We Gather
From many places we gather here. This is a high point of our
week. We see our friends. We make
new friends. And we spend time with The Friend -- the loving
Christ who meets us where we are, as we
are. In this Sanctuary we worship, and
through worship the courage within us
is kindled to inspire courageous living beyond this place.
Pride"Stonewall," the site of a series of riots in late June-early June 1969 that resulted from a police raid on a Greenwich
Village gay bar, has become synonymous over the years with
gay resistance to oppression. Becoming the emblematic event
in modern lesbian and gay history, the first anniversary of the Stonewall riots
birthed marches of solidarity and
celebration which came to be known
as "Gay Pride." Today this liberation movement is spread across the globe as millions proclaim
the right to freedom, dignity and full humanity of all
peoples. As those who claim the life and
teachings of Jesus, who came bearing reconciling love for all, we celebrate our
freedom, dignity, and full humanity with
"Pride!"

Welcome Song
All Are Welcome
Let us build a house where all are named,Their songs and visions heard
And loved and treasured, taught and claimedAs words within the Word.
Built of tears and cries and laughter,Prayers of faith and songs of grace,
Let this house proclaim from floor to rafter:All are welcome, all are welcome,
All are welcome in this place. by Marty Haugen

Acts 15: 5- 10, 13-14, 19
Some followers of Jesus who belonged to the sect of the Pharisees stood up and said, “It is necessary for Gentile outsiders to be circumcised. You must make them keep the law of Moses!”
The apostles and the elders met together to consider this matter. After there had been much heated debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “Friends, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that I should be the one through whom the Gentiles would hear the message of the good news and become believers. And God, who knows the human heart, gave them the Holy Spirit, just as God did to us; and in cleansing their hearts by faith God treated the outsiders exactly as God treated us. Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by loading these new believers down with rules that neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear?"
There was dead silence. No one said a word... James broke the silence saying, "Friends, listen. Peter reminded us how God includes outsiders, so here is my decision: we should not unnecessarily burden these outsiders who are turning to God."
One: The Word of God for the people of God.All: Thanks be to God.

The Wizard of OZ
This American Fable has captured our imagination in many forms: The Wiz, Wicked, The Wizard of Oz and other variations.
The original book by Frank Baum was published in 1900
and first made into a movie in 1939. Many know what it is to long for a "somewhere over
the rainbow” where there is a place
for everyone. This timeless story of our
human journey - seeking, wandering, meeting others on
the way, discovering what's real together
- calls us to the spiritual truth that we can find within
us the very thing we believed we lack ...
The WizThe Super Soul
Musical "Wonderful Wizard of Oz" is a
retelling of L. Frank Baum's original
story in the context of African American culture. The musical
opened in 1974 and in 1975 won
seven Tony Awards, including Best
Musical and Best Original Score. The film adaptation was
released in 1978, with a cast which
included Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, and Lena Horne. Speaking to the
cultural relevance of the story of Oz,
one reviewer notes, "What made The Wiz surprisingly
moving ... was that its creators found a connection between
Baum's Kansas fantasy and the
pride of urban black Americans. When Glinda ... musically instructed Dorothy
to 'believe in herself,' she seemed to be
delivering a broader inspirational
message."

CommunionAs we gather, break
bread, and tell stories of hope through prayer,
song and ritual in the practice we call
"communion," we bear witness that "Life is stronger than death.
People can change with God’s help. And God is
worthy of our thanks and praise." All are welcome at the table: you do not need to be a member
of this or any church to gather as God's children
at the table of Life.
A brief blessing is offered with bread and juice,
available to all. Gluten-free bread is offered at the far right; Spanish blessing offered at the
far left.
Please honor this time of sacred community with
singing, quiet meditation or prayer that we might
each receive the spiritual nourishment we seek ...
jugo, al alcance de todos. Pan sin gluten se ofrece en el extremo derecho;
bendición españoles ofrecen en el extremo
izquierdo.
Por favor respetar este tiempo de comunidad sagrada con canto, la
meditación o la oración silenciosa para que
podamos recibir cada uno el alimento espiritual
que buscamos ...

