and says this Bible has opened a new door for him.

“Christianity isn’t decorative. God is for real life, modeling in Jesus what perfect forgiveness looks like. As long as your relationship doesn’t risk your safety or your sanity, it’s probably better to dig in right where you are. Some waste a life-

time hunting for contentment, running with resentment from this person to that, searching for the human equivalent of a pot of gold; but quick hitches aren’t quick fixes. Rainbows come after storms. So, build up your partner, laugh together,

be vulnerable, and let the Spirit sculpt you into a better self for that someone.” - Rev. John Nunes commenting on marriage – A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life.

Contribution InformationThe line that says “Building Fund” on the boxed envelopes, or on the blue pew envelopes is for the “So They Can…” capital campaign contributions. Many people are writing “So They Can…” on their envelopes, but it is the same thing as the Building Fund. The only exception is new members, as their envelopes are more generic and only have one line for operating, so they need to write a separate line for “So They Can…” Donors don’t need to write a separate check for each fund, as long as their split is noted on the check and/or offering envelope.

Did you know..?The Trinity Men’s Club over the years has provided funds for students who are going to Concordia Seminary and College

into church work. There are many Lutheran churches who have never been blessed to send one member into church work, and we have been blessed to send 67 since 1990! In addition to the Herman Shaefer Scholrship Fund, there are also funds available through Trinity as well. Applications for these funds are available in the church office. The application must be

returned to the church office by July 15.

In the 2016 fall semester, the Men’s Club will help fund five future churck workers: Zach Patterson (Seminary), Nathan Abel (Seminary), Bether Frerking (Concordia Austin), Luis Martinez (Seminary), Hanah Singer (Concordia Austin).
