About the Mayans The people who developed and used the Mayan Number System was an ancient Maya civilization of Central America. The Maya was the first to use a place value system and a symbol for zero. This number system was used 2000 B.C to AD 250. The Mayans shared theses features with other Mesoamerican civilizations because of the high degree of interaction and culture diffusions that characterized the region. This advanced writing, epigraphy, including the calendar.

They Mayans are people from Mexico and Central America. The Mayans “have continuously inhabited the lands comprising modern-day Yucatan, Quintana Roo, Campeche, Tabasco, and Chiapas in Mexico and southward through Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador and Honduras.”