About Us…Resurrection MCC is a Christian church that follows God's call to justice for all people. We build on a rich history of social justice for, and on behalf of, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people. Since its founding in 1968, Metropolitan Community Churches have been at the vanguard of civil and human rights movements as an international advocate for vulnerable people in places where religious orthodoxy, sexism, transphobia and homophobia can result in violence and death. MCC has been on the forefront in the struggle towards marriage equality in the US and other countries worldwide and continues to be a powerful voice in the LGBTQ equality movement. MCC’s ministry reaches over 43,000 members in over 250 churches in 22 countries worldwide.Metropolitan Community Churches are on a bold mission to transform hearts, lives, and history. We are a movement that faithfully proclaims God's inclusive love for all people and proudly bears witness to the holy integration of spirituality and sexuality. Because of our faith we are called to: do justice, show kindness, and live humbly with God (Micah 6:8); explore life's questions with open hearts and minds; raise our voices in sacred defiance against exclusion, whether religious, political or systemic; reach out to those with no hope; equip new generations of remarkable, far-reaching spiritual activists.
The MISSIoN of Resurrection MCC is to demonstrate God's unconditional love to all people through Christian action. The VisioN of Resurrection MCC is to ATTRACT people into a relationship with God through radical iNCLUsioN into God's family, transform them to Christ-like MATURiTY, and MoBILIZE them for their life purpose.
At Resurrection MCC, every member and friend is a minister of the church. We envision a Christian community that values diversity and is as diverse and all-encompassing as creation. Through salvation, service, study, and tithing, each member and friend will live and grow in faith and be spiritually fed. We embrace four core values:
Core ValuesinclusionLove is our greatest moral value and resisting exclusion is a primary focus of our ministry. We want to continue to be the conduits of a faith where everyone is included in the family of God, and where all parts of our being are welcomed at God’s table.CommunityOffering a safe and open community for people to worship, learn and grow in their faith is our deep desire. We are committed to equipping ourselves and each other to do the work that God has called us to do in the world.spiritual TransformationProviding a message of liberation from the oppressive religious environment of our day or to those experiencing God for the first time is what guides our ministry. We believe that when people are invited to experience God through the life and ministry of Christ, lives will be transformed.Social ActionWorking to talk less and do more, we are committed to resisting the structures that oppress people and standing with to those who suffer under the weight of oppressive systems, being guided always by our commitment to Global Human Rights.

To say that it is my honor, privilege, and pleasure to serve Resurrection MCC as a member of your Board of Directors and specifically as Resource Development Director is an extreme understatement. At this crucial juncture in our history, we need to develop every resource we can muster—every second of time, every tidbit of talent, every ounce of treasure—and I am both deeply humbled and richly motivated to steer the many ideas and deeds required to have us be all we must be. This job itself is a ministry. I am a minister of this church, just as you are. God has entrusted me with much in this life, and my job is to use all I have and compel others to use their gifts, too, in the service of our church, our community, our world, and our God.
When I consider my motivation to join this board (and really, everywhere else I serve), I remember Luke 12:48, from The Message: “Great gifts mean great responsibilities; greater gifts, greater responsibilities!” For everything I give away, so much is returned to me. How could I not want to serve a place that does so much good, that has shown me such love? It’s also about accepting the invitation. I can’t possibly accept every invitation; who can? However, when an invitation speaks to my heart, literally causing it to beat fast, I know I’m called to say yes—to suit up, show up, and bring my best gifts.
From a very early age, I learned to entertain myself. I overheard my mother saying that I was “imaginative and resourceful.” I looked those words up and continued to live into them. I find our world and its people fascinating. Just about anything can inspire me—be it the light of dawn streaming through the stained-glass windows of our sanctuary on a Sunday morning as I am designing our altar; a personal testimony of answered prayers; David’s hand in mine on the Sundays we’re able to sit with each other. I love having a vision come to me, lining up all the logistics, and seeing it come to life.
The gift I wish to bestow on our congregation is just that: The belief that our dreams, our visions, can and do come true. Some might call it magic or miracles, and really, it’s belief and faith. I have more real-life evidence of this than I can measure, and I look forward to sharing it with you as we travel on.
